  1. No one is arguing with you about the transfer portal being supremely important. The disagreement is that you’re abandoning 5-star freshman completely and basing that on the randomness of the tournament, and not even long term data from the tournament because the portal hasn’t even been around that long. That is reactionary. Btw, Duke made the final 4 last year with freshman Paolo Banchero being their best player. Gonzaga made the national championship the year before that with freshman Jalen Suggs being their best, and there was no tournament the year before that. You’re getting caught up in the moment of this year. Coaches need to be more judicious, maybe there are some 5-stars you avoid, but you don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
  2. The importance of freshman has obviously waned, but that’s a dumb way to do the measurement. Brandon Miller, Gradey Dick, and Jarace Walker were all 5 star freshman who played major roles in their teams getting 1 seeds. To act like they don’t matter at all because of the randomness of the tournament is silly. The right freshman still have value and any coach with half a brain will still pursue them, it’s just that nobody is building their team around freshman anymore except for Duke and Kentucky.
  3. He stayed at ORU for much longer than I thought he would so he must like Mills a lot. I think it’s in his best interest to go to a bigger program though.
  4. That .388 doesn’t even tell the whole story imo. This dude shot 43% from three when he actually had another good player with him in Kevin Obanor. Obanor transferred to Tech right after their tourney run a few years ago and defenses got to tee off on just Abmas.
  5. Y’all gotta get over Chris Beard. If you’re serious, you’re being stupid and if you’re trolling, it’s not even funny.
  6. Yeah, he plays both sides of the ball. Was better on defense this past year. His offensive production was super pedestrian.
  7. The Fresno argument never made any sense, he took that team to the tourney and it’s the only time they’ve been there in the last 20 years. They’ve only been there 6 times in school history and one of those appearances got vacated.
  8. Yep. So much of this tournament is just about good and bad luck.
  9. Epps is awful, but Amik Robertson was a dawg. Really good college player. If I’m remembering correctly we showed some late interest in him out of high school, but ultimately didn’t pursue along with every other P5 program. Kid still made his way to the NFL from Louisiana Tech despite the 5’8 height.
  10. They always try to get cute with these rankings, it’s so stupid. There are not 4 better players in the state than Colin Simmons. Hell, you can make the argument there aren’t 4 better players in the country.
  11. I love how this team can win in different ways. Shot lights out in round 1 and made 13 threes. Only made a single 3-pt shot tonight and won with Disu being a bully inside. And to bounce back like that after that Penn State run. I’ve seen many Texas teams in the past collapse in moments like that. Kudos to Terry and those kids.
  12. FDU is literally the shortest team in the country and didn’t even win their conference tournament. This is the most hilarious upset ever.
  13. aggy with the worst performance of any team that played today. Couldn’t even make Penn State a little tired for us.
  14. I don’t know what Donovan’s NBA future is, but I do know that if/whenever it’s over he will be able to get any available college job he wants. He has no reason to jump at the first big offer now while he’s still an NBA coach. The offers aren’t going anywhere. He can get a Texas caliber job any year it’s available.
  15. I’m not justifying anything, I’m just not living in lala land. Thinking we’re gonna get Donovan to leave his NBA gig is stupid. And if we’re keeping it real, it’s probably easier to money whip coaches in lower revenue sports because not everyone pays big in those places. Football is the better comparison, because like Mens basketball, pretty much all of the big time programs pay out the ass. I think CDC will figure it out, and whoever is here next year will do well. I’m just not penciling in one of the 3 or 4 huge names that keep getting floated out there.
  16. Beard was a layup hire, he was a Texas alum stuck in Lubbock. The basketball coaches you named are not a comparable situation.
  17. And if your grandma had wheels she’d be a bike. Half of that list has already expressed no interest in the job. Did we not learn anything from the football search? These big names are far from a guarantee.
  18. UFC is the big league of MMA though, it’s not like that’s your starting money for MMA in general.
  19. That was the most entertaining part of this game. He was so awful, had more turnovers than points. That kid isn’t a tenth as good as he and his handlers acted like he was when he was here. Ended up being addition by subtraction for us.
