  1. I'm going to go yell at a cloud in Tex's honor. Then shake my fist in futile anger at the young rapscallions who keep walking on my lawn. And if I'm really feeling it, I'll stare myopically through my spectacles at my computer screen while muttering about new-fangled gadgets.

What fresh hell is this? I come to work today to discover that our organization is honoring "National Unicorn Day" and everyone is wearing horned tiaras and eating cotton candy, and everybody is entered in a raffle for a unicorn t-shirt, whether we want to be or not.

I should have called in sick.

Christ Almighty, where in the hell do you work?

Do refs and/or umps study film?  I mean at the pro or college level, major sports.  Seems like it would help them do their job better if they knew tendencies, stuff to watch for, whatever.

Yes. They watch their own games, and any other the head office deems necessary.

Why do BMX bike riders tilt the seat up so high?

So they can more easily pinch the seat between their thighs. Seat is not really used for sitting.

Fifteen minutes after arriving at work, I get a phone call. Her car has a flat. Its parked at the kids' school, school says its ok to leave where it is. She's going to Uber to work, can I "take care of it"?

I leave work, drive to the kids' school, park my car, walk to her car, open the hatch, trash blows out, diet coke bottles roll out, and there is a fuck ton of shit in the cargo area that I have to unload before I can get to the spare. List includes:

    • Two recycle bins full of recycling that has been in there  for a week (Oh, I'll take the recycling tomorrow during lunch).
    • Yoga mat
    • Briefcase so full of shit it won't close
    • Work out bag
    • Kids books and other misc kid shit that just piles up in the back seat, and she "cleans out" by throwing into the cargo area
    • Misc trash, junk mail, empty diet coke bottles, etc. (I wonder about the junk mail. Does she check the mail, then if its junk, throw it all the way into the cargo area? wtf? Same with empty diet coke bottles?

It took me longer to unload all that crap than it did to change the tire. Fuck.

    Update, one week later:

I go to pile some shit in the recycle bins, and no bins. They aren't in her car. I ask her "Where are the recycle bins?" Answer: "Oh, I got tired of them being in the car, so I took them out and put them in my office."

JFC, he should be impeached for that tie alone.

It’s not the grind of day-to-day, but in longform journalism, Vanity Fair has been killing it as well, very impressed with what they’ve done.

Throw a few chihuahuas at them, that'll do the trick.

I'd prefer more hawks and fewer chiuauas, but maybe that's just me.

    #TeamHawk trending yet?

But in a way, as a citizen, I think we owe it to each other to get off the couch and think about what unites us. I think about the people who supported Trump, and continue to support Trump.

A lotta them come from families with a proud history of military service. And that's a wonderful thing. What did their fathers and grandfathers fight and die for? Not for immigration policy. Not for a tax policy. Not for Supreme Court justice. They fought and died for a set of ideas. The rule of law. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. The truth.

That's what they fought and died for. And at some point, we have to focus on that and make sure that whoever's leading us embodies those and we judge that leader by their tether to those values. Then we'll go back to fighting like cats and dogs about all the things we normally fight about.

    For you Tahoe:

There is the rule of law. There is integrity. Those things matter before any fights about policies. And people who tell themselves, "Well, yes, Donald Trump is unethical but I'm getting the right Supreme Court justice or the right regulatory rollback," are kidding themselves because if we lose that tether to the truth, if that stops being the norm at the heart of our public life, what are we?

Where are we as a country? So I worry sometimes people think I'm talking about politics. Not in the way we normally talk about in this country. But I hope in the most important way. Values matter. This president does not reflect the values of this country.

  9. I don't play enough, or give a shit enough, to be very good. However, the one thing I can do is hit the ball a very very long way off a tee. One time I sliced the tee shot into the stands of a soccer field that was probably 200 yards to the right of the green. No one was hit, luckily.

Saw one Beto sign and one Cruz sign in my hood. My takeaway: Its a toss up. Could go either way.

    Update:

Two Beto signs, one Cruz sign. Going to be a massacre.

True that. Arky hate used to be stronger than hate for ousucks back in those days.

It really was. And the OU hate for Nebraska was far stronger than their hate of UT.
