Absolutely a great take. The guy had to clear out 4 years of abject Mack-rot, which he largely did. He also recruited way above his head. Guys who have been/will be drafted. He's also a good guy. I hope he has success in the future.

I thought that too for his tenure here but a couple of things he did going out the door make me pause.

First, the whole the cake is baked bullshit.  No, Charlie, the cake was a shit sandwich and any fool could see that.  He was just setting it up so if Tom won Charlie gets the credit but if he lost it was all Tom's fault.  It just came across as very petty on his part.

Second, the whole structuring of the USF contract to take a below market rate while we subsidize it but that magically kicks up to market rate when our subsidy ends.  Yeah, yeah, we're the Joneses and all that crap but that doesn't mean we should just get fucked over because we can afford it .  And before, anyone points it out, yes it was perfectly legal, but certainly not within the spirit of his buyout (and we definitely need better lawyers next time we negotiate something like that if we're leaving loopholes like that in the contract).

I know some of the complaints here about Mack, and many of them are justified. I personally would have rather kept Mack for another 3 years than have gone through the Charlie Strong era. I do believe Charlie would have done better with a real A.D. instead of that ass clown Patterson, but still.

In hindsight I agree with you, but I can't imagine how bad Mack's classes would have looked like those last 3 years if we had kept him. He was losing credibility with the HS coaches and kids.

And if the stories of Mack scuttling Saban to UT are true, then I don't even know what to say to that thin-skinned bastard.

He'd be a good quality control coach, maybe a recruiting coordinator.

I assume quality control is organization speak for attention to detail and is therefore the exact last place you'd want Strong. But recruiting coordinator?  Now you're talking.

I think it would be hilarious if Mack ends up back at NC and Strong at Louisville.  It would be like the final episode of Newhart, [spoiler alert] it was all just a dream.

Did she get half of Brad Pitt’s money?

Not half, but a nice chunk.  Unfortunately she wants a prenup and still expects you to pay for everything.  You just know she's gonna bring up "Brad's facilities were much nicer.  I wish we had something nice like Brad had so we could entertain guests."  Its gonna drive you crazy.

  5. Say you're married to a hot woman.  Oh sure, things aren't perfect, at least once a year she does one stupid thing that really annoys you and it seems to be the same thing every year, year after year.  But all things considered, you're happy with her and she seems happy with you.

Then Brad Pitt walks in your house, winks at her and tells her to pack her things.  She's gone just like that without even looking back.  15 years later Brad dumps her.  20 years later she shows up on your doorstep, 50 pounds heavier and looking like she's been aging in dog years, and tells you she always loved you and made a huge mistake.

    Would you take her back?

This probably dates back to the Big 8 days.  Our student section used to throw oranges on the field after the first score, and apparently during one of our games with CU, Ralphie got beaned with an orange.  He apparently went wild, started stampeding around old Clyde Williams Field, and Colorado never brought him on the road again.

Not to be a dick, but exactly when was ISU in contention for the Big 8's orange bowl bid such that students were throwing oranges on the field?  Or was this some obscure Ames tradition I'm unaware of?

We had a safety who used to do that regularly, usually to a receiver away from the ball.  He would get big hit awards, and coaches would give him a little grief for some of the hits, but for the most part it was a different era and those hits weren't generally penalized.

Last I checked he's serving his 2nd stint in prison, probably won't be out for a while.

He played baseball here, once happened to see him fight Shane Dronnett at a restaurant on lake

If it's the same guy I'm thinking of (westlake?) I thought he was running buddies with Dronett, but he certainly would not have been afraid to do it.  I saw him destroy a guy that outweighed him by at least 100 pounds.

  8. I know shit about sailing but I read about people island hopping around the Caribbean and it sounds awesome.  I'm planning on learning as soon as I retire and move out of the God forsaken hellhole called the upper midwest.

Why the hell would Riley leave OU? At college, especially at a program like that, you are the king. You recruit your own players. You have full control and can bench whomever with no real consequences. He can coach for damn near 20 years like Stoops if he wants. You go to Cleveland or really any NFL team and have a couple of down years, you will soon be looking for a new job. Lincoln is going nowhere.

Fair point, but I can definitely see how the constant grind of recruiting can wear a coach out.  If I had to guess, I bet NFL coaches work less hours and have more breaks than college coaches.  Yes, NFL has a longer season but recruiting had turned into a year round full time thing.

You think losing to USC, the most likely Pac-12 Champs, in a close game is worse than losing to Maryland? The timing of the loss won’t have shit to do with it. ND would still be ranked ahead of us. We need them to have 2 losses at this point unless the SEC or Michigan/tOSU craps out on their 2nd team.

I’m in the “happy to be here” camp. Don’t see it happening for us this year, which is fine. It’s fun to enjoy the ride again. In 1 or 2 years, we’ll learn how to finish it off.

I think ND losing to a USC team we pounded gives us the edge. I also think Michigan pounding Maryland gives them the edge.  OSU has that over us too but i think the proctology exam Purdue put on them overcomes it.

Hell,  we're all just guessing here and at the end of the day if we're dealing with 1 loss blue bloods of ND/Tex/Mich/OSU fighting for a spot nobody knows how the committee will rationalize it.

  11. I'm seeing it in the following order (obviously not all are gonna happen)

    1.Undefeated Bama, clemson, ND

    2. 1 loss SEC champ

    3. 1 loss Michigan as big 10 champ

    4. 1 loss Bama non sec champ

    5.  1 loss big 12 (Texas or ou)

    6.  1 loss ND (loss will be too late in year)

    7.  1 loss OSU as big 10 champ (ass whipping tonight hurts badly)
