Back in those days you could call in and ask Mackovic when he was going to get a real defense? and get hung up on by the host while an upset coach ranted. Also, you could call Mack Brown and ask if he was the Mackovic of special teams and have him act confused. I liked those radio call in shows. One time I called in from DC during an internship and a friend told me he recognized my voice but they hung up on me because I was shit faced after a win against OU in 1991 I think. I can't remember calling in. Mack Brown put an end to them saying he did not want to talk to people he did not respect.

I had lunch with mcwilliams every tuesday.  anybody could have, but i happened to work in the student union and wasn't all that keen on studying.   there was practically nobody there - maybe 20 people max. and it was open to the press, public, anybody that wanted to come.  times have changed.

  2. i would like for any surly attorneys to chime in on the scenario of a defense attorney having evidence and not disclosing it.  thats one thing.  but i would also like their opinions on how they heard about it.  what would make a judge get both attorney teams in a car and traipse over to an office where they find a gun in a safe?  it could be any old gun.  he has no proof that it's the murder weapon so for him to even give credence to the ada's allegation is suspicious.

    yup. with 1 days notice.

dont know what to say about this poor lady.  ive been to three of her places there and they were all top notch, maybe the best restaurants in town for what they were.  she might be the best pastry chef in the state.  but damn if there isnt something odd and suspicious about her not being able to keep a restaurant open.

I know this won't happen, but I'd like to think that Strickland broke into the office, and replaced the gun in the safe so that when ballistics tests come back, it will show that the gun in the safe was not the murder weapon.  I think Strickland hates the douchie DA more than Perry.

that would be so damn nice.  nobody knew about the gun in the safe but those three.  still unexplained how the ada found out.

stricklands nails were black from trying to break into perry's house, but he had it chained.  then later someone breaks into perry's office.  well, technically doesnt seem like a breakin, nobody noticed anyway, and whoever did it had the combination, so again not much of a breakin.

this thread is as good as any to put this...

we are on the way to Vegas/California from Denver and today drove west across CO and Utah on i70 with my driving stint starting after lunch in Grand Junction. driving across CO was a piece of cake, our first time on the western slope, very scenic, but...

HOLY SHIT i was COMPLETELY unprepared for the Utah leg of the drive.😲

i mean...just holy holy holy shit. Utah has officially taken my breath away. literally, and multiple times. for the first time EVER in my entire life i had an anxiety/vertigo/panic attack, a stretch of what felt like 80 miles or so, starting just west of Green River...i came thisclose to having to pull over. speed limit is 80(!) and i slowed down at one point to <60. an absolutely surreal landscape on all sides as far as the eye could see...at one point it felt like we were  surrounded by deep giant canyons on all sides and i swear to god i was fighting not to drive right off the side!!

i had to focus on my breathing and attach my eyes to the trailer hitch of the vehicle in front of us and just could not even glance offroad...but my eyes felt like they were being pulled to the horizon! i felt like i was literally going to just yank the wheel off the interstate, and that feeling in turn caused near panic...this was that long stretch where there is nothing...like all the signs say 'seriously - there is nothing for the next 100 miles'.

nothing but my god the landscape. 😲

i mean seriously, i have driven over huge bridges, the Makinac and Golden Gate, been through RMNP countless times as both driver and rider, to the top of Mt. Evans, Sandia Peak, have ridden in a car AND a bike down Haleakala...i have NEVER felt like i felt today! incredible. 😳

i have never seen such jaw-dropping scenery...and we just barely drove by/skirted the NPs! i love the Rocky Mountains and Colorado is so beautiful...but Utah blew it away today. i have seen so many pictures, i follow several National Park accounts...but nothing prepared me for what i saw today. just wow wow wow.

i cannot wait to actually visit some of the parks. i see you, Utah! 👀

sounds great.  good for you for doing it and gaining some memories and experience.  i did utah three years in a row, but am itching to get back.  whats ironic, and not to get too cloakroomy, but what the rest of the country loves so much about utah is what utahans hate the most - that the majority of the state is public lands.  they're craving development and the money that comes with it, and we go there to get away from all that.

    the road beckons.

Love me some Acme.  But my family has been a Felix's family for 70 years.  And yeah, sit at the bar.  Chat up your shucker.  Tip cash up front, and eat what he serves you.  Those days are good days.

    ive always preferred felix's myself.

I am gonna x post this to the bivalve thread. I’m most of a bottle of wine and a kitchen cocktail in and don’t care about the length of this post, because this meal fucks.

Yesterday I grilled shrimp and with my heads and shells I made shrimp stock. You can add all sorts of aromatics, but I just boiled the heads and shells and added a carrot, some salt, a few stalks of parsley. That’s all prep for today, which is mussels day.

Soften up a shallot in some olive oil in a big pot. Then add a bunch of garlic. I used, I don’t know— ten or 11 cloves? The point is that you’re never gonna cook this and say “that was too much garlic.” Measure garlic with your heart.

When all that’s soft but not brown, add like a tablespoon of tomato paste and cook that down a bit. Don’t burn the garlic. Then add a big splash of shrimp stock— make sure it’s the darker stuff at the bottom. And then equal parts white wine. And then like a pound, pound and a half of mussels and a halved lemon. Let that shit cook and steam over medium or medium-low. Add a generous handful of fresh parsley at the end.

And you should be making spaghetti. And the spaghetti needs to be cooked in about half shrimp stock and half salted water.  And then when it’s done, you put the spaghetti in a bowl, top with a ton of mussels, and a ladle of that garlicky wine cooking liquid.

And then also, you need like two baguettes for a family. The mussels are great but the main event is mopping up that garlic-wine-shrimp broth liquid with a baguette. Italians don’t mix bread and pasta but you’re not in Italy and this is good as fuck, who cares what they say.

You can make all this without the shrimp stock but you’re not really getting the full meal that fucks if you do.

thats one way to go, and sounds delicious, but i prefer a little cream in my mussels, especially when dipping bread in the leftover broth.

  7. it is a pretty good show.  lots of characters that are loose threads and need to all come together in the end - the rich oil lady/piano teacher and her cuckhold attorney (they may be innocent), the dickhead dad, the councilman, the rough, drunk-looking cop that seems to always be up to no good, the black gangster (he may be innocent), etc.

i still dont get the story with della and her lovers and why they are telling it.  i also am unclear on the nature of the tension around where drake is staying.  they seem to be insulting him around the domino table.  is it because he's not working or paying rent?  arent they calling him an uncle tom too, or did i just imagine that?

interesting that the last episode ended with shea wigham being asked about his relationship with perry.  hopefully he comes clean to perry with what he was approached to do.

So, thinking about this a little bit more.

This contract killing of McCutcheon wasn't solely to take him out, but part of a larger plot to, I'm assuming, ruin the whole McCutcheon family.  Thus, the phone number getting stuffed into the evidence box to lead the defense team to the discovery of the gal in the mental facility who happened to be married to an important city councilman.  No idea how that relates to old man McCutcheon's oil business but we're not supposed to know yet.

So, the bad guy has to be the rich lady Della dined with during the piano lesson, right?  She profits if McCutcheon goes down, doesn't she?  Isn't she an oil baroness?

Can't imagine why else she'd be getting so much screen time.

And I'm still puzzled by what's going on with Detective Holcombe.  What were those ships importing?  Heroin?  Foreign oil?  Rubber Dog Shit from Hong Kong?

there also has to be an arc to the ruthless dickhead grocer.  why would they spend time on that story if it didnt tie into something?  I hadnt thought about the rich lady having a part in this.  i've thought all along it was the father.  he was fighting with his son quite a bit, plus he seems to be threatened by perry investigating.

And yeah, Ms Street's hiding a nice, firm looking bod under those dresses.

i always thought she was hot, but seeing her nude was a nice surprise.  i do wish they wouldnt spend so much time on her love story though.  it makes me wonder if they arent intentionally trying to get us interested because they plan a spinoff.  the show is called perry mason.

i saw it, but don't remember much dramatic happening but it's possible i fell asleep.  recap for me please.  i remember some stuff about leon in africa, coming back and finding the hood in disarray, and pretty much everyone's storyline sinking like a rock.  very depressing season so far.  so much excess and living high on the hog up and now everyone is barely holding on.

  11. i was recently turned on to a cheap, easy weeknight meal - one package of shrimp ramen, and 1 lb of shrimp.  it's actually pretty damn good, light, healthy, simple, quick, and affordable.

There has to be a wake of destruction behind her back home. holy moly she's nuts.

absolutely the craziest person ive ever seen on the show.  the expressions on her face say it before she even opens her mouth, and then there's usually some guttural shriek or scream or manly bass-toned groan.  i would be sleeping on the beach if i were on her tribe.  cant vote her out quick enough.  she must realize she doesnt speak well because she was the quietest person at tribal. hardly said a word even when jeff addressed her.

  13. glad to see they're changing it up.  the challenges seemed new, the idols seemed new, etc. i'd like to see the historical data for how many people that have gone off to a different island and come back and lied.  how many tell the truth, how many lie?  what a weird tribal that smacked of rookiedom.  playing your shot in the dark right off the bat (which turned out to be stupid)?  playing your idol right off the bat (which turned out to be smart)?

In retirement, my pops has started camping a hell of a lot more often albeit in his pull behind camper. A few months ago when I was with him I noticed the shitty excuse for a camp hatchet he had, so I’m going to get him a new one for Christmas. It will get a lot of use, so I’m not looking for something fancy, just quality. I have a Prandi that I really like, so I’m thinking either a Prandi or Ned Foss. Any thoughts between the two or other recs around that $50 price point?

http:// NedFoss 15" Hatchet, Chopping Axes and Hatchets for Wood Splitting and Kindling, Forged Carbon Steel Bushcraft Axe Head Beech Wood Handle, Retro Leather Sheath https://a.co/d/28NxF5v

you might look at condor and estwing as well.  in that price range, well-made and highly-rated.
