My biggest concern is not having a running back that can make people miss in the backfield every carry because I still feel like there will be people in the backfield every carry. Prove me wrong oline, please.

i'm expecting the two biggest areas of improvement on this team to be qb and ol.  there is no excuse for this ol to not be able to pass protect and open holes for rb's.

He had the THH listed for a bit and wasn't getting any takers.  He needed quick cash and he sold the 2 bottles I traded him the next day.  win/win for both of us.

you'd have to give me a case of russells 13 for those two bottles.  even then i might have buyers remorse.

had the rr13 a whole 24 hours.  traded it and a blanton's gold for a 2020 THH today.

what kind of idoit would agree to that?

Been kicking around taking the wife to New Mexico for a trip. Watching Oppenheimer greatly encouraged that idea. Would probably shoot for the ABQ/Santa Fe/etc. area. Would probably spend 3 days or so there. Would probably drive down through Colorado instead of through KS/OK/Texas Panhandle. Anything a person would want to see or eat for sure. Would probably be going in mid-October.

where do you live again?  hatch season starts in about a week.  always fun to go by there when they've got fresh and roasted peppers all over the roadside stands, but that sounds too far south for you.   bandelier and chaco are badass, but if you only have 3 days, i'd just do albuquerque one day, and santa fe two.

    Initial thoughts:

    - Raylen’s daughter is annoying AF. Mumbles her way through every line. Maybe she needs subtitles.

    - I’m a big Victor Williams fan. He’s classically trained actor, and he was great on King of Queens.

    - Of course Boyd Holbrook is terrific. Kills in everything.

    - Good to have Raylen back.

i always wanted that dude from snowfall, the uncle, do to more.  dude was a badass in that show, as a character but also as an actor.

We must be. I used to live downtown in the late 1990s. I wasn't at Boudros or Biga all that much, but I spent a LOT of time at Zinc and the Havana Hotel. The Havana is still a great, dark spot.

Swig was another one of my go-tos even though it was right in the heart of the riverwalk. I don't know if it's even there anymore but it was fun to sit on their patio and watch the overflow of drunk young girls from Howl at the Moon. I was also a big fan of the Esquire both pre-renovation when it was a scary locals joint where they used to frisk you when you walked in the door and now post-renovation, especially downstairs.

i never could get into swig, as much as i like martinis, it was too commercial for me. i probably spent more money in the hagen daaz store that was pretty close to there, and shared the same riverwalk view.

esquire is a state treasure.  i dig all the hotels down there.  la mansion is cool, and there used to be a great high-end oyster bar in the bottom of one of the hotels, but i cant remember the name of it.  ive posted before about some great meals at oro, at the bottom of the emily morgan.  great times at the menger bar, and good martinis to be had at the bar at st anthony, though i only went there during jazz is alive.

Acenar next to the Hotel Valencia is my go to for Mexican food on the Riverwalk. I think their food is much better than Casa Rio and it's on a prettier, more secluded, less trafficked part of the riverwalk. It's a better vibe overall plus random drunks walking up and down the Riverwalk won't be bumping into your chair. You can also go upstairs to the V-bar in Hotel Valencia which used to be cool -- although I admittedly haven't been there in a few years.

we must be long lost brothers.  acenar and v bar were my go to's whenever i was on the riverwalk.  i also liked zinc, boudro's, biga, and in a quieter stretch of the riverwalk havana inn for martini's.

Only weak point is the daughter. She's ditractingly wooden and cliche.

i would think so too, if i didnt know it was raylan's real daughter.  i kinda think that adds something to it. she gets a pass in my book.

if you have children or want to leave behind an estate, buying in southern utah or the 4 corners should be carefully considered around the water situation in any given location

southwestern utah especially simply does not have the water resources to sustain current growth rates

kanab is extremely well placed for exploration of the secret places but as with other options, long-term health care is 5 hours away in vegas or gslc

good point about us aging and needing more ready access to healthcare as we age.  those places i mentioned are far from a decent hospital.   i almost mentioned water in my comments about santa fe.  not sure it's any more sustainable there than southern utah.  shitloads of subdivisions and homes built in the last few decades.

    • we moved to austin the exact same time, 1982.  i'm too thinking of moving one day soon.  santa fe is on the list but i dont think it would make the top 5.   cost of living for one.  the tri-culture factor is a plus to me, not a downside.  the cold also is more of a pro than a con.   my concern for you would be that you're not into southwestern art of culture.  santa fe is the hub of that.  if you dont like paintings of desert landscapes, you're not going to like living in the desert, nor the view from your living room for that matter.  if you dont like clay pots, you're not going to like the clay your house is built on.  i do believe new mexico is the land of enchantment.  i feel that way way every time i go there.  its a special place, and has a special feeling when you get out of your car.  i've been to santa fe ten times or more, and love it, but as a residence i feel it's  30 years too late.  been done already.  would you consider a smaller town, something like springdale, kanab, or st george, utah?

Anyone getting out to places cooler than this shit show in Texas to hike this summer?  I'm heading to New Mexico next weekend.  Hoping to get out somewhere in August also.

i was in southern utah towards the end of july two years in a row and the temps were higher there than they were in austin.

In all my west Texas trips, I’d offer the following advice - Marathon, Balmorhea, Alpine, Fort Davis, and Terlingua (of course Big Bend, BBRSP, Davis Mountains) are where you should spend your time.

My one visit to Marfa left the following impression - an enigma wrapped in pretentious wannabe East Coast cock swabs.  I could be wrong but that was the vibe…

it felt special once.  i'm sure it is to some people still.  the courthouse is cool, the marfa lights are still a mystery a hundred years running, the paesano is worthy, but all those were there when the town was founded.  nothing new has improved the place.  maybe planet marfa, but thats all that comes to mind.  the st george is out of place.  would fit in better in downtown austin or nyc.

Just got back from Marfa and wow, what a difference a year makes. Some restaurants have closed down, some coffee shops have closed down, and Convenience West gave me some of the worst pork ribs I've ever had. My airbnb host called me on my drive into town and freaked me out into thinking someone was trying to impersonate a member of my party. I cut my trip a few days early.

But on the positive side, I took a different route to get there and went from the northern part of Jeff Davis County through Balmorhea. Beautiful area! It will be my focus the next time I make a trip out to West Texas.

great drive from balmorhea to ft davis.  i agree with your take on marfa.  last time i was there did not get a warm feeling.  seems like its lost its way.

Saw this in 1988 and was really my first exposure to him  Plus, I was very, very intrigued by Perla Batalla.  Good lord.

that was the same tour he played another date in austin, i believe at the backyard, but it could have been where the armadillo christmas bazaar used to be.  i was there, though ive killed a few brain cells since.
