  1. All accounts returned between 12 and 15% - which is double our target, so it was a great year. We are boring investors - highly diversified and balanced. Our target is a 6-8% yearly return, based on our risk level. Wife retired this year at 45 and I’m on target to be done at 54.

  2. First off, it’s 76 fucking degrees on Christmas Day. This is a fucking travesty.

Second, I keep seeing a push online suggesting the dem ticket should be Ossoff/AOC and my immediate response to that is just fucking no (and I like them both).

Only middle age white, Christian men. This stupid country won’t vote for anything else right now.
  3. Went to my wife's appointment with the oncologist yesterday. It's official: she's cancer free and there's nothing left to do. No chemo, no radiation, no hormone blockers. We are done with this shit.
I realize that what she (and I, to a much lesser extent) went through pales in comparison to what many of you are dealing with, so please don't think I'm getting chesty. I'm just thankful. I want our normal, stress-free lives back.

Having gone through the same thing with my wife - it’s a damn good thing to hear she’s made it to the other side. [emoji122][emoji122]
  4. Just a reminder that A&M Women are playing for a volleyball National Championship on ABC at 2:30PM today.
Not sure when the last time was that any of their sports programs ever played for a National Championship?
"The championship match, between Texas A&M and Kentucky, will air on ABC at 2:30 PM PT (3:30 PM ET)."

    Women’s Tennis won a natty in 2024.
  5. I read through a lot of these and think the way it is framed is conflating the message.  Think about your current situation and then reverse it based on your numbers.  Would you do that?
If you work in office for 240K a year, would you give up half to work from home or if you work from home for 120K a year would you change and go in the office for double?
Right now I am in the office making a good salary and would not take the cut because I have kids in school, but reduce those expenses and I might delay retirement to work from home for half my salary.

Right now - I’m WFH. My wife just retired, so she can be home with the kid for his schooling. I’d go back to the office for double my salary. We would hit my retirement goal that much faster.
  6. It really does depend on the job. The more isolated I am and the fewer people that can reach me, the better. I work off of an issues database (ticket system for lack of a better term). I rarely need to talk to the design team or the engineer team - not to mention a lot of the design team is over seas and only reachable by email or after hours (for me) teams message.

Being in office is a massive disadvantage and distraction. I went in once to update my laptop to the lastest windows. I watched at least three different folks come into our area and have 30 minute conversations - mostly about anything other than work.

  7. I hate Novrosky’s… but I AM in the minority there.

i did forget Tia Juanita’s. I like Tias.

Crockett Street was great in the early 2000’s when we would come to town for the SETX wake boarding tournament. Good times.
  8. I’d take the doubled salary in an instant. I can do my job anywhere and if they wanted it done in an office - fine. I’ve hung Do Not Disturb signs on my cube back when I worked in an office. That plus head phones and people generally left me alone. And extra $100k saved and invested is $1.3M to $1.5M over 10 years. If you are able - you take the office job and have a legit opportunity to FIRE.

  9. What’s the best pellet grill under $1k these days? I’m on the verge of buying the Weber searwood 600 but open to thoughts from the team.

I have the big Searwood and I’m really happy with it. Just like with all Weber products - it’s solid. Works great. The accorded are nice. It heats up quick for non-smoking days.
  10. Wait list? Like, for a specific section or tier of seating/hospitality?

Through F1 Exprience - Paddock Passes - Legends Level. Basically gives you one full day in the actual paddock area (where the teams are located). The other two days are in the paddock hospitality. Some tracks have this available through the F1 Experience web site.
  11. Great pics.  If I ever go to another F1 race, it will be in the Paddock Club.  I don't want to go sit in the grandstands and deal with the crush of people anymore.  And when cars are not on track, it's boring AF.

I’m on the wait list for the US GP in Austin. I’m still deciding if I want to spend that kind of money. I think it’s worth it once.
  12. So I have an informal survey question for anyone who has a high dollar financial advisor. Did your advisor move you strongly into gold, silver and/or commodities before the beginning of 2025.
We are having a debate about how some people seemed to know this year’s performance was coming, while most did not.

    Nope. We did not.
