1. Apparently Clark County (Las Vegas) doesn’t have a contract with F1. A commissioner out there is asking questions and is not happy with the race.

“It turns out that we never signed a contract — that was all with the LVCVA,” Segerblom said Tuesday in a phone conversation with the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “So everybody keeps saying that we’ve got three years. We never committed to three years, to my knowledge.”

What size is the watch?
3. Based on scenario 1 - poor directions were given. Clean this up vs clean this up in 4 minutes and the timer starts now.

Scenario 2 - what action was not being done? He said they were doing the task - just really slow.

I’m going off what was originally posted - asked 8 year olds to clean up. They were cleaning up but taking forever.

4. At that age it shouldn’t be a “tell them 5 times before they get it done” type of situation imo. And I think the biggest issue here is if wifey had engaged in the scenario, the two parental voices would have helped resolve/encourage a better resolution.

I get the frustration.

It doesn’t say he told them 5 times. It says they were taking forever - which I read as the task is being completed. Also - directions were given, task was being done - why does wife need to be involved at all?
5. Last night before bed my 8 year old twins had a fucking mess in the living room.  Told them to clean it up before we watch some TV.
They dragged ass and it took forever.  Their eyes don't seem to want to work when it's time to clean up.  This took 10 mins when it should've taken 2.  All the while my wife is sitting on the couch next to me and playing around on her phone.
Finally I have enough and say fuck it I'll do it myself and anything I find that's still out is going in the trash can.  They speed up.  Wife is still oblivious.
When it's finally done, my daughter asks me for a snack and I say no. It took them too long to clean up l.  She gets mad.
My wife asks if I'm mad at her and I told her that I was glad to see that she could focus on something else besides her phone.  I told her that I could've used some help and she was nowhere to be found.
She gets mad and walks off.  Daughters mad, wifes mad, the boy is sound asleep and I went for a walk at 830 last night.
No apologies this AM.
Fuckers.

You got mad that your 8 year olds were doing what you asked them to do, but not at the rate you wanted it done? Did you tell them you wanted it done in 2 minutes? This one might be on you.

6. Depends on the kid. My son (7th grade) plays rec league soccer and I coach. It’s a hobby for him. If he’s legit tired, I’ll let him stay home. Why risk injury or turn the kid against the game over a practice here or there. I also have kids that miss one practice every week due to another sport or school activity. It happens.

7. So until this morning I was clueless about He Gets Us, and actually thought the Super Bowl foot-washing ad was pretty good without context. Without getting too religious, the story of Jesus (not the Jesus portrayed by the hard right) washing his disciples’ feet is an ancient tale of selfless love, humility, and service.
Now knowing that it’s funded by those Hobby Lobby fucksticks, I totally get troph’s ire on the Super Bowl commercial thread. What’s the play there? A gay man sees a commercial with a priest washing a gay man’s foot and asks, “Wait, Jesus loves the gays?”, then goes on the He Gets Us website, stumbles on some right-wing fundamentalist Christian theology, and then suddenly decides to be not gay?

Look closer at the commercial - every oppressor is the one doing the Jesus like behavior. It was terrible from the get go.

8. Being part of a wakeboard group was a saving grace when it came to people knowing inboards. Only met a few over the years (when I rode a lot) that had no clue what they were doing.

We watched a guy take his brand new XStar (when the pickle forks first came around) out to hit the Trinity. He didn’t ask anyone how to get to the river. Hauled ass away from the ramp and parked his boat on a massive underwater tree.

9. New nautique 25 is 440k.

Fucking insane.

That’s terrible. When I helped start the wakeboarding group in Houston back in 2001 - we were on mostly used Ski boats with sacks and a tower. The nicest boat was a 2004 (I think) SANTE that my buddy got a deal on. Most were $30k Malibu’s or Master Crafts.

I couldn’t imagine paying that for a boat. It would make being on the river more fun, as I would be terrified of hitting a tree and sinking it.
10. Out here on the west side of Houston - there is a n area of 99 right North of 90 that you can see far enough for cops and cars. It’s good up to 120 or so and then the road is a little wavy.

Anyone rent an exotic for a weekend? I have absolutely no reason to buy one and don’t want to deal with the upkeep. I would, however, like to drive a Ferrari for a weekend.

11. He's right though that the War Powers Resolution is a gigantic punt by Congress so they can let the President wage war without having to declare an unpopular war.
There's a tension, probably deliberate, between Congress' power to declare war and the President's CINC power to order troops into places and into action.  Checks and balances and shit, but congressional punt.

Yes, it was.
12. My wife and I own our company and make a good living but we're too small to get "good" or cheap insurance rates.  There are millions like us that pay a lot out of pocket just for bloodwork and shit that every American should have free access to.

My wife co-owns a business and we use my insurance. It would cost us more to go through her business. Insanity.
