  1. Fuck I can see myself getting in deep on this.  Especially since my wife doesn't like a ton of Christmas decorations other than basic white lights and maybe one inflatable thing for the kids.  Saturday I picked up a 5' tall crouched over werewolf thing, two more skeletons and a door knocker thing that talks.  I also ordered a strobe light that will be here today so that I don't have to have the porch lights on.  Now it looks like I'm stopping by Spirit of Halloween on my way home for more maybe.  Today after work, lil JSB will be helping me finish up decorating and doing the golf cart as well.  After we're done, I'll post some pics or a video.  It's a little hard to justify because we really don't get a ton of kids (they mostly stay on the other side of the neighborhood where there are more houses) but it is fun.  This morning I was on the phone with my wife as she was pulling out of the drive way, and she screamed because she had forgotten about the werewolf on the porch

  2. Didn't have time to do much shopping, but had to run to HD at lunch to get something, and noticed all their stuff was on sale for 1/2 off.  Will head back later today/tonight to figure out what I should get.  Some of their animatronic stuff looked pretty good, but I have no idea if it was just the floor sample stuff on sale or what.

  3. Bought a 1992 Honda Accord from my uncle at 16 that I learned on. First lesson was during rush hour Houston traffic. Got flustered and stalled out probably 10 times in a row at a light before my uncle taught me how to pop the clutch.

  4. Yeah Ldogg went all out with coffins and iirc some kind of haunted buggy, etc.
I have been buying the shit out of stuff the past couple of years. We are up to 4 lifesize animatronics, all of the Home Depot variety. We have the witch with the crystal ball, a reaper, the Angel of Death, and the ridiculous 6 ft werewolf on all fours. They may last 5 years. I don't think they're junky but I wouldn't call them high quality, either. If you don't need them to be animated and want to put a little effort into it, I'd make them yourself. Guy in my hood has done that - has a Michael Myers, a Chucky, Freddy Kruger, etc and they look pretty good.
Once I get my fog machine installed in a few days I was going to do a video or some pictures. I'll post it.
As for discounts after Halloween - most certainly not. You might get lucky if you can find floor models. But those big box stores just keep the inventory until the next year. I've found smaller stuff at CVS for example on sale, but never the good stuff.

Good to know. I was leaning the HD route if for no other reason than I can see what I’m getting in person before I buy it, and don’t have to bother with return shipping
  5. Trivial because it only really delays me one light cycle but still makes me ragey.  Four way intersection, and my lane is turning left onto a three lane road.  We have yellow flashing arrows, and the traffic coming from the opposite direction is turning right onto the same three lane road.  I always seem to get stuck behind the asshats that will sit there stopped rather than turning left into the far left lane, ceding the right of way to the traffic coming from the other direction.  There are three fucking lanes people!  If everyone just turns into the nearest lane as they are supposed to, both directions can turn at the same time and head southbound without an issue.  What the hell is wrong with you people?

That said, double fuck you to people that cross three lanes while turning

  6. So with my kids getting to the age they really like Halloween, I think I want to take the decorations to the next level. I know there were a few shagsters that went all out, but not sure they made the jump. Where should I be looking for life size quality stuff that will last me for 5-10 years? Is there a big discount on stuff right after Halloween that I could buy and store for next year?

  7. A few days ago I mentioned getting fitted for clubs. I know Champions is good but they are twice as expensive as Golftec, are they really that much better? Also according to their website, PGA Superstore offers free club fitting, how can they do this??

I started pricing this out a month ago or so in preparation for getting fitted for new irons and maybe a driver this winter. The PGA superstore on Preston in Plano is “free” to use their trackman, but if you want a real fitting, it is $250 for a three hour session that goes through your full bag, including golf balls. You can break it up into different days if needed. The guy said they may be able to get you a better deal on clubs during the fitting, but it isn’t carte blanche discount if you buy the clubs from them.

  8. Completely struck out finding a light bar mount for my 2017 platinum with adaptive cruise, so decided to just drill into the bumper and if I ever need to go back to stock, just pop in some chromed bolts for that old school look. Turned out pretty good I think. 30” straight dual row LED.

  9. Who knew so many degenerates from Seguin would find their way to Surly.  Seguin was a great place to grow up, and still has the best breakfast tacos I've ever had in my life.  They've got a ton of strong places, but none will top the now closed Taqueria Gonzalez that was over near Guadalupe St. south of Kingsbury.  Can't tell you how much I would pay for just one more order of 1 Bacon, egg and cheese, 1 Chorizo egg and cheese,  a cup of menudo, and a lemonade from that place

  10. Rent the Porsche.
Now I know you said that you're going to Carmel, but....
At Rennsport Reunion, we ate at the Monterey Fish House. For all three nights. Place was spectacular, in a down to earth way. You need reservations. You need to get the oak grilled oysters. Everything is good.
Sitting on the roof of the Porsche hospitality building at rennsport, the guy next to me was in a really good mood - he is getting one of the new 935 Moby Dicks.
I'd be in a good mood, too.

Good to know. I’ve got the hotel/flight/and soon to be car reserved. Next up is reservations.
  11. I met one of my vendors for lunch today in the Colony, and decided to check out the new CI store there next to Hard Eights since I was right there.  I only had about 15 minutes to check it out, but damn, that is a great place.  Big selection, good prices, indoor lounge and bar and a patio. Once the temp drops just a bit more, I plan on cutting out of the office one afternoon to go sit on their patio and have a smoke with the smell of BBQ wafting through the air.  I recommend any of you guys in Dallas check it out.

I know there was another Havana Lounge or something similar that was close to opening (signage up at least) right there as well.  Not sure why they called it off, but I imagine they are kicking themselves.  CI was packed on a Wednesday at 1pm.  Maybe they called it off because they got word that CI was building a shop...

  12. I know this doesn't really fall into this thread topic, but it also doesn't fit into the 'doesn't warrant' thread, so I thought I would get the best response here.

I'm taking a vacation in November to Carmel, CA with my wife and want to rent a nice convertible.  Before kids, I had a 2002 BMW M Roadster that I loved (still kicking myself for selling that), and since kids won't be with us, I want to rent something better than a mustang or camaro while we're there. I've looked through Turo, and found a BMW 428i convertible, and a Porsche Boxter S for reasonable daily rates ($106 and $140, respectively).  Both, sadly, are automatic, but that is probably a good thing, since my wife may be driving at some point on the trip, and she can't row her own.  I haven't driven either of these cars, before, but am looking for insight as to which we will enjoy more.  Driving highway 1, and other scenic excursions are on the agenda.  Thoughts/experiences with either, or better yet, someone that has driven both?

  13. Yes. Tell us more about those artichokes.

Fake decorations. I don’t fight it anymore. We have fake artichokes some oversized pears, fake lemons or limes I think, pumpkins in the fall, all kinds of stuff. Also have some fake moss in a basket hanging from the wall and your typical barnyard of chickens pigs and a rabbit. None of it edible. Although we did find our 2 year olds teeth marks in one of them

  14. Tonight, I cooked a sirloin for the kids to split, a filet for the wife and a nice looking NY strip for me. Finished with some fancy ass Himalayan sea salt we got as a gift. Also cooked some fresh green beans and mushrooms in some bacon fat. Turned out so damn good.

Resting and soaking up that pink salt

Listen,  blaming this for Saturday’s loss. You need to burn this up and try again.

Another question:  if I end up moving to the Carolinas, am I required to own and operate a golf cart?

I will settle for changing up the steering wheel (they painted the wrong color anyway)

On Carolinas, no idea, but in Prosper, if you have kids and aren't poor, get one.  They are fun as hell
