Fucking-A, the Salvation Army just finished an overhaul to fit in more families.  Now those parents are scared shitless because their kids are 15 yards away from an overflowing ARCH Center, a drug haven in Red River, and an alley of literally nothing but human shit and drug accessories.

This makes me sad.  I volunteered at that Salvation Army during my time at UT and they were doing some great things for moms with kids that really needed help.  Those kids were always pretty excited to see us coming in to help them with homework or just play games with them for a few hours.  It what world did they think it was a good idea to cram the ARCH center next to that?

It's just gawddamn fucking ridiculous. FUCK! I just can't. I need to stop coming to this forum. I need to stop listening to the news. I need to be off every platform. I can't do this anymore. He's a fucking clown. I'm too old for this shitshow to be happening at this point in my life.

This fits me to a T, save the too old part.  I think I could more easily maintain my sanity if I didn't know how ignorant this country continues to be.  Sad.

  3. Great point.  I do think there is still a decent amount of dry powder in the PE funds, but the lack of available exit strategies has them gun shy.  They are going to have to actually build sustainable operating companies instead of drilling a couple dozen wells and flipping it out to someone else.

  4. I've been through a few cycles but this one feels different because of all the changes to the PE model in the E&P space.  In past slowdowns there seemed to always be a pile of PE money that was ready to jump in and scoop up deals at depressed prices.  But those off-ramps are few and far between - especially in the water.  There's going to be a lot of junk that ends up in the state's lap for both LA and TX.  It's depressing to think about how many abandoned well bores and facilities are going to be left out there with no operator and no state funds available to P&A/decommission.

This was a great read.  Lieutenant Walter Taylor sounds like he made a clacking noise between his legs when he walked.

My grandfather was in the Marine Corps and fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal and others in the Solomon Islands.  He would never speak about it until he started to get Alzheimer's and then would tell a few of the same harrowing stories over and over.  I wish I had more information about his time over there so I could one day share more about it with my own kids.

I would like to think I would answer the same call if it ever came, but I can't help but feel a little inadequate when I think about what he went through and what he was able to accomplish during such a dark time in our history.

  6. They opened one of these in Nacogdoches and I never see anyone in there when we drive by it.

We did a corporate event at one in Denver and it was a big hit with everyone that attended.  It was much safer/better setup than the pictures in this thread.  They used 10-12" thick tree stumps nailed to the wall for targets and had thick wood shavings on the ground to prevent the axes from bouncing off the floor.  You could only throw over the head/shoulder and if you tried anything different you were immediately kicked out of the building.

I don't see how they will have any kind of staying power though.

  7. That's a big assumption.  A lot of them have no self awareness and drive way too close to my dock when kids are swimming and the lake is not crowded/choppy enough to even necessitate hugging the shoreline.  And I agree that yelling doesn't seem to faze them.

I had to tow one in last summer when he sucked the tow rope up in daddy's fancy $15k three seater.

  8. Marcy Wheeler (@emptywheel) was particularly dismissive of this on Twitter last night without saying too much about why.  I saw a comment that asked how in the hell could Manafort use TOR when he couldn't even manipulate a .pdf - seemed like a pretty good point to me.

  9. Others in my top 3/4 are Royal St. George's, Whispering Pines and Pinehurst #2.

5 birdies in 9 holes was an out of body experience.  I shot 46 on the front, had 3 bogies, 1 par and 5 birdies on the back for a 34 - smooth 80.

The other guys in the group all run in much taller grass than I do - one of them had played Augusta last year and said that Secession was in better shape.

  10. I got invited to play Secession Golf Club in Beaufort, SC last month and after three rounds on the course, I think it is firmly in my top 3 all time.  It's a walking only course, but everyone has a caddie double-bagging it and the course is designed to be very easy to walk.  Many of the caddies were over on a short term visa from Scotland and were a big part of the experience.  It's a links style course along the bay and the course plays very differently depending on whether the tide is in or out.  The layout, condition, history and location made this one of the finest golfing experiences I've ever had.

I played like an asshole for the most part, but did catch fire with 5 birdies on the back nine of the last round...
