  1. Vampire Weekend last night at The Anthem. Great show, but god damn, my 51 year old feet are hurting today after 2.5 hours standing in GA. Ditched the free form encore where he took cover requests, played the first minute, admitted he didn't know the words, then took another cover request.
  2. Let's state the obvious: Lloyd Bentson wiped the floor with Dan Quayle. Dukakis still got his shit pushed in.
  3. Beyond the fact it’ll be out of the news cycle by lunch, for Walz, this was basically a boxing match that he needed to represent well, and not get knocked out. He did that, won some late rounds on points, and managed to put Vance down on the canvas once to boot. Walz also didn’t get knocked down. But as an undercard, it’s already forgotten.
  4. This. I was at Vampire Weekend.
  5. He was underrated in Die Hard 2.
  6. While it doesn's surprise me they didn't learn the key lesson of 2020: GOTV works, I am shocked. Biden's prudent decision to not do GOTV for pandemic purposes, while the GOP was knockig doors definitely bit him in the ass on election day.
  7. BOOMER! Nixon/Agnew here. Bottom of the Baby Bust.
  8. You pair that with the destructive nihilism of Welcome to the Jungle and Johnny Cash reimagining Hurt into an epilogue and you are starting to cook with some real Gen X gas.
  9. I can't put any data to it, but I actually think Covid has killed off a statistically significant portion of the GOP voter base, and it's effecting outcomes at the polls.
  10. I'm not CR-ing here, but imo, the Biden Administration usually gets to the right place eventually, but there is some boobery along the way. Cock up before Conspiracy is sort of a calling card. My guess is its a bit rudderless over there anyway, since they are lame duck, and nobody has really buckled down on this in a way to form an actionable plan.
  11. The older Gen X that came of age under Reagan have never really waivered from the GOP. They've always been there. Unfortunately/fortunately, as a Gen X, I can confidently say: It probably doesn't matter since their are hardly any of us to begin with. Gen X: nobody gives a fuck about you except for your quality taste in music.
  12. The line I always use is if you have the energy to complain about it, you have a bad cold. With the flu, its a struggle to make it to the bathroom to piss.
  13. Like I said, how was Shoeless Joe’s bid going at that point? Field of Dreams was 1989, right? The Hall is a separate institution from MLB. But if Rose didn’t know what he was signing then he’s even dumber than I thought. And I think he’s very stupid.
  14. Yeah. Sure. The HOF was maybe gonna let him in, but then they fucked him? Right? Who knows, it was possible? Hows Shoeless Joe’s candidacy going?
  15. That’s always been the great argument against the ban: yay well, baseball players in general are pieces of shit, teams cheat. who can say, lots of people have debated it. but that’s not the case, the Dowd Report was overwhelming, and Pete Rose signed a paper agreeing to a lifetime ban. Doesn’t matter what a couple of choades on a Texas board think: it matters what Pete Rose did, of his own free will, at the time. it’s functionally no different than someone agreeing to penalties as part of a civil suit. It’s binding and done. Deserves got nothing to do with it. Although he also deserved it, imho.
  16. He signed a paper agreeing to a lifetime ban, which includes the hall. Not sure what else there is to debate.
  17. I looked back and you, as far as I scrolled, did not start the false equivalence. But to be clear, bringing up the Astros in a thread about Pete Rose makes you either stupid, dumb or attempting to deflect from his admitted crimes and faults via a false equivalence. It you thought the Astros cheated, take it to that thread. If you want to talk Pete Rose, stay here.
  18. That’s a false equivalence: you are equating two things that are at best tangentially connected (cheating, baseball) to make an argument that has minimal connection. Pete Rose never played for the Astros. There is no other relevancy here other than they are both in the MLB. Are you also going cite Jason Grimsley retrieving a corked bat in 1994 to create another false equivalence?
  19. I’m a Red Sox fan. I give them no quarter, but there isn’t a big sign in the clubhouse that says “thou shalt not have thy relievers scan the catchers signs and relay them to the dugout or be banned for life” Jfc, the Dodgers were stealing signs on Bobby Thompsons shot heard round the world. It isn’t about cheating: it’s about breaking the only fucking rule that is involuble and got Shoeless Joe banned. Also, not being a fucking pedophile.
  20. Holy shit, are your guys actually Red Herring the Astros to deflect from the fact that Pete Rose was a legitimate piece of shit?
  21. You endorse pedophiles. Definitely a choice.
  22. He signed a document agreeing to be banned for life. If anyone in this thread hasn’t read the Dowd Report, feel free to throw your computer in a dumpster and light it on fire.
  23. Fuck that guy. He was a first class piece of shit. Credible accused of statutory rape, a degenerate gambler, and a piece of shit.
  24. Yeah, if you follow inside beltway chatter, it's still an essential tool. I don't mean campaign hot takes, but like what's actually happening in the House and Senate Caucuses in real time or the floor. I couldn't do my job without Olivia Beavers, Jake Sherman, John Bresnahan, Sarah Ferris, etc. Used to be Manu Raju, but he got promoted to TV fulltime and isn't creeping around in the basement of the Senate anymore.
