Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Thatguy replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
Technically the 6 Oline package was just 12 personnel with a really good blocker. Our problem is we aren't very good blocking out of 12 personnel so we can't force teams out of 3 high. We are currently number 64 in the country and 8th in the SEC in rushing despite seeing light boxes every week. People keep saying we run fine but we are doing exactly what teams want us to do. They know that our running game is inconsistent and we will suffer a negative play somewhere in the drive and they can then take advantage of. -

You know what the adjustment is to 3 high safeties? Running the football until they stop it. -

And that is correct but those aren't misses. Ball was there but the DB just made a play on them. We aren't even talking abut those if they don't have 3 safeties on the field. Two safeties and the DB isn't close enough to make a break on them. Touchdown. -

Outside of that same deep post he always misses what deep ball did he "miss" vs Pig? I saw a few the DBs made plays on two and one that was absolutely a PI. Now ask yourself why they made plays on them. Because they were 3 safeties across, ignoring the run game by playing a 3 man front and dropping 8. Most teams see that and bully them in the run game to get them out of that. We tried and they stayed in it. Also, Tom Brady was a 6th round pick because people thought of him what you think of Ewers. We forget how he started out. -

Yes I saw that. They ran some 3 high usually in long yardage situations or vs 11 personnel, but not against heavy run packages. With us they stayed in 3 high with 3 man fronts pretty much the entire game no matter if we trotted Helm and Davis out there in 12 personnel or not. They were determined to keep our passing game in check and completely ignored our running game. It's a pretty consistent theme with us. I know you know that. -

and to help you Derka the hyperbole in this post is why people respond to you the way they do. Opposing teams are keeping their safeties back because THEY respect our ability to carve them up more than they respect our ability to run on them. Defensive alignment by your opponent tells you WHAT they feel is the most dangerous part of your offense. Arkansas kept 3 high safeties all day saying if you are going to beat us you are going to do it throwing underneath. Below is two shots of us in 12 personnel. Heavy run sets with double tight ends. One shot is the 1st series and the other the 4th quarter. Look at Arky sitting in 3 high completely ignoring what we have in the box. What are they afraid of Derka? They are afraid of that same QB you say sucks and isn't a threat to throw the ball downfield. When you have a box this light vs 7 blockers YOU DO NOT respect your opponent's running game at all. Now watch how they deal with same personnel grouping for Tenn and Aggy. 4 man fronts instead of 3 man fronts taking away an extra man in coverage. Even Ole Miss, who runs mainly 11 personnel, saw 4 man fronts on early downs. -

Because Derka, we all have eyes and can see Ewers going through his progressions. Even the announcers at the game are talking about him going through his progressions in real time. 1:30, 9:03, and 9:22 of the video below are three quick examples of Ewers CLEARLY going through progressions. https://x.com/NashTalksTexas/status/1857938058860990971 -

And this is exactly the example of what I am talking about above. Derka is using the phrase " heisman candidate/no.1 overall pick”, $1M NIL QB". Those are Derka's expectations based on what he was told by some 9.95ers years ago. I knew after 3 games that Jordan Whittington wasn't really a 5 star. Same with Johnathan Gray. If a guy is not overly athletic he can always be gotten to by a good pass rush. The only thing special about Ewers is his arm. He isn't particularly tall to see over the defense. He is pretty slight and isn't going to break arm tackles. He isn't going to juke you and he isn't fast enough to run away from defenders. When you come to that realization you start to see him differently and your expectations adjust accordingly. You stop saying why can't Ewers do A, B, and C that he cannot physically do and you start saying why aren't we giving him A, B, and C so he can do what we know he can do. -

It's not about being for him or against him. It's simply understanding what you are looking at and how matchups work. You guys heard he was the highest rated QB recruit ever and bought into that shit. Now you are disappointed every week the dude trots out on the field expecting him to be something he isn't. Had you seen him as the unathletic player he is you wouldn't be here crying every week. Why isn't there 85 pages of how shitty Card was? Because he wasn't a 99 recruit rating. Your disappointment is your own fault. Quit getting mad at me because dude doesn't live up to your lofty expectations. You've been looking at this kid for 3 years now and are still pissed that he can't run, gets hurt easily, and the line has to keep him clean in able for him to perform. Why haven't you accepted his short comings and moved on? Tom Brady was a statue in his time and didn't have the arm other QBs did. So they gave him a great line and built an offense around him based on the short passing game. Dude had a mediocre game with no turnovers but yall are here bitching like he threw 3 picks and we lost. -

That is correct. Tell it to the rest of these guys. Sark can be very stubborn with his packages. Very. Last year we figured out using an extra linemen would force teams out of that 3 safety look but Sark has abandoned it. He wants to always be able to throw it so he will stubbornly stay with 12 personnel at worst. He also doesn't really like to throw outs, comebacks, or stop routes. You know, shit most teams throw every game. He only really dusts those off when we are struggling. When he is calling it the way he wants to every route is on the move. Even the short shit for the most part. Last game as soon as we needed to put points on the board Sark went in his bag and called what he knew would work and we marched right down and scored. When Arch first popped in the game this year he was running that Shanahan OZ boot with levels on the back end to give Arch half field reads. He doesn't do that for Quinn unless he has to. He finally rolled the pocket for the guy on Saturday. -

That's not how football works. Notice you said they have a bad pass defense. Why? Could it be that because they employ a 3-3-5 in the SEC they find themselves having to spin DBs down to deal with the running game leaving them vulnerable on the back end? And if that were true wouldn't it mean that if they ever played a team that couldn't force them to spin down their DBs to help in the running game they would find themselves a little more capable on the back end? Quinn did not play well but we have struggled vs the 3-3-5 flyover since Sark has been here. The way Sark's route combos are matchup well with what the 3-3-5 does. The throw up the sideline to Golden that got broken up and the throw to Wingo are easily defended due to the 3 safeties on the field. In both those instances they rushed 3 qand dropped 8. Those same routes vs 2 safeties are catches. Sometimes a team is finding running success but you decide it isn't hurting you bad enough to come out of your base shell. You would rather trade giving up rushing yards in order to prevent from giving your opponent easy passing yards. We do this all the time. -

The two worst teams we played were the two teams that Arch started against. Full stop. Nothing else needs to be said. -

301 pages, 15,307 posts, and Derka just posted the dumbest post in this thread. My 16 year old daughter could answer this one for you Derka. She plays on a volleyball team that is miles better than her district. Early in the season they were playing really highly ranked teams like Dripping Springs and Fulshear in good Pre District tournaments. She got hurt just before district play and didn't return until just before playoffs. Her backup has a higher hitting percentage because she only played vs the shitty district teams. Good thing her coach isn't you or they lose 1st round of the playoffs. -

So the scenario has to be he was laid out? How hard does the hit have to be and how soon after the ball was let go? Does it have to be a route like that or can it be another route? How far does the route have to be from the line? Does it have to be a hit coming from his right or can the guy be coming blind side? Does the guy have to come untouched or can he come free after an initial block? Do we have to have verbal confirmation from Sark that the QB saw him coming and knew he was gonna get hit? Or is a post game interview of him explaining knowing he was going to get hit ok enough? I just wanna get it right before I post something and get told it wasn't the same. -

He threw a 15 yard dig on the money to Bolden against an 8 man drop. You guys hate him so much you can't member traumatic experiences. -

This is disingenuous Hobbes. He throws everything pretty well except that deep post. He even throws verticals decently. -

And that is completely where I've been about any player here at Texas not just Quinn. I have rarely have if ever banged on a player on this board. Every player has shortcomings. Even VY had one though I can't remember what it was. -

Again. I outlined Quinn's shortcoming to let YOU know I see them. We cannot line up and run right at teams and they know it. The whole idea is to get teams to help in the running game and we cannot do that. Arkansas stayed in their base D and dropped 8 quite a bit against the pass. That is not what you want. You want them to bring down a safety and free up numbers on the back end. -
Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

They aren't stacking the line of scrimmage Derka. Arkansas trotted out there in a 3-3-5. On 16 of Quinn's dropbacks they only rushed 3. That means they dropped 8. People are keeping their safeties back because we are no threat to them running the football. If they were stacking the box we would see 1v1 receivers in routes and we don't. If you cannot see teams aren't regularly stacking boxes then turn your TV back to basketball. -

What's crazy is the real reason we are struggling on offense is our inability to run the football. We have to manufacture runs with a ton of misdirection or get the receivers involved. We cannot just line up and run IZ. So a team like Arkansas, that normally has to spin down a safety to deal with good running teams, thus ending up giving up pass plays all over the field, can sit back in that 3-3-5. We had 12 personnel and can't bully them in the run game. A three man front yall. -

Thatguy replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
Yeah man. Let's start with the negatives- Ewers def has his limitations. He really isn't very athletic feet wise and it hurts him in the pocket. He CANNOT throw a deep post to save his life. 90% of the deep ball misses are the same deep post. They need to be thrown to the sideline and he throws them vertically every time. Sark keeps calling it and we keep missing it. He loves touch throws. Sometimes the long throws across the field need some pace on them and he loves to feather them in there. He doesn't trust his eyes and throw with anticipation. Positives- He loves touch throws. A lot of the reason we don't have the drops you see from other teams on Saturdays is he throws a soft, catchable ball. We forget how accurate he is. Ball is usually caught in stride allowing maximum yac. Tune in other Saturdays and watch what swing/short/intermediate passes look like. They don't look like that. He sees the right play. For example, the wheel up the left sideline that the DB closed on and knocked away was the right read. It was just thrown late or needed to be thrown with more pace. But it was the right read. He can also throw on the run we just don't move the pocket a lot. Other teams have to throw a lot of curls, stops, outs, and comebacks because their QBs can't hit a 15 yard dig in stride. The dig to Bolden between two defenders was a throw a lot of college QBs can't make. Quinn makes those so regularly that we get pissed when he misses one. So was the throw to Helm that he dropped(the real drop not the one Stassney was talking about). So was the throw on the move to the pilon. He has a good arm. He cannot throw a deep post. You have to protect him. That's who he is. -
