  1. Coyotes don't get as much attention as wolves or bears, but I enjoy them just as much. A really remarkable species, given how we still kill (literally) hundreds of thousands each year, and they've simply responded by continuing to grow both in population and in range. This old male had a busted leg - I doubt I'll see him again - but he ran, hunted, and pounced on prey the best he could.
  2. 'Tis not, but the last grizzly I posted on this thread was her. This pic is a huge male (600+ pounds) grizzly in Glacier National Park.
  3. Well uh, I hate to break it to ya...
  4. I can understand the desire to escape the oppressive East Texas heat (I grew up in East Texas), but my house is going to be pretty much full all summer with family and friends taking advantage of me living in Montana (understandably).
  5. Three hours north of Yellowstone
  6. I've been 6 times in 4 weeks. Nowadays I can't imagine living anywhere else.
  7. The cupcakes don't help the SEC, the 8 conference games with 14 teams so many of the top teams miss each other until the CCG is what really helps the SEC.
  8. "Too close" is the best answer. I was walking along a road between vantage points. I saw this one a hundred yards away, walking straight down said road. I started taking pics, just knowing that any second he would veer off into the brush. Except, he never did - he just kept waking, straight at me. Hard to describe my mind at the time; it was screaming to get out of the way but to also not move suddenly, that surely it's going to veer, etc. All in seconds and really my brain just froze. In the end, I was slowly backing up, and had gotten to the right shoulder of the road when the wolf got to the same section of road, straddling the dividing line. It stopped and looked at me for a few seconds, not even ten feet away, then walked off into the brush. Insane.
  9. Beautiful article, worth the read.
  10. Perfect post is perfect
  11. I lived in Cali for 6 years. It sucks. If it had 10% the population that it has, it would be absolutely amazing, but it doesn't, so it sucks. 3 hours to the mountains from the Bay? Sure, in theory, if you drive at 2am. But that drive has taken me 8-11 hours at times because of the fucking hordes of people. Way northern Cali - around Redding and further north - is livable, though there is the drug problem. The Trinity Alps are great. The eastern side of the Sierra is also nice, if you can find a career out there.
  12. Absolutely will do, and that sounds like the perfect evening. I plan on coming up there one of the next two summers.
  13. Fantastic spot. Denali is an incredibly beautiful, wild, and unforgiving world. The landscape is so different from anything south of Canada.
  14. Living the dream man. Whereabouts is your cabin?
  15. The R5 is great for wildlife; the AF tracking is superb. This is also my first mirrorless camera/ first time with an electronic viewfinder, and the fact that the EVF auto updates what you're seeing based on your current settings is awesome.
