  1. This is pretend land. Guaranteed Big XII conference matchups are more valuable when negotiating media deals for years down the road.
  2. The Big XII DOES have to play a full round robin if they want enough Big XII conference game inventory to get a fat check from our media partners. Guaranteed conference games are worth more in media contracts than OOC games that may be 1) shit teams or 2) on another team's home field.
  3. Do you? The AAC is already positioned to get that 6th auto the majority of the time. Does Boise add enough to the financial pie for everyone to come out ahead? Because BYU is almost assuredly not joining, even if Boise did, because they've got a massive inferiority complex about being in a conference as financially lucrative and prestigious as Utah (and they well may be making more right now than they would in the AAC). Anyways, there were articles circulating just a couple days ago that the AAC's pursuit of Boise ended.
  4. That's one thing that stuck out to me. ND NEVER gets a bye? I'm not complaining, but I'm surprised they're not complaining more.
  5. That's fair - if indeed some rounds are held on campus, then playing for the right to host is something. My initial comment was directed at the fact that undoubtedly a field of 8 with 6 autos makes conference championship games much more consequential, nonetheless, as they would usually be "win or you're out" games.
  6. I disagree somewhat. An 8 team playoff with autobids for the P5 champs strengthens the regular season because 1) it places much more emphasis on the conference title games again, bringing that regionality back to the sport, and 2) it incentivizes better OOC scheduling because good OOC matchups make shitloads of money, don't hurt your odds of getting the champ autobid, AND can greatly help your argument for an at large spot if you don't end up winning your conference.
  7. I don't like 16. Conference title games are meaningless with 16. And I can't think of a time a team lower than around #8 or so had any legitimate argument. 8 is perfect, but I also perfectly understand why the powers that be won't go for it.
  8. Coyotes don't get as much attention as wolves or bears, but I enjoy them just as much. A really remarkable species, given how we still kill (literally) hundreds of thousands each year, and they've simply responded by continuing to grow both in population and in range. This old male had a busted leg - I doubt I'll see him again - but he ran, hunted, and pounced on prey the best he could.
  9. 'Tis not, but the last grizzly I posted on this thread was her. This pic is a huge male (600+ pounds) grizzly in Glacier National Park.
  10. Well uh, I hate to break it to ya...
  11. I can understand the desire to escape the oppressive East Texas heat (I grew up in East Texas), but my house is going to be pretty much full all summer with family and friends taking advantage of me living in Montana (understandably).
  12. Three hours north of Yellowstone
  13. I've been 6 times in 4 weeks. Nowadays I can't imagine living anywhere else.
  14. The cupcakes don't help the SEC, the 8 conference games with 14 teams so many of the top teams miss each other until the CCG is what really helps the SEC.
  15. "Too close" is the best answer. I was walking along a road between vantage points. I saw this one a hundred yards away, walking straight down said road. I started taking pics, just knowing that any second he would veer off into the brush. Except, he never did - he just kept waking, straight at me. Hard to describe my mind at the time; it was screaming to get out of the way but to also not move suddenly, that surely it's going to veer, etc. All in seconds and really my brain just froze. In the end, I was slowly backing up, and had gotten to the right shoulder of the road when the wolf got to the same section of road, straddling the dividing line. It stopped and looked at me for a few seconds, not even ten feet away, then walked off into the brush. Insane.
  16. Beautiful article, worth the read.
