Oilers better get ready. Panthers bout to wear that ass out.

Florida was the best I've seen live.  We played pretty much a perfect 2 periods of hockey (and should have scored more) but then Florida turned it on in the 3rd and won it.  They were always the team I was hoping to avoid in the finals if we made it.  So yeah, I tend to agree with you.

I'm OK bringing back the entire roster and adding another defender. Wedgewood's numbers were above average this year but he's not a high-caliber goalie. I'd like somebody better there as the backup. I'm beginning to wonder if Otter is in that weird space where he's too good to ever think about benching in the playoffs but also not quite the superstar we thought we might have on our hands after that Calgary series. (I say this with full knowledge that non-superstar goalies have won the Cup in recent memory.)

I think Otter is absolutely good enough to win the cup.  He played fine this past series considering who he was up against.  There were probably only 2-3 goals the entire series he probably wants back.  It was our special teams play and D at times that really fucked us.  Most of their goals were no doubters.  Outside of Robo's hat trick game nobody really stepped up offensively.  We scored what - 12 non empty net goals in 6 games?  That flat out doesn't cut it.

I'll be surprised if Pavs doesn't retire.  Duchene is interesting because he was great for most of the season but didn't do much down the stretch or in the playoffs (besides the game winner against the Avs obviously).  I just have no idea what his expectations are in free agency.  Does he want to max out $$ and years? If so that probably isn't with Dallas.  His best pure $$ option might not be with a real contender.  There is a number where I think he works for us but not sure that number works for him considering we have more pressing needs.  Tanev is obviously the biggest need but of course his Agent knows that as well. Offseason will be interesting but that is probably a different thread.  But we are in a much better position starting off than most of our competition.

If we go down 2-0, are people going to want to pay huge money? On the flip side, if we go up 2-0, I'd imagine you might be able to get a little more seeing as people want the chance to see them lift the trophy.

100%.  DFW big game ticket market is such a winners town and massively impacted by momentum.  Best example of this was game 5 of the ALCS last year after we had lost 2 straight.  Still 2-2 and a huge game and I took a massive loss selling my extras.   In 2011, I recall having like $900 in cash for game 3 of the finals (after winning game 2 in Miami) and my wife and I couldn't sniff even terrible seats so watched at a bar.  Then, for game 4 (after losing game 3) we bought center court uppers in the 2nd row for like $350 each.  I had already gotten lucky with a great lower single from the presale for game 5 (which was before the Mavs figured out they should be charging "market" and not "face" value.

Where this ticket market lands is 100% dependent on how prior games go.  I think market dips a bit regardless for first 2 home games.  The only sure thing for an absolutely insane ticket market would be Mavs having a chance to clinch at home.

  4. Left it all on the ice tonight.  Nobody can question their character that's for sure.   Completely outplayed them but just couldn't finish.  Which is really the story of the playoffs.  Sometimes it really is about peaking at the right time and we just couldn't score goals.   Hurts mainly because this is probably the best team we've had in 25 years and that's it for several of these guys, but still a great run and great team.   We'll get back.

1st period looked like the last 3. Have to be aggressive from this point forward. That was brutal.

I mean outside of the power plays we pretty much dominated that period.   They (at least McDavid) are just too fucking good 5 on 4.   That first goal was insane.   That is just elite talent being elite.  Nothing we could do about it.

The refs aren't going to call everything. When your power play is this weak, the other team is gonna play like bullies. They don't fear getting called.

I think this is right.  They could have been called for at least 3 more.  Doesn't seem like it would have mattered.  The first call on us was weak AF.  2nd one, Suter needs to move his fucking feet and not get in that position. He's just too fucking old.  He actually had a solid playoffs until this series all things considered but his legs are done.

So god damn frustrating.  Completely outplayed them 5 on 5 but give those fucks a PP and we are toast.

  7. This is just getting beyond stupid in Dallas.   Had to be 3 inches in about 45 minutes here in NE Dallas.  Downtown taking it now and has to be a fucking mess.  I don't think I've ever seen this much rain in less than a week.  Luckily drainage I put in after 2019 flood seems to be holding up great in problem spots but beyond over this shit.

Any idea what face was for the end sections of the lower bowl? Prices are steep for even Cuban right now.

It's all relative depending on your status. I think season ticket holder "face" lowers behind the basket (relatively high up) were something like $380.  But Mavs (and Stars) have figured out they should capture "market value" instead of the brokers.  I'm pretty sure Mavs were selling non-allocated shitty uppers in the $800's which means they were selling lowers for well over $1K. Same thing for Stars.   My season tix (lower corner) were like $220 for game 5 Friday.  Stars were selling seats in my Section for I think around $400.  I know new ownership bumped season tix for Mavs significantly next year.

  9. Ticket pricing is pretty insane.  I went to games 4 and 5 in the 2011 finals and that wasn't cheap (in 2011 money) but just no way to justify $2K for a shitty lower.  Will be interested to see if this market holds.  I know of several half season or 20 game pack holders putting up game 3 to try to make their playoff spend back on 1 game which isn't a bad strategy if it works.

We knew defending these guys was going to be a challenge, but I don’t think anyone saw long periods of annihilation to our offensive game coming.

Exactly.  I told a gambler buddy to hammer the over 5.5 last game. I thought with Tanev out or playing injured our D would struggle but fully expected our offense to wake up and score 3-5 goals. I expected 8 combined goals minimum with someone winning 5-3 or 5-4.  I was shocked how they shut us down.

This kind of response worries me a little bit because it wasn't an unreasonable question. DeBoer usually seems pretty unflappable. His clap-back at Cowlishaw, a really, really good dude BTW, makes me think DeBoer was not happy with the performance and might be running out of ideas.

I think it was intentional and was one of his last ideas LOL. Show the team he's got their back while also clearly letting them know their character is being questioned (regardless of whether that was Cowlishaw's actual intent).   I think we'll know what this team has left by how the first 20 minutes go.

Couple of buddies of mine from Edmonton at the game. I asked what they thought......

'Great atmosphere. Nice arena. But what's with people going to get food during the power play?'

Ha! Some things you just don't do north of the border.

There were a lot of Edmonton fans and they seem like a great fanbase.   Support their team hard without being jackasses.   They seem infinitely better than the Knights and Avs douchebags I encountered.

  13. Last night felt like a funeral after they went up 3.   It just seemed like a combination of Stars being out of gas and Edmonton hitting another gear.   I listened to a podcast with a Vegas analyst and Sean Shapiro before the Vegas series started and one thing that stuck with me is Shapiro saying that what concerned him about Vegas from a Stars perspective is that even if you get past them, how much will the body blows of playing such a physical team in a 7 game series take out of you down the road.  Wonder if we are starting to see that now.

I fully expect this team to give it their all tomorrow night.   I agree 100% with what Pete said and I absolutely don't question this teams character.   I just question whether they are spent.  Guess we'll find out tomorrow.   Would love to get this to a game 7 on Tuesday and let the chips fall.

That wasn't the Iron Bowl on Thanksgiving. It was the Egg Bowl.

That's right.  Typing too quickly.  I would assume they keep Iron Bowl in traditional 2:30 slot.  So we are likely primetime with Aggy.  But it seems like one of those decent SEC games has to get moved to either Thurs night or Friday afternoon.
