Expansion doesn't solve the ooc problem. All you've done is exacerbate it just like going from 4 to 12. Now teams will not schedule tough ooc to avoid that 4th loss and get in with 3.
The only solution to ooc conundrum is to say you'll consider strength of schedule instead of solely relying on losses, and then actually doing it.
Yeah, but if you get to 24 with play in games replacing championship weekend, at that point, there wouldn't be much to bitch about. For example, if you went 4-4-2-2-2, SEC could seed top 8 with play in games. If you finish top half of league, lose your play-in game and still can't get one of the 10 at large seeds, I don't think you have much of a case.

I said earlier in this thread that Sankey would be happy with this scenario because now he can get more of what he wants out of the committee. I'm sure he's very interested how Bama is ranked if they lose on Saturday. If Bama drops out then the CCG goes away.
Sankey is looking to (i) maximize $$ and (ii) maximize SEC playoff teams. Networks need marquee OOC games for $$. Networks (and everyone) want playoff expansion for $$. This committee just gifted Sankey a ton of leverage. SEC has dominated the TV ratings this season and Fox/NBC are similarly desperate for SEC teams to play on their networks OOC (again, Fox had TX/OSU which was highest rated game of the year).
Now he doesn't have to threaten to "take his ball and go home". But what he'll say is that if expansion isn't acceptable to us, we'll just keep it how it is and I'm directing all my teams to cancel ND and any P4 game at their discretion given it's clear there isn't any upside.

We all saw it coming. Committee said fuck you sark. So let’s see if we were bluffing about canceling big OOC games now.
Didn't they just extend deadline to negotiate playoff expansion? Now Sankey is going into those negotiations with this card (and legitimate threat) of pulling the mandatory P4 OOC game and directive to cancel any scheduled games.

It's beyond clear the SEC ranking of OU, Bama, Texas, Vandy is honoring H2H. And somehow ND/Miami is completely outside of that analysis. I don't know who is lobbying for ND here but I hope they get every decent game scheduled after this BS. It's beyond clear no upside or downside to scheduling big games OOC given treatment of both Miami and Texas. ND should be behind all of that group.

I'd imagine the plan is if things hold form, Tech wins, Georgia wins, and Bama looks decent that they flip Bama and Notre Dame. Bama goes to aggy. Notre Dame goes to OU. No repeats.
I think this is exactly right.

If we come in at 12. The final boss is going to be convincing this committee to drop either ND or Bama behind us on a week where we dont play. Best things that can happen for us to make this occur would be for Indiana to lose and UGA to win big. Then our losses are road losses to the SEC and BIG champion and Bama simultaneously gets their resume weakened. That gives us the best argument over Bama or ND.
Slotted above Miami tonight, Tech wins, OSU wins, UGA wins big + Simpson gets hurt and backup ineffective invoking FSU precedent. That's probably the only path. I just can't see this committee that has been in love with ND somehow moving them out.

Olympic break is 2/5 to 2/25 so I wonder if they’ll give him until then to recover.
Wouldn't surprise me. It's pretty amazing how well we've played the last month despite the injury issues. Really need to start getting others back.

So the Texas vs. OSU 16.6M was the highest regular season number.
The TV network execs are really going to hate losing that windfall of money starting next year.
I think this will just end up driving playoff expansion and networks incentivizing it. There is just way too much money to be made (i) marquee OOC games, (ii) auto-qualifier "play-in" games replacing championship weekend and (iii) expanded playoff inventory.
After this committee there is no chance they piss all 3 of those buckets of money away. They will cut a deal that somehow doesn't significantly penalize the marquee OOC (likely more guaranteed spots for SEC/BIG).

The Vegas odds dont reflect that. Vegas seems divided on ND or Bama being more vulnerable to sliding out of the top 10 at some point. If you go by the Vegas odds, we will come in behind Miami at 13.
Fan Duel playoff odds are strongly implying (i) Bama will be in regardless of outcome and (ii) Notre Dame is in as long as BYU loses (and out if ND wins).
The odds strongly imply Bama at 9, ND 10 and BYU 11 tonight. And less strongly imply Miami at 12, Texas at 13 and Vandy at 14.

I think, between Sark in the video above and Bianco in the tweets, they've done that in spades. They've presented multiple very solid arguiments and I think, now, that we'll probably get in. But who knows. None of us knows shit about fuck.
I'll still be shocked but both Sark and the SID did a great job making our case.

Arkansas at Texas was the highest rated game last week with 5.6 million viewers
This week it was
1. Texas vs Aggy 13.8 million
2. Ohio State-Michigan 12.4 million
3. Auburn vs Bama 9.8 million
I hadn't seen that drop yet, but if correct, I'm pretty sure that means Texas-OSU and Texas - Aggy are top 2 rated games of the season. As others have noted, ABC does not want to lose future rights to Texas/OSU, Michigan and ND. That is why you see Herbstreit and others beating the drum.

By ND(as they should, tell them fuckers to join a real conference), not sure they'll cancel OSU...they should keep OK ST.
Exactly. Every relevant program needs to tell ND to fuck off. If they want a gifted path to the playoff every year playing the service academies and other shitty teams for an incredibly boring regular season, that's just fine. But if they want to play marquee games, they can join a conference like everyone else.

Bichsel needs surgery and out 6 weeks. Probably good news. I was at game Sunday and was worried he was done for the season given his reaction.

Maybe. But in the discussions over whether to drop Ole Miss, or where to seed them if they are in, I can see committee discussion along the lines of: "Sure, their DC is staying. But who's calling the offensive plays? Who's scouting the first round opponent and formulating an offensive game plan? Who's managing the clock and making halftime adjustments on the offensive side of the ball?"
I can't think of a data point for comparison, but has a highly-ranked team finished the regular season, only to play a bowl game after its head coach and offensive staff left the program? I have to imagine that throws even highly-talented teams in disarray.
You are talking about a committee comprised of former coaches that appreciate the calendar is a mess which is causing the changes before the playoffs + AD's who appreciate their school could get f'd if their team is in a similar position with a hot coach and would never want to set that precedent. I don't think any chance a committee with that background punishes Ole Miss regardless of whether they should or not.

I think that is a reasonable position. Texas moved down because of the game last year, so the precedent is the game matters. Anyone saying that there is no negative ramifications playing in the game has not watched these committees the last decade.
I would love to see what they do if Bama is completely non-competitive and the game is essentially over by the 2nd quarter. Would be interesting for sure.

Let say BYU wins, AND Bama wins. Now what? #3 UGA not dropping out. #9 Dome? LOL.. #8 OU sucks? If Tech loses they better hope like hell the committee flips OU and Dome this week or the committee will go in dry on them.
Assuming we don't have a realistic path once rankings released tomorrow, I'm absolutely rooting for BYU, Bama, and Duke. Let's just have mass chaos and blow the current structure up.

please explain this. Georgia moved up last year beating Texas in a conference championship game. They jumped Texas, so Texas moved down and Georgia moved up. That is clear evidence that CC games do count. If Bama loses in a tight game, it does not matter. If Georgia boat races them, it is a different situation. Then there is the injury situation that could be an issue, which we have seen. I do not think Texas is getting in. I think it is a single digit chance, but the idea that CCG do not matter is incorrect
Slight movement within the playoff seeding should be obvious and expected. But as much as I have questions about Bama, I don't think they should get punished and pushed out for winning the SEC tiebreaker and playing an additional game while A&M and Ole Miss sit at home. I think that would set a terrible precedent and likely end the concept of Conference Championship Games (which I think is inevitable regardless). I can't imagine a scenario where the SEC gets 4 or 5 teams in but the team that finished 2nd in the league is left out.
If we have an expanded playoff with 4 AQ, I hope this weekend turns into SEC #1 and #2 are auto admits and then #3 plays (at home) against #6 and #4 plays (at home) against #5 for the auto bids. Or have 4 play-in games (1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5). That would make this weekend must see TV.

What's funny in all of this is that BYU actually has a strong SOR (#6) and a better SOS than ND, OSU, Indiana and Ole Miss. I wouldn't have thought that but they drew a bunch of the good not great Big 12 teams. If they get beat by Tech in a close game this week, BYU probably still has a better resume than ND and yet ND is already slotted above them. So they do in fact ignore the loss column for Big 12 teams LOL. I wonder if Tech could end up getting bumped if they lose because their SOS is by far the worst of anyone in the conversation.

He said the only other team doing that right now is ND. So ND must be feeling uneasy right now.
It's never made sense where the committee has had them ranked. They did it to create a H2H buffer against Miami hoping it would all work itself out and it hasn't. I don't know how the committee can walk it back now but ND should feel uneasy as their resume doesn't stack up.

Let’s be honest: the committee can and will do whatever the hell they want to and reverse-engineer their explanation.
The dumbest thing about it all is that they start the ranking shows way too early with limited data (for TV reasons) and then end up backing themselves into corners because they can't even be consistent week to week much less year to year. But I agree they do whatever they want and at the end of the day will always try to find the path of least resistance. As someone mentioned, it wouldn't shock me at all if they put both Texas and Vandy ahead of Miami for the sole purpose of creating a fake buffer to continue to ignore the H2H with Notre Dame. They will decide who they want in and then reverse-engineer the rest for their talking points.

College football has jumped the shark for me. I love college football and will always follow, but this sport is just another professional league that doesn’t give a shit about the games themselves, rather the narratives to garner one more viewer. Yes, I realize this is a hot take and not a new concept, just saying that I was trying to give myself another reason to hold on but just can’t muster the give a damn. Preseason polls that mean nothing and everything, style points and politic-ing to beg people to vote your team in. Why not send out a text message to viewers to see who they think has the singing voice, I mean football team, to beat the champs!
These are the same circular arguments we had during the BCS era and zero has changed.
Alright, I’ll be over here fucking myself. 🤘🏼
WTF does this even mean. If you don't like national media, talk shows, narratives, politicking, etc. nobody is forcing you to consume any of it. But of course people care about the games. Were you at DKR Friday night? Because I was and it was fucking awesome.
And what you are bitching about is what makes CFB the complete opposite of "just another professional league" in every way imaginable. Pro leagues don't leave playoffs up to fucking random committee. Pro teams don't have calendars that make zero logistical sense where you are roster building during the playoffs. College Football and the shit show that it is is about as unique of a sport that exists.

Precedent will likely be set this year in one way or another as Bama can be the first 3 loss at large. Our best hope here is when debating setting the precedent of a 3 loss at large they compare the fullness of the Bama/Texas Resumes. I would still have money on their resume over ours but the FSU loss evens it out some.
I think bumping the SEC runner up out of the playoffs because they played an extra game against a top 3 team would set its own horrible precedent.
The reality is, however this goes, it's giving Sankey tons of leverage in negotiating playoff expansion. It's not a coincidence that the SEC went to a 9 game schedule the day after the playoffs announced SOR would be a a big factor. And now the committee is just ignoring this. Particularly with respect to Notre Dame. I actually think Notre Dame is one of a handful of teams that could win it all so I get it, but placing them as high is they are is just willfully ignoring their shitty schedule.
In the committee's defense, it's an extremely unique year where there just weren't any upsets the last few weeks so there are more playoff worthy teams. I think last year a 9-3 Texas team would have gotten in rather easily over SMU.
Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs

It's even worse than that. It's W/L record, and sometimes head-to-head, unless it's Notre Dame. Then that doesn't matter either. They blew out a bunch of shitty teams after going 1-2 against the only 3 teams with a pulse. Imagine only having to play up for 3 games per year, lose 2 of them and it's fine.
