Yeah the 2011 article had the Eastlands making about 200k from the camp seemingly in profit distribution above any salary, and other family getting 20k annual dividends.
Based on numbers sent to me that had to be increased significantly based on current camp tuition rates. I'm sure the full numbers will probably come out over time.

Lots of Monday morning quarterbacking going on.. The people that own these camps have probably seen 100’s of flash flood warnings and watches and in the last 40 years and it hasn’t swept away their cabins. After a while you tend to ignore them to a point because it never floods you. No one knows exactly how high a flash flood will get before it happens and this one being in the middle of the night didn’t help. Now a siren alert system definitely would have helped but that’s not on them and to put blame on people that died trying to save people is a bit much.
One of my best friend's daughter was at the camp when this happened and is safe and I've talked to him about it this week. His wife went to camp there, was a counselor etc. as were other family members. They are also close to the family. But from what I gather the dad's that are not as attached emotionally to the camp and able to look at this a little more objectively are pretty incensed at the situation and don't think it's going to go well once litigators dive into all of this. He sent me a breakdown of projected revenue based on what they pay + number of camps and sessions, etc. There was certainly plenty of profit available to improve safety and risk management and there is certainly a view in hindsight that it was lacking. I'll probably hear more once we're able to grab a beer and discuss in more detail, but just throwing out there to say that criticism started to grow is not limited to those of us reading about it all on the internet. There are some very connected people that lost kids or grandkids that I doubt just write this off as a tragedy that couldn't have been prevented.

My understanding is the money given to TOF rolls into AD revenue and will be allocated to the $20.5M allotted for rev share. Happy to be corrected, but that's my understanding.
If that were to be the case then my next question would be what is the role of the Longhorn Foundation going forward.

I think I'm even more curious now between interplay between Texas One Fund and athletic dept and actual role of Texas One Fund and our donations going forward. I'm sure it's all being figured out in real time in some respect, but to the extent Texas One Fund still needs our money, I don't think they have done a very good job of communicating exactly what our funds will be used for post 7/1. Does anyone on this board that initially help set it all up understand how it's going to work going forward? I have a text chain on this exact topic with people wondering why they shouldn't cancel monthly donation in new world.

Just because some of you are more interested in politics and let it have a deep impact in your personal life doesn't mean a bunch if people who come go this site for FOOTBALL RECRUITING NEWS, and maybe a little bit of a funny take on current events or a crowd sourced news thread that goes further and more diverse than any machine learning based solution would pump to you.
That's the magic here for 90%+ of posters. Then there are 10% of posters who legitimately cannot divorce themselves from politics in any facet of anything. Stay in the fucking cloak room, no one asked you to stop posting there. People repeatedly ask, and the rules have been the same since the inception of this community that politics stays off the rest of the board.
Just chiming in to say I think this is dead on. Come for the sports talk but then get your fill of entertainment, food/travel, and in particular, news updates (and on the rare occasion in the mood for politics, I knew where to find it). That is what made the site great for a long time. It was an incredibly efficient way to catch up current events in between calls. I spend a lot less time here than I used to because the 10% of posters are completely incapable of not letting their strong political feelings infect every thread they participate in and I just log out.
My personal view is that social media algorithms have completely broken people's brains on both sides of the aisle and it infects everything. Hell, I feel it personally when I start scrolling my phone (and as a moderate my algorithm manages to make me pissed off at both sides). One idea would be that if you decide to post in the Cloak Room, you are just locked out of DT. But then the problem would be DT would just become Fox "news" over time. I don't think there really is a fix.
BTW - this isn't unique to this board. I've used my buddy's OB account for like 15 years from time to time. Similarly, there are lot of experts there that make non-sports threads (investments, etc.) good reads, but they have the opposite problem as that board leans heavy MAGA so you can't stop the MAGA idiots from ruining any off topic thread. It's just a societal problem at this point. Politics has completely overwhelmed certain people to the point that it impacts virtually every single aspect of their life. What's funny is, I know several people like that in real life, but when I manage to see them in person they are largely completely capable of having normal conversations. It's social media algorithms and the internet that have turned everyone insane online in particular.

Major deluge during afternoon commute in Dallas today. Lots of pooling water, and Greenville Avenue totally flooded outside the Royal Oaks CC entrance - cars were barely getting by on the median. We've gotten almost none of what y'all have received down there the past week, so this was a change.
What's hilarious is Delkus (and I'm usually a big fan) posted something to the effect of "it should be clear tonight" about an hour before this all hit. I checked radar right before I left downtown as I saw some clouds to the north east but looked like nothing so took off then was in the middle of it last couple of miles (and I live close to Royal Oaks and know to avoid that Greenville area when it rains like this). It's been raining off and on ever since and we lost power for about 30 minutes. Not that crazy of a storm or anything but bizarre nobody locally really predicted it and it soaked a big chunk of the metroplex. I don't think anyone really knows what to do with whatever the system is - very atypical pattern.

This is correct. TOF is not attempting to make a profit. Just no longer working as a 501(c)3 since House excluded that as a legitimate vehicle going forward.
But how does it work going forward? As I understand the original model, players would be paid to essentially do marketing and/or make public appearances (sign autographs, etc.) for non-profits. So players would be paid for showing up and doing the work, charity benefitted via promotions from athletes, and Texas One Fund donations supported the player contracts for these services.
So now that contracts are supposed to be "true" 3rd party/corporate NIL - what do the individual donations support? Is it effectively subsidizing a for profit NIL contract? Or are donations effectively paying salaries for marketing agent's who's job it is to go find NIL deals?

Fine with the Faksa signing. It doesn't move the needle but it fills a need. Still currently over the cap so have to have a trade planned for Bushkin and/or Dumba. I kept telling yall we didn't have the $$ for Granlund (even if he would have taken a significant discount) but didn't expect he could net $7MM on the market. That's a big number and probably a sizeable overpay for someone turning 34 in February. Makes that Duchene contract some were questioning look like great value. Guess that's the benefit of being one of the best players available 7/1 in a weak free agency class.

There wasn't a hire out there that was going to "wow" anyone. Most of the coaching carousel had happened before we fired Pete. I still blame Pete for putting us in the position with game 5 during and post game panic/meltdown (for lack of a better word). Obviously none of us know what all was going on behind the scenes so maybe it was a move that needed to happen regardless, but certainly wasn't on anyone's radar when we started the WCF.
Hopefully this guy works out - obviously now has a lot more experience since he last shot as a HC.

How about you compare. Compare to any other military operation in any administration. Unless you're talking about a singular or final goal (like killing OBL, or obtaining the unconditional surrender of Japan), they don't use such insane hyperbole as this one (and even then, the statements are broader and not stated to be 100% self-aggrandizing. Obama didn't say "only I could have led our military to kill Bin Laden.")
Nobody has a problem with an admin talking up a military operation. Sure, it's what they do. The issue here is that 1) nothing this admin is connected with is ever anything LESS than "the most amazing bestest ever, all of history is now eclipsed by what we just did," and 2) the results have to be "complete and total annihilation/obliteration," saying it's anything less is TREASON and DISLOYALTY TO OUR TROOPS.
It was a good mission, well-planned and well-run. It likely had some real impact on Iran's nuclear program. They could say that, and it would be like every other admin in history.
When you minimize and normalize the utterly insane and abnormal batshittery spouted by this clownshow, you only beclown yourself.
Got it. So it all comes back to Trump like it always does. Guess I need to go look at Twitter and see what he got all the CR'ers fired up about today. I assume he's acting like a fucking buffoon like he always does. I could give 2 shits what that idiot has to say about anything. That doesn't mean the actual planning, coordination, etc. of the strike itself wasn't impressive. It's ok to appreciate the American military without feeling like you are supporting the administration you know. But yeah - I'll see my way back to the Stars or recruiting threads which can hopefully stay devoid of the rampant TDS that infects every fucking discussion on this board.

Nobody anywhere doubted it could be pulled off especially against the Iranian military. The issue currently is his and his minions' insistence on always having to be the bestest or greatest thing ever which is a complete insult to the people who fought prior wars against legitimate enemies in some of the most complex and tactical missions ever conceived and executed upon. Flying a plane into the desert and dropping some bombs on a mountain surrounded by goat fuckers pales in comparison. Sure its complex and well executed, but the puffery and comparisons are what are insanely unnecessary and idiotic.
Yes, quite the shock that the U.S. is boasting about a complex military operations. Never seen that before. Not like there aren't dozens of Hollywood movies dramatizing damn near every material military accomplishment this country has ever had.

Tactically, the mission was very impressive. Whether it was strategically wise or successful is up for debate.
Agreed. I mean particularly considering the context of what an absolute shitshow and worldwide embarrassment pretty much the entire Ukraine war has been for the Russian military. Israel with their first strike and then the U.S. with this strike still put the world on notice as to what a competent military can look like.

Coordinating the actions of over hundred aircraft with minimal to no communication over thousands and thousands of miles so that they all arrive where they are supposed to be precisely when they are supposed to be there is very complex. Doing so in way that will minimize the likelihood of detection while also including multiple mid-air fueling points even more so.
Seriously. Are people on this board serious trying to downplay an outstanding job by our military because of fucking politics. JFC.

Glad it worked out for both sides. Jamie’s obviously on the decline but he’s still a huge presence in the locker room.
Yep. Nobody is ready to take over Captain role yet. Hopefully can manage his minutes better next year so maybe he has more left in the tank for a playoff run. I think Jamie will be completely content playing whatever role is asked of him.

Instead, accuse the GOP of raping chipmunks, create fake videos of them raping chipmunks, and make sure they saturate every social media outlet known to man. Utterly stupid shit like that is how you win.
I don't disagree that this would be a more successful tactic in the age of idiocracy compared to embracing socialism.
To the poster above, it has nothing to do with this particular candidate or his particular platform. It's the larger optics of the "center of the universe" and home of Wall St potentially electing a self proclaimed socialist. I'm talking about national perception in this thread. Not local or specific policies. It matters because it is NYC (again, I'm sorry, fucking Vermont is irrelevant in every sense of the word). It's international news because it's NYC. It led the today shows this AM. And "far left socialists taking over America, just look at NYC" is a message that will resonate with swing voters. The entire point is that it's not a great data point when dems will have every opportunity to win back a ton of seats in the midterms.

Pray tell, what part of Kamala's campaign was far left? Or was it nominating a candidate who wasn't a white man that you consider far left?
When did I ever criticize Kamala's campaign or say she was far left. I think she did the best she could under terrible circumstances (i.e., last minute replacement not on a single ballot until the national election).

Dammit, now the Republicans are going to say we elected a Socialist in New York City. We're doomed. Doomed I tell I ya! Next thing you know we'll have a Socialists Senator from Vermont.
Yeah, the "Center of the World" is a tad more consequential than Vermont with a state population that is probably less than each borough. Nobody cares about Vermont. This made international news.

And hell, I don't know if it will win or not. But the Dems have tried the "be a middle of the road, rational party" route, and they've gotten their asses handed to them by a LITERAL narcissistic psychopath with zero governing principles other than "me me me," selling messages of extreme xenophobic hatred and dissolution of the Republic to install an absolute monarchy. It's been a completely winning message. So, we know what the winning path in America 2025 looks like. Might oughta try walking it.
They got their asses handed to them (i) replacing an old AF candidate that proved to be outright incompetent at the debate (proving out 2 years of campaigning on the issue by R's better than they could have ever dreamed) and then inserted Kamala without any primary, (ii) with rampant inflation the last 2 years of his term (which in my view was inevitable and not Biden's fault but the President will always get the blame) and (iii) after setting themselves up to be attacked on massive illegal immigration (tried to fix too late and were of course blocked by the R's so it became a campaign issue) . Take away any of those 3 and they likely win (and almost certainly take away either (i) or (ii) and they win). It took a trainwreck for the R's to win the last cycle. And 95% of this board was convinced it could not possibly happen right up until the election.
But sure, I'm the irrational with a hot take that socialism is not a winning platform in the year of our lord 2025 LOL. Again, most of this board lives in a fantasy world. But carry on.

Yeah it's pretty obvious democrats can literally not win with people like Skipper, so why even try. Fuck em.
I've only voted R for President once post Bush (Romney). I voted straight D last election on anything non-local. But if they want to move far left, that's fine, I'll sit and home and let the nutjobs on both sides fight it out. And I'm fairly confident how that will go. A lot like last cycle.

if I were to guess, I would say that you lie even to yourself about being one of these mythical Americans and you would tell us that you didn’t vote at all but you actually voted for Trump.
Yes to both. And there are a shit ton of like minded people that would never vote for a socialist. I've already seen a few Democrats rejecting this nonsense because they know it is political suicide.

This is the same idiotic ideas that got Kamala doing town halls with Liz Cheney with a week left in the campaign. Be proud to not be Republican lite. Call Trump and maga out on all their terrible shit.
Cuomo was a fucking terrible candidate and got bitch slapped as a result. Bill Clinton, James Carville, Chuck Schumer want it to be 1995 and it’s not anywhere fucking close.
Good luck with that. Kamala trying to appeal to the center right anti-trump is the only thing that kept the election from being a bigger blowout.

July 4th Hill Country Flooding Tragedy

Posted
The message I received was equally as blunt about how this will play out. I get the sense that for my buddy and other dad's with surviving daughters the mindset is going back and forth between incredible sense of relief/feeling lucky and disbelief/anger at the level of negligence involved at all levels including the camp itself.
