Sorry, what happened? Bottas having wheel nut issues again?

    from VB:

    Quote

“We have actually an issue on both cards with cross threading,” Bottas explained. The team has acquired new equipment for this year, the honorary Aussie noting that it “is faster; it’s something that the top teams are using.”

He added: “With the wheel nuts, we tried to go for a route to make them super lightweight, so the material we are using is the issue.

“In pit stop practice over the winter, there was no issues, but we’re seeing that in races when the temperature gets higher because of the brakes, then the wheel nut [has problems].”

The 10-time grand prix winner underscored that the issue is with the hardware and not the pit crew.

“It’s more about components,” he said.

“It’s nothing that the pit crew is doing wrong or nothing the pit crew needs to change.”

Smoking briskets this weekend for Easter.  Need some insight.   My plan as of today is to start the smoke early in the morning, say 7 am and hope to be done in 12-14 hours if the brisket cooperates.  My question comes with the hold.  Now I usually paper wrap.  I'm planning to pull the brisket at say 195 degrees and then wrap in plastic wrap and a towel.  Then take an ice chest with a towel in the bottom lay my brisket package in there and cover with another towel and let that thing hold until the next morning.

Anyone have any expertise in such?  I don't have a YETI just a Coleman 5 day cooler, etc.

how long are you talking about holding? you get diminishing returns at a certain point - like 10ish? hours

i do the long rest in the oven, turn it as low as it will go and sleep well. don't have to worry about anything that way - i do this with the foil boat method but it is absolutely fine with peach paper. just remember to pull it from oven early and let it cool to cutting/eating temp on the counter - don't pull it, it then cut it immediately.

you will never do another one without the long rest, it makes a huge difference.

Do we put any value in that Sainz is the only person other than Max that's won a race since Perez in Race #4 of last year?

Not being sarcastic, but do we judge only on points or on the ability to win?

i mean, are we going to sit here and say he would have won yesterday if Max's car didn't die under him? because that's quite a leap.

Wins matter, sure, but so does overall performance. Last year LEC had 2x as many podiums (6) as Sainz did (3) - in 2022 LEC had 11 podiums and 3 wins, SAI had 9 podiums and 1 win. LEC beat him by 62 points in the same car.

even with the win last year for SAI, LEC still had a better avg finish and out qualified him 14-8 and had 5 pole positions vs SAI's 2. in 2022 he out quali'd him 16-6. in 2021 LEC out quali'd him 14-8. Leclerc has been the better driver in the car during their time as teammates, even with his brain farts and Sainz having 2 wins - based on points at least.

    re: 2023 Singapore

Singapore last year was easily the worst race for RBR since the the 2022 Bahrain double DNF. only time last year Max didn't finish on the podium and both Red Bulls were knocked out in Q2, article said this was the first time since 2018 that neither Red Bull made it to Q3.

RBR came in with subpar to bad setup, couldn't get it fixed (article said they brought a new floor and then they reverted back to the old floor for FP3, quali and the race? brough new wing changes too), made bad strategy calls during the race and got unlucky (strategy was to hope for a safety car for a cheap pit stops + tire strategy), and then paid for it by finishing 5th and 8th.

    per Horner:

    Quote

“Our pre-race simulations were saying about P7,” Horner explained. “But that’s in a standard race.

until the last stint (Max on new Mediums, Carlos on 20 lap old Hards) Max basically never was running a faster lap time than Carlos - even then Carlos was holding the field up as part of the strategy. once again, subpar setup considering how dominate they were the rest of the season.

    Spoiler

    image.png.820f4dac250ad9bbaf6902b69cc41985.png

Sainz led every lap of the 23 Singapore GP, Max had 6 laps total in the top 5. Checo had 3. RBR had no laps in the top five after lap 27 of a 62 lap race.

Sainz did everything he could with the car and deserved the 23 Singapore GP win and yesterday's win for sure. but acting like he outdueled Max to win either race is incorrect.

I don’t understand the panic.  There are so many unknown nothing roads in the hill country, I don’t see how it would be difficult to just pick one and find a roundabout way to get there.

they are expecting ~150k visitors in Gillespie County

Kerrville specifically is expecting +100k people (up to +150k)

i've heard expectation of ~+20 to +30k in Mason (total county population <5000)

Kendall County is expecting +50k visitors

San Antonio is expecting double the occupancy vs the same weekend last year. AUS is telling people to get to the airport 2.5 hours early for domestic flights.

lots of backroads, sure, but an incredible # of people driving in because of how close Austin and San Antonio (and even places like Houston) are to the totality.

that's without adding in things like Waze which will route folks on those backroads due to how busy the main roads are.

To me, Sainz is the 2nd best driver in F1.

oh man, i have a very hard time saying that about someone who has never finished better than 5th in the constructors championship, and only beaten the brakes off his teammate once since he left Toro Rosso (he smoked the hell out of Kvyat in 2017 54-5) was smoking 19 year old rookie Lando

last year, LEC had 2x as many podiums and outscored him despite SAI winning a race. the year before that LEC beat him by 62 points. the year before that he beat LEC by 5.5 points and LEC had a DNS from pole at Monaco and another retirement while SAI finished every race.

SAI is good, clearly, but at non backmarker teams he has very rarely been noticeably better than his teammate. he's consistent and that has a ton of value but at this point i think basically all of the top teams would take LEC over SAI.

Funny, I like Sainz and when you said he was second best my initial reaction was "Pffft. No way..."

Then I started trying to think of who is better other than Max...

    - I started to watch when Hamilton was dominant and he went so long without making any mistakes. Not sure if he has faded or if his car just isn't there.
    - Leclerc actually scores more points/poles, but I can't shake the feeling that Sainz is just a better race day driver for some reason. I'm always on edge for Leclerc to have a mistake
    - Alonso?
    - Norris?

None of them I can say they are better than Sainz, but I feel like he has a lot of equals. Then Max is just on another level. It would be amazing if Australia shows that Ferrari took a step to catch up with Red Bull and we get more battles at the front.

last year Leclerc, Alonso, Norris scored scored higher in WCC than Sainz. Hamilton beat Sainz by 34 points in a much worse car

in 22 Russell and Leclerc beat Sainz (LEC by 62 points)

Sainz is a very good race day driver and will do well the rest of his career. but if i am starting a team i am happy to take the higher upside of someone like LEC or RUS (british version of LEC honestly) or even ALO over Sainz.

i think h2h Sainz gets more out of the Red Bull than Perez. i think he's easily a top ~5 driver with Max, Leclerc, etc. but 2nd? not in my eyes. much closer to 5th than 2nd.

The U.S. user base has been flat or down every month since November 2022, the first full month of Musk’s owning the app, and in total it’s down 23% since then, Sensor Tower said.

The numbers were nearly as bad worldwide, as daily active users on the mobile app fell to 174 million in February, down 15% from a year earlier, the firm said. The worldwide user base has been flat or down every month during Musk’s tenure began except one, when it grew slightly in October and then resumed falling, according to Sensor Tower.

X said in a post Monday that the worldwide number is higher than what Sensor Tower data shows, with 250 million people using X every day globally. That would still be a decrease from when Musk bought the app. Musk said in 2022 that, at about the time he completed the purchase in late October, Twitter had about 258 million “monetizable daily active users,” the company’s metric at the time.

X didn’t respond to a request for additional information.

Advertisers have also left X, Sensor Tower said, with 75 out of the top 100 U.S. advertisers on X from October 2022 having ceased ad spending on it.

Sensor Tower said that, according to its research, X’s revenue from in-app purchases last month was about $9.5 million, including for X subscriptions and payments to creators.

“This still remains just a fraction of revenue that the company was previously generating from advertising in its last year as a public entity,” Yousef wrote. Twitter in July 2022 reported $1.18 billion in revenue for the previous three months.

That has translated into a whopping disparity in downloads, according to a second research firm, Apptopia, based in Boston, which said Threads beat X in downloads worldwide by an 8-to-1 ratio in February.

Downloads were even more lopsided in the U.S. in February, with Threads getting about 16 downloads for every one download of X, Apptopia said.

Dan and Jake's friendship (actually it was TC who struck up the initial friendship with the 2 of them) with Matt Bruenig and Philip Kingston really turned out to be a big factor in their corner.  And I can't help but think that Dan didn't already start piecing this together long before he made the decision to quit.  I don't know whether it's due to being from the Midwest or what, but Dan is fairly well studied in labor issues and has exhibited a keen interest on the subject throughout his time at the Ticket.  For a year or so prior to quitting he spearheaded a number of segments specifically targeting non-competes and issues surrounding the subject.  He'd routinely reference Bruenig on the topic and give  thinly veiled comments that were obviously aimed at Cumulus.

Dan's much sharper than he let's on and despite his demuring to the contrary, he probably  discussed a number of these issues with Bruenig long before they quit. In fact, I specifically remember Dan bringing up the exact NRLB rule that was ultimately the basis for Dan and Jake's complaint with the NRLB against Cumulus in a segment on The Hang Zone.

man you are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overrating Kingston and his impact to the case. notice how much impact he had in the actual trial?

i know this is the case with lawyers in general but Bruenig is very good in his lane and offers less than nothing outside of it

both are also tremendous assholes - which is fine

Gochujang ribs are the second-most-popular protein option after the brisket. The ribs are marinated overnight in a sauce developed by Boo’s brother, then smoked. When an order is placed, Boo takes individual ribs, coats them in more sauce, then browns the surface with a gas torch. (“I’m the torch lady,” she jokes.) They’re finished with a topper of green onions and toasted sesame seeds. The ribs are vibrant, tender, and far more compelling than the traditional pork ribs, which are seasoned too heavily with black pepper.
