  1. IT Q&A answers:

    Spoiler

    Q: Running back-
Did that Cali Juco RB sign with Oklahoma? If yes, can Glass/Kelly contribute as freshmen? I want someone who can handle 8-12 carries a game, but is that back available at the HS level? If not, are we all in on grad transfers? Or do we still need a HS back just to add numbers?

EN: He did sign per 247.

Glass can play immediately for sure. I don't know about Kelly.

They'll take a HS kid and GT if they find one they like.

    /

    Q: QB transfer news?

Apparently football brainiacs has Thompson and Rising looking to go. Maybe Shane too

    Seems ridiculous

EN: I don't really talk about transfers unless I know for sure a guy is going to leave.

I check on these guys often -- I check on everyone really -- and hadn't heard of anything imminent.

    /

Q: I noticed on Wednesday that LHN (when breaking down positions by class) seemed to be under the impression that Demarco Boyd will be on the roster next year. Any update on him?

EN: I don't expect him to be on the roster next year.

poster said that Murphy (the OL from UCLA) has a sister who goes to UT with his son

Wondering if Whittington can be a Ramonce Taylor type player for us (without the off the field issues). Could play some in the backfield and out wide. Know earlier someone targeted Jake Smith in this role, but Whittington has been doing that for Cuero all season. Dude definitely needs to see the field next year (along with Smith). Need explosive plays in this offense.

guessing he is the next guy that runs the Wildcat for us for the next few years?

Sounds like the two "lies" were:

    1) Baylor may still be subject to sanctions (completely plausible considering the investigation is still open), and

    2) Rhule would take a better job if offered (true for damn near every coach ever)

there was some new info on this recently (last 2-3 weeks, right?)

  4. IT Notes:

    Spoiler

Bru McCoy: He could hold off signing, or he could sign later today. At least that's the word I've received. I don't believe he's signed. The play here if he wants things to be kept quiet is to not sign. My most recent intel has me thinking it would be beneficial for Texas if he didn't sign today. The crazy thing here is I feel like the mom is fully on board with Texas. It's almost like Stanford getting Sara Little on board.

Javonne Shepherd: I know many of you are over this one. I'm with you, but have to keep plugging away. Texas is working like crazy to get him. Initially the plan was to wait for NSD2 to sign but Texas went all in to get him in the class on Wednesday. They felt it would benefit him to be able to send him the workouts, meal planning, and playbook. A&M tried to get him too. Shepherd will visit College Station on 1/10, and then he's going to....wait for this...Alabama. I don't *think* he'll go far from home but Alabama is persuasive when they want someone. A&M thinks they're going to flip him. Neither UT or A&M want him anywhere near Tuscaloosa.

    the new info here is:

  5. TFloss on more OL targets

    Spoiler

Coach Hand started following OL grad transfer Justin Murphy from UCLA.

He went to Belton and signed with Texas Tech in 2014.

24/7 claims he's definitely on the staff's radar.

    /

24/7 saying another OL name to watch is Cam'Ron Johnson of Pearland Shadow Creek.

He recently de-committed from Colorado and won't be signing until February.

They can only take a class of 26 from what I can tell.  They have 23 signed with 2 waiting until NSD 2, leaving one spot open.  I guess it all comes down to how they prioritze the reamining three spots.  If they can land Banks, I don't see them passing up on that opportunity.  The other two kids are WDE Braedon Mowry and DT Josh Ellison.  If Shep wants in, he better work something out in a hurry.

this assumes no other guys transitioning out of the program/being grad transfers - right?

Footwork King is steering Shepherd to ATM. Expect them to manufacture drama and then magically sign with ATM on SD2. Not a slam dunk, but this scenario has the strongest odds. Texas wants him, so don’t confuse that part.

When do we Willie Lyles FWK?

...when does the NCAA stop acting like "trainers" are only a problem in basketball?

    FTFY - Hookfin to Texas

Colt Barber started a hashtag of "P2W" and a bunch of baylor folks are tweeting it.

I'm pretty sure its meaning is "pay to win".

I think they are now accusing Texas of paying Hookin. So we've gone from "lying", to "deceiving", to "they are cheating".

of all the players recruited by Texas in the c/o 2019 - why would Texas pick a developmental OT to pay, pay him THE SAME DAY he is set to sign his LOI and then give him another couple of days to wait to sign said LOI?

Nobody has called him a failure but most thought he was going to have a bigger impact on USC's recruiting class.

Not being able to flip McIvor told me a lot about Kingsbury's recruiting ability. If Kingsbury was an elite recruiter flipping somebody like McIvor should be easy money.

Yeah, that statement on it’s own about KK should provide enough evidence that nothing that goober says should be give any credence.

i mean i get it, you expect him to be able to flip that guy. but he was locked in on TTU for a long time and he never even took an OV to USC.

lets not act like this was some huge failure or black mark on him for not being able to flip a dude who may or may not have had any interest in playing at USC and being the Nth guy on the depth chart (and guaranteed to be recruited over in the next 12 months) in who knows what kind of offense over the next few years to one where he knows what Wells is going to run and knows Wells should be there for the next few at the very least.

again, lets not act like not being able to flip a dude in 2 weeks on the job says a ton about him

I think coach bro definitely helps USC but there is a lot of evidence piling up that he's a shit recruiter. Even that Swanson guy was ranting yesterday about how coach bro really hasn't helped that much on the recruiting trail.

what a fucking failure. he couldn't bring them a QB when he was on the job for 2 whole weeks? dude needs to be fired!!!

  12. TFloss on Bru

    Spoiler

On ATH Bru McCoy...his father informed OrangeBloods that the plan currently is to hold off on signing since there's no reason to rush.

At least one small positive working in Texas' favor is while the McCoys are aware that Kingsbury was an excellent hire for USC, they also know there's no guarantee he is there for three or four years because he could leave for another job or Helton could be fired.

There are no doubts with UT's stability and the relationships the family has with Herman, Carrington and Coach Mehringer.

Is there a reason we haven't looked at Frank Okam or Rodrique Wright for dline coach? Are they not there yet as coaches? How do they recruit?

Okam is just an assistant DL coach at Baylor

Wright was at ECU for a year until they hired the guy from JMU and he brought in his own guys - would seem like an ideal guy to bring in if he doesn't have a job elsewhere as an "analyst"?

  14. TFloss:

    Spoiler

Per 24/7, they haven't heard that ATH Bru McCoy signed yesterday but he has been accepted by both Texas and USC.

Coach Mehringer has spoken with the famiy in the last 48 hours and he's still scheduled to announce his decision at the All-American Bowl on January 5th.

    /

Also from 24/7, they expect OL Isaiah Hoofkin of Fort Bend Dulles to sign his LOI before the early signing period ends.

Things are trending positively for Texas, but it isn't a slam dunk.

If you want to know how weird this recruitment is, the Hoofkin family claimed they weren't aware of all the problems Baylor has had in the past.

  15. Wells on Hookfin w/ quotes (SIAP)

    Spoiler

The Sugar Land Dulles OL, who was into Texas for the longest and started thinking Baylor was the move for silly reasons, just told me he’s postponed his signing date/time.

“I just don’t know when I’ll sign right now,” said Hookfin.

When asked if he’s leaning Texas or Baylor, the 6-foot-5, 265-pound tackle said he just doesn’t know yet.

Just another twist and turn in this short, but weird recruitment.

Two sources say Texas is trending here. Herman had a conversation with Hookfin earlier today. It might’ve brought this back to where it once was.

I know no one here likes Glass, so it doesn't matter, but the fact that Saban was visiting Glass when he has to be like Alabama's 50th back up option, and we went 6 months without talking to him when he's apparently one of our top backup options is crazy to me.

Either we really hate Glass and won't even go after him now after missing on Cain, or the staff is not putting the work in. If we try to re-engage Glass in the next few months, it will tell you that it was the latter.

I thought we already had in the last couple of weeks?

    That's why he's the best.

Oh, and they have the best bagmen in college football, which also helps.

also they have been in every conference championship game since 2012, won 2 of the last 3 national championships (and were in the national championship game the other year), and have lost a total of 8 games the last 6 full seasons.

...on top of having the best bagmen.
