To be fair, Rodney Anderson isn't returning. But yeah, much easier road to playing time at Texas.

oh, thanks. i assumed he was based on injury but now after googling see hes headed to the NFL.

    that does change thing somewhat!

  2. TFloss info (SIAP):

    Spoiler

The Football Brainiacs mentioned there is "some increasing optimism" on RB Noah Cain.

However, they weren't specific about what that means other than Cain having connections to the state and UT having made him a priority from the beginning.

    /

On RB Trey Sanders (Nahlin) : "Just heard he applied to all four schools: Bama, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Originally he had only applied to Bama. "

    /

Holland from 24/7 said OL Isaiah Hoofkin is 70% to Texas right now if he had to put a number on it.

He still hasn't heard anything from the Baylor side that makes him believe they have the lead.

    /

Per Inside Texas, WR Kennedy Lewis of Melissa will be committing at 1 p.m. CST 12/18

    /

Higgins commits at 7p on 12/18

    /

Per 24/7, RB Noah Cain is truly torn on what he wants to do and playing closer to home (his mother is in Dallas, played at Denton Guyer) is weighing on him.

The way we currently utilize our nickel, I don't think Jamison can hold up in the run game

Brown probably can't cover slot receivers down the field well enough

Thompson makes the most sense. If he gets hurt, then it might have to be Sterns or maybe Cook

so same reason as Foster is unlikely to be there...

covering all DBs on the roster currently:

    • Thompson = nickel guy?
    • Cook, Green, Boyce = outside CBs
    • Foster, Brown, Overshown (covering all the bases here) = can't cover slot guys downfield
    • Jones, Sterns = more important in a different role, even if they can cover those guys downfield
    • Jamison = offense? can he handle the run requirements?
    • Duvernay, Estell = ???

    incoming recruits:

    • Caldwell, Watson II = outside CB
    • Owens = safety?
    • Adimora = potentially an option?

Despite being in one of the hottest recruiting battles in the country - he didn't decommit from Appalachian State until today.

i mean, it isn't like they are going to push him out on the 0.01% chance he stays with them?

Who do we think is playing nickel over him?

Nickel guys on the depth chart:

    • Thompson
    • Jamison? (maybe?)

Green, Cook, Boyce are outside guys I think?

that's kind of the issue and why Catalon is important? evidently they think he can play there (per IT guys IIRC)

It's now a site for two people, one of whom is paid to post, to have inane, once or twice a day conversations. Or the paid contributor posts YouTube clips or articles he's seen online. 7. IT comments

    Spoiler

Any word on Ojomo + Woodard, and whether Tyler Johnson will be enrolling early?

EN: I’ve heard Johnson is enrolling early per a coach of his.

Haven’t heard back on those guys. If we don’t write something it’s because we’re still working on it.

    /

Any names of RB’s that will pop up post NSD1 besides glass?

EN: Haven’t heard any yet. They’ve felt confident they’ll get one of the five they like. Not sure who is up after that. I’m sure that’s something they’ll work on during the dead period should they need to.

    /

How much will Texas baseball impact Catalon's decision? Did he get to meet with Coach David Pierce on his OV?

EN: Baseball was a nice ‘in’ and differentiator for Naivar to build a relationship with him but it has no impact on his choice.

JW: Not too much. He’s met Pierce multiple times. It was more flattering than reality.

    /

What is the biggest recruiting shock to date (that Texas landing Sanders would eclipse)? Chris Simms? Shiro Davis?

EN: Since I’ve been doing this Shiro.

JN: Since I’ve paid close attention, Chris Simms.

Rhamondre Stevenson received a USC offer.

he goes to school about 30 min away from the USC campus, listed USC a "warm" on his interest level (despite not having an offer until now) and is a target at RB

if you don't think him getting a USC offer is relevant, you must not be paying much (any) attention

  10. TFloss update

    Spoiler

JUCO RB Rhamondre Stevenson told The Football Brainiacs he will be visiting OU this weekend.

Good news for Texas since they're bringing him in for a January visit and they'll know what Cain and Sanders are doing by that time.

    /

other poster there: Well, he actually direct messaged me when both of us were down to Texas and USC. We kind of shared our thoughts. He asked me which school I was leaning towards, and I told him Texas. He told me he was leaning USC. We were going to do a joint commitment video, but that’s why we didn’t end up doing it.I saw him on his official visit for the Texas-USC game, and I think it all changed there. I have a feeling he might be leaning Texas at this point.

He 1 kick return for 10 yards in 3 games.  That's an average of 3.33(bar) yards per game.

evidently Hemphill-Mapps only played in 3 games (0 catches) and only returned a kick in their last game of the year

he isn't listed as having a number on their roster

evidently he had committed to Syracuse but it fell apart (long thread here) - either he was asked to hold off on committing or he asked them to hold off on it?

    whole thing looks weird

  12. TFloss data dump:

    Spoiler

24/7 reporting QB Roschon Johnson, LB De'Gabriel Floyd and ATH Jordan Whittington will officially visit UT this weekend.

Whittington and Cuero are still in the playoffs, so his visit could depend on that.

    ///

Quotes from JUCO OL Jay Williams of El Cajon, CA after his official visit to UT over the weekend (24/7):

“It was great,” Williams said. “I really enjoyed it. My favorite parts were spending time with the players and getting to know the coaching staff, especially Coach (Herb) Hand and Jake Langi. Coach Hand is an overall great guy and great coach.”

“He (Coach Hand) told me exactly who he was as a man and as a coach, and when I asked his players about him, they said word per word the exact same thing,” Williams said. “His players said that he treats them like they are his own kids and at the same time gets after them, pushes them and holds them to a high standard just as he would with his own kids as well."

“Any coach can tell you they care about their players but just from spending a weekend with him, I can tell that he’s exactly who he says he is. He’s someone I know that can help me become a better football player, better man and give me the tools to be a great person in society.”

“What stood out to me and was most important is the relationship the coaches have with the players and vice versa,” Williams said. “The coaches understand that football isn’t forever, and they’re doing more than just preparing you for the NFL. They are trying to prepare you for life after football as well."

“The players are great people who are very driven as well. I spent most of my time with them, and I felt like I knew them for months. I guess that’s what southern hospitality is like. Even the seniors and older guys I met were great as well. The fan base is amazing, and they show big support as well as the student body.”

Did I miss something in the recent news about Cain? It was Texas and Georgia. Now Sanders likes Georgia? This should help us with Cain but now Penn State had a good shot at Cain?

    What happened to our chances?

he was Fong'd to Penn St recently (I posted his comment upthread somewhere)

As a single data point, sure I agree.  But I think it's worth revisiting when you look at his struggles on the trail this year.

the guy took literally 1 non Texas official visit or non official visit per his 247 profile. only took 1 in home visit that wasn't Texas.

had offers from LSU, USC, FSU, Georgia, Auburn and didn't OV any of those places.

hate on him for legit things, this isn't one of them.

He's got a hell of a resume, but at some point we need to consider the fact that maybe he's not a very good recruiter.  Even last year, his one target ended up taking an OV to aggy the weekend before signing day.

he has shortcomings, but putting him on blast for a guy taking an OV somewhere is not a good reason.
