  1. Lol, right now I'm sewing up a cap out of wool broadcloth using proper nineteenth century materials to make something that might be reasonably historically accurate, but I'm kind of making up the pattern as I go and not following any known nineteenth century patterns. But it will keep my head warm while I'm hunting with my muzzleloaders like my ancestors did 200 years ago. So maybe I'll give you a run for your money.

  2. So my EDC knife needs sharpening pretty bad, but I was in a hurry last weekend when I was going hunting, so I just grabbed a knife that had a pretty good edge out of the box of knives I got from my grandfather when he passed away and slipped it in my pocket. Well, last night I was laying on the couch and it fell out of my pocket, so I looked it up. Apparently I've been just casually carrying around quite a collectible.

  3. According to the data from 2007 published by the USDA, 45.9% of the beef supply came from operations with fewer than 100 cows. 5.3% of operations with 1 to 49 head and 24.1% of operations with 50-100 head were operated as a primary source of income. 71.9% of all operations were operated as supplemental income.

  4. Solid first episode.

It's a crying shame that he fired off three shots from that Colt dragoon and then swam a river without likely having a good chance to clean it. That pretty much ruins that gun. Gotta laugh at how he is crack shot at swift draw and from a galloping horse despite probably never having a chance to practice. And also the unnecessary rocks in the chinking in the slave cabin.  Artistic liberties I guess, but come on.

Still a good show so far and hopefully they don't amp up the ridiculousness.

  5. If your gonna tour Africa and spend some time in Kenya, you should take up a tour of Kibera. It's the largest slum in the continent. You really can't get a sense of Africa without seeing what makes it Africa.

So, things I ponder on when I am drunk.  Shit hits the fan situation, why would a quality 8 inch chef's knife not be a perfectly fine blade to carry?  Assuming you could get a sheath, etc.  I mean, my Wusthof Classic is finely balanced and razor sharp.

The modern chef's knife is pretty much the same as the knives that were carried by folks on the frontier back in the colonial days. If it worked for them,  I don't see why it wouldn't work now.

  7. If you make it to Senegal, you should check out the village of Kayar. It's just up the coast North of Dakar. It's a fishing village full of brightly painted boats that they push out every morning to fish in. Something you won't likely see I'm the rest of the continent.

I think they have a hotel or two there. It is worth the trip if you hit up Dakar. There were a few backpackers staying there when I was there and surfing, but this was back in 2006.

The Benchmade 710  was the best EDC knife u ever had, but I lost it years ago. Anybody know of a similar knife that doesn't break the bank? The closest I've found is the Benchmade Crooked River, but I'd like to find something cheaper.
