  1. Having conviction in his beliefs is a lot more admirable than going against his beliefs for money. Not everyone can be bought. It is also comical that there are 60million or more people in this country that aren’t vaccinated and you choose to spout off about this single person. Let him retire. At least he can do it knowing his own conscious is clear and maybe he’ll be able to sleep easy at night. There are a ton of people (vaccinated or not) in this country that can’t do the same because they are a whore for the dollar bill. I never said good for society. I said good for kyrie. It’s ok to be wrong and it’s ok to disagree with someone’s beliefs. Kyrie is going to sleep in the bed he made for himself and that is respectable. Far more respectable than trying to divert criticism or wiggle out of his beliefs once the hammer is dropped on him.
  2. Good for kyrie for putting his money where his mouth is, regardless if anyone agrees. And damn good for the nets for doing the same with their franchise values. Kyrie is going to come out better than the nets it would seem though. He can sit out. Then opt out next year if he can find another big contract with a team willing to deal with his issues. Ive also read this is the exact reason the nets got harden. They wanted a super team regardless of kyries antics. Good planning on their part. With Simmons just randomly showing up in philly without anyone knowing is there any question this is the best off-season in sports?
  3. Does anyone else look at the rankings and think there is no chance in hell cincy gets in? They could win every game by 50 and at least 2 teams behind them will finish ahead of them.
  4. Typical. Don’t ruin the superstar lifestyle. Let’s change the rules for the elite.
  5. The nets already have harden and KD to stop the ball. They don’t need kyrie to do the same and Simmons won’t shoot if he’s wide open. A pass first point guard that defends 3-4 positions might be better for them than a scoring point that is only going to play 41 games at most this year and miss just under half the playoffs (the entire finals if against a CA team not named the kings). If kyrie end up in Philly he only misses 6 games during the season against the conference and then a few games out west. I’m not saying Simmons and kyrie are equal players from a basketball standpoint but the trade off from a talent, need, and availability standpoint makes more sense to me than getting a CJ or maybe even the rumored brogden/lavert trade option. I would think the nets would jump at something like this and maybe the sixers would be reluctant because of not having an all star player against conference foes for every playoff game. But if they can find a good backup it might be worth it as the sixers could win enough to possibly have home court against the nets should they meet in the playoffs. Then it’s about taking care of business at home.
  6. I honestly can't believe we haven't seen something of a rumor between Kyrie and Simmons being swapped. That makes both teams better an theoretically could be done with very little draft pick compensation though the sixers might want a pick or two because of Kyrie only having 2 years on his contract while simmons has 4 and Kyrie would miss approximately 6 divisional games depending on how rules shake out. I know I'm an idiot but can someone tell me why this isn't talked about at all? The nets would never face Kyrie in the regular season at home nor in the playoffs. I just think it's a home run if the nets are worried about his status at all.
  7. I can’t be the only one who thinks being 280 pounds is too much even for his frame given the way he uses it right? I’d like to see how he injured the foot. Did he roll an ankle and it break? Get stepped on? If it was just running and jumping in normal basketball then I don’t think this bodes well for his long term health and stability in the league. Might be time to get down to 250 and see how things work out.
  8. This has probably been answered before but does a max contract work on dollar figures or percentage of cap space? If dollars, a max contract now might be a 40% discount with the next media deal.
  9. Where did I say MRNA vaccines were developed in 6 months? THIS MRNA VACCINE WAS DEVELOPED IN LESS THAN A YEAR. Just because a vaccine fits inside a certain category of vaccine doesn’t mean it gets automatic approval because another vaccine that is similar got approval. but I agree. Let’s just stop talking about it and get back to basketball.
  10. And now we have decades of data and that vaccine has continued to be proven safe over the long haul.
  11. Can you show me the data on what the long term side effects might be? Let’s just use a number in the future. Say... 3 year side effects? I never stated that billions haven’t been vaccinated and volume doesn’t equate to time. Not one of the 3.8billion people have had the vaccination for more than 12 months. We built billions of square feet of buildings with asbestos only to realize that was a bad idea years down the line. Also, I never stated “covid isn’t real”. The shifting of the scope of the argument doesn’t make one party more right than the other. I’ll state once again, you don’t have to like their position but if you can’t understand their position (I don’t) then maybe that says more about you than them.
  12. You have to understand that a vaccine that was developed in 6 months could warrant some hesitancy over a vaccine that was developed 60 years ago and has had trials upon trials upon trials. You can be pro-vaccine and understand that we still don’t know the long term ramifications of this vaccine because we literally haven’t had time to do long term studies. Here is the process according to the FDA: 1. Animal trials in preclinical research. That is reviewed by the FDA before human testing even starts. According to the FDA 1 of about 1000 compounds make it past this stage. 2. Phase 1 clinical trials. 20-80 healthy volunteers are tested and monitored over the course of 1 year. 3. Phase 2. 100-300 patients with the specific disease are tested and monitored. This runs about 2 years. Placebos and blind studies are used. 4. Phase 3. Thousands of patients are monitored to review side effects of the medicine. This phase has all types of patients and takes 3 years. 5. A new drug application is put together consisting of thousands of pages of research and process. The FDA has 60 days to decide if they will CONTINUE to review the application. They FDA reviews manufacturing plants and processes at Thai time. According to the FDA this is a 12-15 year process and the original volunteers could begin to show adverse long term effects that halt the entire approval process. If you can’t see why some young, healthy, low risk individuals might be hesitant to get a vaccine that literally hasn’t had time to go through established scientific processes and protocols for safety then are you making it politics or are they? No one that is hesitant has said anything about politics, only you have. I’m pro vaccine for the record. I’ll edit to add that kyrie might have. He’s an idiot.
  13. I’m talking more about mechanics. The Union would protect the players rights as they are obligated to do by definition. If they didn’t then the player has beef with the Union. Given the player can fulfill their contract in basically every city but a handful I think that the Union would have to protect the player. it would be interesting to see which cities are mandating for venues as I don’t believe there is anything official “final final” from the feds at this moment.
  14. Wouldn’t it be the NBAPA that would file suit? They are there to protect all players regardless of their thoughts or feelings or health records. It would be a massive issue that even if won in court by the league wouldn’t necessarily keep a lockout or strike from happening. Union going to Union right? And then if the Union doesn’t protect the minority of their members don’t the members then file suit against the Union? Need a labor law dog on this.
  15. You start to count wins on the schedule and if they play at their peak you get 5. More likely 3 if thing bounce the right way at home.
  16. Heard on pre-cup coverage that out of 12 players the US uses 8 different balls so it’s definitely unusual for some of the guys in that regard.
  17. I haven't heard anything since the announcement of mandating employers so do we know if it has actually made it into a regulatory body's actual policy? If not, maybe his team is keen to that? Having a press conference about what you want to do doesn't make something a law or regulation, putting it on paper and enforcing it does. If they haven't made it a regulation yet then the warriors probably don't have much standing right? Kind of a side note, we had this discussion in the office today as a friend is being fired for not getting vaccinated. She works for a 15 man PE shop. She wants to fight them and file a lawsuit but I made the point that unlike pregnant women, minorities, LGTBQ, etc. being unvaccinated isn't an explicitly protected class of people. I asked her if this was the hill she wanted to die on and then read some of her attorney's emails about Nuremberg and couldn't help but role my eyes. It seems to me that the SCOTUS has already ruled that vaccine mandates are OK. Further, I think the more fruitful argument would be to tell them you are vaccinated and then when they ask for proof make the case that an employer has no right to ask for it. Then when it comes up in court that you lied you get fired for cause anyway. Once again, doesn't seem like the hill to die on.
  18. Wiggins is going to be cheap in 3 years when the new media deal is done. I also don’t have love for Wiggins even though he is a KU guy. His heart just isn’t in the game. But maybe playing with embiid, who he played with at KU, could light a fire under him? I still don’t like the move and think it is just shuffling pieces to shuffle pieces and no one gets better out of it.
  19. I think trading dray is a trade he makes you regret honestly. And if it doesn’t go well you expedite the break up of the franchise. That being said, the franchise might be 2-3 years away anyway with multiple teams standing in the way in the west so maybe just get on with it? The warriors also aren’t afraid of experimentation so maybe they make the move. They certainly shouldn’t if they have to give away draft capital though. My thought is the knicks... they could trade rose and Fournier straight up and pair Simmons with randle and kemba. They also have a lot of draft picks between now and 2026 though most are 2nd rounders and protected. I think there are some restrictions on rose but maybe there is a way around it? That could make both teams better.
  20. But if he can’t accept anything less than a coddled superstar socialite role then why would he ever accept arguably underpaid 3rd man of a big 3 but 4-5th scoring option role? Further, if that is the plan, to replace draymond, don’t you think draymond has the potential to become the most toxic player in the league? Dray still has up to 4 years on his contract and he is ego driven enough to fuck things up just as bad as Simmons if his role is threatened. It just doesn’t make sense to me and you don’t need him and Simmons on the court at the same time. once again, the warriors haven’t proven to have a broken system yet. Why bring in a bigger diva (don’t get me wrong, dray is a diva but one that cares about winning and not celeb status) to replace a real locker room leader? Unless Kerr feels insecure there isn’t really a reason to blow things up for another year or two.
  21. Seriously... where in the world does he fit on the warriors? They going to make him the next igoudala? Dump Wiggins and maybe wiseman for him? I get that the warriors like to experiment and would be fine with him on the roster, but they will also be fine without him on the roster. Why fix something that hasn’t proven to be broken unless they really think taking the ball out of curry’s hands is the future of their franchise.
  22. Simmons is still owed on 4 years. If the owners get 1 thing in the next CBA they need to get a rule that states if a player sits out they don’t count against the salary cap. Even better would be the option to terminate the contract while retaining rights for a year or two if the player just says “I won’t play here anymore.” It will never come close to happening but the 76ers should just say “ok”. Then fine him the entire amount of his contract and sit him on moth balls for 4 years. Then he can play for $4M his first year back at age 29-30. That being said, I’ve read/heard that Simmons just doesn’t really LOVE basketball (like Wiggins). Maybe he got his $56M thus far and is at the point where he is only going to play 100% under his terms and conditions or he will step away. The situation is a mess.
  23. Herman to USC and Sark to UT. Strange fucking times we live in when two crap coaches effectively swap preeminent jobs. Maybe they’ll meet at the Idaho potatoes bowl in a winner take all to go 8-5!
  24. According to salary.com the cost of living is 57.8% higher in LA than in cincy. This appears to be inclusive of all taxes, including income, sales, property, etc. doubling his salary doesn’t move the needle from what I’m seeing based on 2.75 minutes of really basic research.
  25. Does blue blood status live forever? In 50 years (assuming the game continues that long) will Meatchicken and UT still be considered blue bloods if neither has won or even sniffed another championship? I can only speak from a basketball standpoint obviously but the rules are basically this in the modern era: 1. If you aren’t a blue blood you cannot become a blue blood. No one believes Michigan state is a blue blood. 2. You don’t need to win championships to be a blue blood but you need to win a lot of games and 90+% of the time be at the top of your conference. 3. If #2 doesn’t happen for an extended period of time you go “dormant” and many people will not consider you a blue blood at the moment. This can be turned around with one championship/final 4 season followed by a few more years of consistent success but you will be teetering on the edge for years until you show CONTINUITY within the program. in general, I’d say continuity is the best way to maintain blue blood status. A revolving door of coaching and inconsistent talent level on the roster will diminish your status in the public’s mind. 4. The media will always consider a blue blood a blue blood because the media deals in wonder of the past and not the reality of now. Indiana basketball was in the verge of being back in the early 00’s but is a dormant blue blood still.
