  1. The Franklin contract screams “we don’t really want to keep you here but we don’t want to do a cos ch big search”. His buyout goes to 8M in 2023 which is affordable. His 10 year deal and 1M raise bring him to market (the new market) and are just enough to keep him from signing a new deal somewhere else. PSU just doesn’t want to be the one who has to hire someone after all of the bigger names took their pick. If he produces big in the next year or two they look like geniuses. If he doesn’t it is cheaper than what KU is paying Charlie weis to be fired.
  2. So because he didn’t play nice with the donors he wasn’t a 12 win coach? Seems like the donors should have played nicer with him when he won 10 games after the abortion Charlie laid in the locker room. Maybe the cause of the problem wasn’t the dickhead coach it was the controlling donors?? Saban doesn’t take shit from anyone. If he came to UT and lost for 2 out of 4 years the donors would want him out too.. right? Maybe saban shouldn’t be a dick or he would win 12 out of 12 championships??? Is that how it works?
  3. You've been playing football since 1893 and you've had 31 head coaches. Michigan has had 17 in the same amount of time. OSU has had 23 in that same amount of time. bama has had 26. USC has had 25 including some more than 1 "interim" but also including 8 years without a coach. One head coach or 2 head coaches don't turn you into a blue blood unless they are there for 40 years like JoePa (fucking dick fucker) was. It is about sustained success and that's why I took your one and maybe borderline second outlier out of the equation. In fact, I could argue that texas under herman was right where it should have been based on both win percentage and based on coaching tenure... Including all of your coaches the average tenure is 4.13 years. Was never trying to insult anyone per se, just trying to draw comparisons. For the record, since 1898 KU has had 8 total head coaches in basketball. If we take out our most successful coaches we still look good. If we take out Phog Allen, then we are taking out Adolph Rupp from UK, Dean Smith of UNC, Larry Brown of UCLA/SMU/KU, Roy Williams of UNC/UK, and John Calipari of UMASS/Memphis/UK when you look at the college ranks. You can take some of our coaches and it either doesn't effect the whole or it destroys every other blue blood program. That's basically what I hang onto as a lower tier blue blood fan.
  4. This is where I’m at with KU. We are going to be the winningest program of all time by the end of the year in basketball. But that is just one of about 3 factors that make us a blue blood. The other two; James Naismith (who actually invented the game in Massachusetts and not at KU) is arguably one and phog Allen (the father of basketball coaching) is the other. I’d argue we have 2 reasons we are a blue blood. All time wins (not by percentage) and Phog. Now you start comparing yourself against other blue bloods and we don’t stack up with only 3 NCAA titles. It’s the reason I tell myself every year that only 1 team wins it’s last game and that the tourney is a crapshoot. At the end of the day, KU basketball and UT football are reasonably similar in regard to comparing ourselves with other blue bloods.
  5. How can TCU possibly be that bad? There is no reason they shouldn't be a tourney team at least half the time. By my look, in what will be the 10th year of being in the big12 TCU has gone to the tourney exactly 1 time and doesn't look to be going this year. They should be able to recruit 3* guys in their own backyard and get the job done.
  6. I know you guys don't want to hear this, and it might even take you out of the "blue blood" category if you took these two coaches out of the equation but.... If you believe UT is a blue blood without DKR and Mack, and remove them from the record book at UT, Herman is right in line with what UT historically does from a winning percentage standpoint. If you leave DKR in the equation Herman is only 3% less on his win% than what UT historically has done. In the basketball world we don't believe that a blue blood can be created, especially not after the turn of the century. So I'd argue that Herman might have failed to be what you wanted him to be but he isn't a failure in the classical sense of UT football. Herman will end up with a job at some point (maybe he should look at SMU) and he will do just fine... Unless he goes full Sumlin.
  7. KU made Shaka millions by being able to hit even just 40% from the field in the 2011 tourney. That Marquette game wasn't as close as the final score of them losing by 16. Less than 2 minutes left and St. Bonnie calls a timeout up 25 to put in their bench... Shaka gets pissed, yells at the Bonnie coach and decides to full court press with his starters in the rest of the game. What an insecure piece of shit. Congrats St. Bonnie. One team I don't want to see in March.
  8. Patterson should publicly ask SMU if they need help on the coaching staff.
  9. I am so fucking glad that KU didn't wait to hire until after this season. We'd end up with another David Beaty.
  10. UNC sucks and Davis is going to run them into the ground. Can’t wait.
  11. In Tulsa that’s called new money.
  12. The money is one thing, but I also think OU becomes a team that averages 2-3 losses a year depending on scheduling. They’ll have 1 out of 5 years where they have a special year and make the championship game and compete on a national stage. At LSU they have the ability to cut that from 1/5 to 1/2-3 depending on how the schedules work out. He doesn’t need to leave the state to recruit and he is getting paid huge dollars. That being said, OU and UT are moving to the SEC for money. Which means they’ll have more of it. If they get $40M+ more a year then carving off 5M more for the coach really isn’t a problem. The head football coaches at OU are really the reason why the athletic department even has the opportunity to get the SEC money. If OU didn’t match LSU I would be absolutely shocked.
  13. Don’t forget the 4 failures that came before lance leipold. Our bottom is 0 wins. UT might be at the bottom but at least it’s 4 wins and likely only 4 wins over 1 season. We’ve had less than 4 cumulative wins over 3 seasons. We have paid our dues for during the fat man. UT will be lucky to get the next hire right (probably should have kept Herman knowing what the grass looks like on this side of the fence).
  14. You’re correct. I phrased that badly. TCU should hire Martin once he gets canned and the shine of Jamie Dixon (who shines like hammered shit) wears off.
  15. He had 1 or 2 fringe nba guys on the team. Which just shows you that basketball is a fickle bitch compared to football. Always liked Martin and always felt like KSU shot themselves in the foot not giving him anything he ever dreamed of. He’ll be back in the “big time” again soon. Likely somewhere like TCU once they get tired of the cellar and fire Dixon.
  16. You do realize that we are in the arguments process of the IARP investigation right? And you can literally see a timeline of events on the IARP website. The investigation has concluded. We are arguing against its findings. We have 5 level 1 violations levied against us. The most of any school, including Louisville. If we get out of this unscathed then the NCAA administrative leadership (not the schools) should just all disband and quit their jobs as they will have so grossly missed the mark on allegations against KU they would have to question their belief in god.
  17. I think K selected scheyer because he has the best temperament of anyone in the tree. Hurley is too whiny. Scheyer might be a bitch but he hasn’t shown anything but class on the sideline. I also agree on duke having more patience. I think Hubert will be gone with 2 missed tourneys or 3 early exits. Then I bet they turn to jerrod haase because of the Carolina way isn’t foreign to haase. At that point they’re just looking for anyone that knows where the bodies are buried and is interested in keeping them buried. As much fun as I had blasting Quin while he was at mizzou, he is probably a top 5 coach in the NBA and has seemingly atoned for his sins. No chance he comes back to college unless his fortunes turn bigly in Utah.
  18. I am very worried about KU. Everyone says we’ll skate and we are already legally posturing to attack the NCAA but my thought is we’ll get hit at the most inopportune time. Right before the postseason 2022. We are loaded with talent. A legitimate contender. Our investigation is supposedly going to be wrapping up in the spring. If war with Kansas is imminent the NCAA will likely hand down our bans in March, giving us exactly zero time to get them in court to have them overturned before we lose a postseason. We might win overall and be able to keep bill self but we are absolutely going to take some damage along the way if the NCAA really wants to be vindictive, which I believe they will be. Not sure if I mentioned it here but much of the “hard” evidence about KU is kurtis Townsend texting adidas that we need to make a strong ass offer in regards to Zion. Which would make him ineligible. Grant Hill of duke fame is one of the judges against KU. If he rules that we are guilty then isn’t he ruling that duke is guilty? Why is the competition for our recruits judging our outcome. Nothing smells right to me on this deal and I can see Self battling for his career and I can see KU getting multiple postseason bans. At the end of the day, we are the lowest hanging fruit of the blue bloods. If you’re going to say “see, we punish blue bloods too” you’re going to punish Kansas.
  19. Who do you guys think ends up a better program in year 4 once scheyer takes over? Duke or year 4 UNC with Hubert?
  20. Oates would be my first choice if we lost self. Once K is gone I don’t know if you’ll be able to name a better coach in the NCAA than Self. What is the mechanism to offload Cal? Pay him for the rest of his life?
  21. @Underdog KU is only 4 games back for the all time wins record and we’ve got an experienced and deep team this year. I think we take the record by the end of the year. What are your thoughts?? Kick some K ass on Tuesday.
  22. Crazy thing is if play like we did against OU I actually think we win. We’re pretty bad tho.
