  1. If you are thinking backpacking rather than day hiking, it would also be worth looking at the Oachita trail, which starts in eastern OK.   Not much further of a drive from DFW and very pretty in the fall.  A very different landscape than the Wichitas though . . . and not as much cool wildlife.

  2. The Charon's Garden area of the Wichita's has solid hiking.   The de facto place to eat in the area is probably Meers.

BTW, the nearest town is Lawton, which is considered a complete shit hole . . . even by Oklahoma standards

  3. I watched Winter on Fire last night based on this thread.

Really interesting to see Putin's strategy of keeping the Ukraine from the EU and then to think about how that compares to Brexit and our own current situation in the US (trade wars, Nato, etc.).  Pretty consistent strategy for weakening the west.  Also, I went from hoping Manafort flips on Trump to hoping they throw everything they can at Manafort. No mercy for that guy.

  4. I will admit to having eaten bbq in London on multiple occasions while studying abroad . . . there used to be a KC style bbq place where expats would congregate to watch college football.  Not something I would do if visiting though.  On future trips to London I plan to just eat Indian food at every opportunity.

i wouldn't say it's likely, as he's still young; he just has an uphill battle that requires a lot of health and success before he looks like a viable player for us again. that said his composure on the ball and first touch are things that this team has sorely lacked ever since i can remember, so i hope he can get it together and become a serviceable deep lying mf for us.

I hope Zelalem goes out on loan this year.  Glad to see him up and running again, but there seem to be a lot of other young guys ahead of him in the pecking order in the Arsenal midfield. Not a lot of playing time in his future if he stays . . . even in meaningless cup games.

    This seems like sound advise.

I am not at the point of tying my own flies yet.   But it does interest me.  I have watched a few videos on various ties but I am not committed enough to start buying the tie gear.

Its fun, even if you never get really good at it.  Definitely start with Clousers.  They are relatively easy to tie. Once you learn a basic Clouser, there are a ton of different variations/materials/color combinations you can experiment with. And its a pattern that will reliably catch bass and any Texas saltwater fish.

For bass in tanks, I like to use divers.  I either buy dahlberg divers (too much of a pain to tie) or tie something similar with a foam body.    The Lunch Money is another bass fly worth checking out (created by a bass fisherman in Austin for central tx waters).

  7. Levon has to be one of the coolest dudes ever, so he gets my vote.

Always loved the drums on Blonde on Blonde (had to look up the drummer . . . Kenny Buttrey).

  8. This was Putin's 1936 Olympics.  Numerous media outlets bought it and are talking about how surprisingly pleasant the host country was.   The American president is doing everything possible to legitimize Russia as a world power.  From a PR perspective, this is not a convenient time to be imprisoning young girls.  15 days is probably a smart move.

  9. My guess is that this asshat regularly strutted around Stillwater in OU gear, occasionally someone commented on it, and in his head that translates to an OU obsession.

When we start putting upside down OU stickers on our car, then we can talk about an obsession . . .

  10. Do the Devil's.  There are portions of the river already lined with vacation homes but still a lot of parts that feel really wild.  I have to think the whole thing will be less wild in the future.  As someone mentioned up thread, if you put this off another 5 years the river may not be the same.

If flows are really low that time of year, you can do a float starting out at Del Norte, which cuts out a lot of the areas where you would have to drag the kayak.

  11. Not the flashiest signings, but seem to be smart moves.  I really hope Torriera pans out . . . we have been wondering in the wasteland without a defensive mid for a decade now.

  12. Not sure how old your kids are, but my main recommendation is just to get out of the car and do some hiking.  99% of the people in Yellowstone are too lazy to leave their vehicles.  Many of the hiking trails are surprisingly empty.

  13. Super interesting and a bit surprising.  I have only met Aaron once, but he seemed like a really nice guy who would be good to work for.  Hope you are right about an improved Stiles Switch.   I eat there more than any other bbq place in Austin simply based on proximity to my house and it being open for dinner, but the brisket is definitely not consistent.
