Heading there in 3 weeks, really hoping weather is tolerable, seems every hour is a coin flip. Will have a baby in tow so I’m thinking a rental car is probably the better play (Airbnb has parking) in case weather is shit and want to get around

Parking is not something you're going to be able to rely on. The surface lots and garages are plentiful but not cheap and probably won't put you that close to your destination. Uber is a good option but also not cheap. Bring a poncho for the baby.

  2. I spent the week in the city for work. Some stressful workdays but man I really do love Chicago. I kind of think I want to spend some time living downtown when I retire.

We went to a late lunch on Wednesday and the closest place was Nancy's. We were supposed to meet another colleague for dinner around 6. My team decided they wanted to order a deep dish. They are my age ish. I guess they don't understand carbs. I got a salad with grilled chicken. I texted them at 5:45 to tell them our colleague couldn't make it and every person who ate that glorious stuffed pizza from Nancy's peaced out for the night.

I stayed in, despite the salad, but by last night I couldn't take it anymore and ordered a small stuffed from Nancy's. I had to force myself to eat the 2nd piece and a part of me died knowing that the other two pieces were going to waste but mannnn..... It was delicious.

Good week in the best big city in the country.

The Suns are somehow not playing like complete fucking dogshit tonight.

    I wonder if it's replicable.

I haven't watched the Raps all year until the other night. Where did this dude Orlando Robinson come from? He is big, athletic, very active, has handles, can pass it, and a good rebounder.

good game baboon, it came down to the very end, can’t ask for much more. good luck to the two finalists, i believe this means we’ll have a first time champion? is that right?

If @mojo wins yes. I won it the year before last. Btw I checked my stats vs mojo for this past period. He would have won by a couple of categories but man nearly every single category would have been within single digits outside of rebounds. Hopefully it will be as close and as fun as this semifinal was.

  5. That is insane. I got very lucky. At one point when steals was tied Naz Reid turned the ball over when Filipowski was guarding him and the ball wound up in Filipowski's hands and a whistle blew for a foul on Reid. Loose ball foul a millisecond before possession. And then it turned into a blowout and Gobert sat for the entire 4th. You figure Utah is going to play Filipowski for the rest of the game and they were, until he pulled up hobbled with like 4 minutes left. I would have lost the tiebreaker, too. GG Derka. It was entertaining and I really thought you were going to run away with it with your lineup today.

this might be kinda drastic, but should we consider moving the playoffs up by like a month? every time i get this far its like i compete in the playoffs with an entirely different roster then the one that got ke there. so many late season injuries and then people resting and preparing for the playoffs. not really sure what to do about it.

Your injuries this year seem like real injuries and not just end of year bullshit. There is definitely some end of year bs starting to creep in but not to the point we need to move the playoffs back an entire month imo. I was still figuring my team and lineup out a month ago. Moving it back a week or two would be less extreme but I'm not sure it's necessary? What do others think?

Your math is a season off. 2020 was cancelled. 21, 22, 23, 24 is four seasons. 25 is this season.

You're right, I missed 2020-21. And that was a crappy year. Lost in the play in to UCLA. Selective memory.

That freshman class turned out to be a pretty big stinker, contributing to the lack of success the next 3 seasons.

Uh, that's some wild hyperbole considering the other teams in college basketball that year and the fact that that MSU team barely escaped the regular season without double digit losses.

Right it was tongue in cheek, but the point being one of the 4 years that are being cited as down years did not have a tournament and that team was absolutely rolling and getting their shit together at the right time. And the year prior they were in the final four. So we are talking about 3 down years, all of which they made the tournament and won at least a game, and one of which they made the 2nd weekend, and none of which they lost to a lower seed. Not bad for down years.

Career-wise, Izzo is a notch or two below K, Roy Williams, Self, etc...I am by no means belittling his body of work.  I do take issue with the whole "Izzo magic" at this point given the recent history.  Yeah he can throw together a great team every once in awhile, but outside of those outliers, it seems like he's lost his fastball in terms of getting more out of less.

That's totally fair, especially given the context of the past few years but I'm also old enough to remember when many counted him out as a one class/period wonder in 2003 because they hadn't made a run since the Flintstone/JRich class, and again in '08, '12, you name it. A 3-4 year gap in between final four runs is a crisis at Michigan State it seems. It also seems like 98 percent of the other D1 college basketball programs would be pretty happy to inherit that problem. I don't think he's washed just yet, and even if if he was, I'm the type that is of the mindset that he can go out however he wants. Absolute legend.

Yes they did, after 4 years of pure mediocrity.  Izzo didn't earn his rep being above average once every five years (and we've yet to see how the 1 plays out in the postseason).  Maybe that would be fine if he were starting out and building MSU from rock bottom, but they're supposed to be a tier or two below perennial contenders, not one year out of five look like a team that should make it past the round of 32.

He had a bad couple of classes. It happens. 30 years, 11 conference titles, 8 final fours and a national championship. The numbers bear out a story pretty similar to the one you're belittling. His teams compete for the tournament every single year, a conference title and final four roughly once every 3 years, and a national championship once every 6-7 years. They are not Duke. They are not Kansas. Otherwise...not too shabby.

Also here is a reminder that Cassius Winston was going to win a National Championship in 2020 but the tournament was cancelled.
