Those still looking for a hotel. This place isn't bad. Rip some golf the day before or after. Its half the distance from Detroit, and has good food and decent bars.

    https://www.saintjohnsresort.com/

Niece got married there in June. It is legit. I didn't check out the golf facilities but my daughter was a flower girl or something so she and my wife had a room and stayed the night. It's nice. Not luxurious but pretty damn nice. Steakhouse with a bar on site, as well. It's basically a wedding resort so if crashing weddings is your thing, get Chaz on the line and have him meet you there. Definitely a good rec if you're striking out downtown and in AA.

  2. Check Caesars Windsor. On second thought probably not the best idea if you want to do anything on the US side other than the game. Tunnel and bridge and fees are kind of a pain in the ass.

Plymouth, Canton, Northville are nice areas and west of Detroit on the way to AA.

If you're ok with a 35-40 minute drive I'd probably stay in Royal Oak. Good mix of night life and restaurants and shopping. Close to the zoo. About 10 minutes north of downtown.

Another edit, they legalized a couple of years ago here and there are dispensaries all over, mostly in the burbs. If you're into that.

Mack, for Dearborn I would make time for the HF Museum. It is awesome. Al Ameer for Lebanese. The Ford Garage is supposed to be very good. There is a sit down Buddy's in West Dearborn. Miller's Bar for burgers is a must. Don't go to Fairlane.

Detroit to Ann Arbor is like 35 minutes. Shit there are suburbs here in Houston farther than that.

No real reason to not stay in Detroit. Cheaper, better drinks, more things to do.

That being said, holy fuck there isnt much to do in Detroit outside of Schramms, Kuhnhenn, and pizza

Depends what you're into. I recommend the DIA, definitely the Henry Ford (Dearborn), Hittsville, the Riverwalk is decent. The zoo is nice. If the Tigers are in town you could check out Comerica, they might even be decent this year who knows. You could do a pedal pub downtown, they even have a boat version of the pedal pub on the river. Hell bring your passport and check out Windsor. There are also casinos if you're into that. Dearborn and Hamtramck are cool if you want to explore some different neighborhoods and aren't scared of brown people. If late 20s, early 30s bar hopping is your thing, Royal Oak. If you are a hipster corktown and Ferndale. If you want to hit on cougars and shop at Lululemon and smoke cigars, Birmingham. If you want to get out to the country and do something seasonal, find a good cider mill. Early September is an awesome time of year in SE Michigan typically weather wise.

  4. I am starting to redo my setup. I have a need to mount 3 flat screens vertically. They can have a max height of 26" so that likely means 50" or slightly smaller if I can find without going down to 43". Can a single 2x4 stud hold that kind of weight? What are my options?

  5. The scene with him holding the hospital bed with Dixon strapped to it out of the helicopter was a tad (no pun intended) much I will admit.

Favorite line of the season that did make me LOL was when Terminator said to Reacher on the phone "What is it that you want?" and Reacher thought about it for a second and said "I want to throw you out of a helicopter."

Sales guy that worked for my wife died of a massive heart attack before Christmas. He was 45. He ate well, ran marathons and seemed to be in great health. Tell your co-worker to get into his docs office for stress tests, etc.

It was his blood pressure. Genetic. He started on meds and they're already working. I need to get my ass to the doctor. I'm an only go when something is wrong guy. I'm really scared of what they're going to tell me and I have been for a good 15 years so I don't go. I guess the alternative is worse.

  7. It doesn't feel great on my knees but I just realized I can do a full depth bodyweight squat. Like my damn hamstrings touching my calves. 3 years ago that angle was probably 110 degrees. I'm still falling apart at 46, but the work with the trainer and his guidance on shit my joints will allow me to do has really made a huge difference. Sorry for the humblebrag. It's been a rough week and I need to go to bed tonight feeling happy about where I'm at physically. A coworker (49) told me today that he had a heart jerk last week. He runs 30 miles a week, eats perfect, doesn't drink or smoke. 6'0, 173. Between that and the Warriors assistant coach keeling over at 46 and I'm going to keep making changes in a positive direction.

DAKboard.  They have free subscription model for single calendar if you hook up to your own display.  For less-tech required approach they do everything up to ready to go wall displays.

It acts as a photo display too which draws more eyes towards it as well.

adding... because DAKboard is really the software I noticed a bunch of people have started selling their own put together frames running it and selling them on Etsy

So basically I buy the dakboard CPU and a smart TV and that's a wrap? Do I need to hang the TV vertically? Seems like it would be nice to use it as a TV if I were so inclined.

  9. I have been contemplating some kind of setup to display the family Google calendar on a flat screen in the kitchen. Anyone do this? If so, app or setup recommendations? I was initially thinking touchscreen but that might be overkill. I think input from phones/laptop is fine but it would be nice to have something more in your face for the shithead kids and husband who forget to look at the calendar on the phone.

  10. It has been a few years but there is light rail from the airport to downtown that integrates with the subway. As I recall it was quite easy and convenient. Maybe a 20-30 minute ride.

  11. The Drew Brooks piece was pretty heartbreaking. I can't imagine. I'm going through some stuff with my oldest and something like this helps put it into perspective.

Also there is not currently, nor in my opinion has there ever been, a better theme song/intro music than Hard Knocks. Cheers be damned. Instantly gets me fired up.

  12. Update. Sent my mother in law in to the store covertly back when this was going down to order 250 sq ft of the same flooring. I have it on hand.

In the meantime mil saw the carpet we are doing in the basement and decided it would be a nice Christmas gift for us to carpet the main stairway, upstairs hallway and master suite addition in the same carpet. This was never in scope with the contractor. She bought through the same store.

Last week they were here to install the lvt. I told them what was going on, and that I wanted them to come back and do the living room when they come to do the carpet. They said great, thank you, call the store and tell them.

I've been waiting a week for a quote and I found out why. Indeed they went to the builder and asked his permission. And he said no. I said why can you do that carpet upstairs for us but not the floor and they said it's because he never gave us a quote for that area.

To think I even told him I had payment ready for the other change orders. Now I will definitely not be scratching that check until every last thing is completed to my satisfaction. Asshole.
