  1. Max Abmas is a better scorer than anyone we had on the roster last year. You have to go back a ways to find any guards at UT who score as well as he does AND as efficiently as he does. Abrams (funny the spelling is so close) is about as close as we have, but he wasn't nearly as versatile of a player. And yes, I realize that he was doing this in the Summit League. But he also did in in the NCAA Tourney. And he was doing it with very little help, so the other defense could completely key on him. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he averages ~20 points and also gets close to 6 assists per game next year. Best UT guard scoring seasons: Max Abmas ('21) - 24.5 PTS, 3.8 AST, 3.4 TRB, 42.1 3P%, 63.1 TS% - NCAA All-Region Team (Oral Roberts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Marcus Carr ('21) - 19.4 PTS, 4.9 AST, 4.0 TRB, 37.1 3P%, 51.7 TS% - Big 10 3rd Team (Wisconsin) Tyrese Hunter ('22) - 11.0 PTS, 4.9 AST, 3.5 TRB, 27.4 3P%, 47.5 TS% - Big 12 RoY (Iowa State) Sir'Jabari Rice ('23) - 13.0 PTS, 2.0 AST, 3.5 TRB, 37.1 3P%, 61.0 TS% - Big 12 6MoY (Texas) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Matt Coleman ('21) - 13.2 PTS, 4.0 AST, 3.5 TRB, 37.7 3P%, 60.2 TS% - Big 12 3rd Team Isaiah Taylor ('16) - 15.0 PTS, 5.0 AST, 2.8 TRB, 31.1 3P%, 52.5 TS% - Big 12 1st Team Myck Kabongo ('13) - 14.6 PTS, 5.5 AST, 5.0 TRB, 29.6 3P%, 54.9 TS% J'Covan Brown ('12) - 20.1 PTS, 3.8 AST, 3.4 TRB, 36.9 3P%, 55.0 TS% - Big 12 1st Team AJ Abrams ('09) - 16.6 PTS, 1.3 AST, 2.2 TRB, 39.6 3P%, 55.7 TS% - Big 12 2nd Team DJ Augustin ('08) - 19.2 PTS, 5.8 AST, 2.9 TRB, 38.1 3P%, 55.7 TS% - 1st Team All-American
  2. This is a pretty uninformed take. What kind of NIL deal do you think he would get here?
  3. A lot of us were saying to be patient. The portal is dynamic and players get added continually. And that patience has been rewarded. No need to bicker. Let’s enjoy the fact that we have all the big pieces now. Everything else is just finding the right complementary pieces.
  4. This thread is dead. How bout some good news up in here.
  5. I’m not sure we need a “point guard”. It would be fine having both Abmas and Hunter and just use the two interchangeably. Plus whenever one is taking a break 10 min a game, the other will be the main ball handler. Carr and Hunter both played a lot of lead guard minutes last year.
  6. Obviously I want Abmas to come here. But having both him and Tyrese Hunter is going to be pretty small at guard. It won't be the end of the world if we wind up with: Tyrese Hunter, 6-0, G – 10.3 PTS, 3.0 REB, 2.5 AST, 0.8 STL, 0.2 BLK, 80.0% FT, 44.6% 2P%, 33.7% 3P%, 30.3 MP, 73 GS, 1.8 TO – 2 yrs left Tyrin Lawrence, 6-4, G – Vanderbilt – 13.1 PTS, 4.4 REB, 1.7 AST, 1.0 STL, 0.1 BLK, 74.3% FT, 56.3% 2P%, 36.0% 3P%, 29 MP, 52 GS, 1.8 TO – 2 yrs left Chendall Weaver, 6-3, G – UTA – 9.5 PTS, 4.6 REB, 2.0 AST, 0.9 STL, 0.4 BLK, 70.3% FT, 46.5% 2P%, 40.2% 3P%, 29 MP, 25 GS, 1.2 TO – 3 yrs left Plus Perryman and some minutes from Brock at SG.
  7. Switch coaches and those games are all Suns blowouts. Ty Lue was able to get every last bit of productivity out of Westbrook. They were hanging tough by playing crazy hard. If you add Kawhi and/or Paul George it would have changed the dynamic a lot. It probably goes seven games, but I still think Suns win. Curious if the Clippers keep Westbrook.
  8. Boston went from gentleman's sweep to being in real danger of losing this series in one shot. Atlanta has a good chance of winning the next one at home. Then anything can happen in game 7.
  9. That is in the running for the worst take I have ever seen on this site, and that is saying something.
  10. Wat. KD was incredible at Texas. Had one of the best seasons by any player at the college level. The team was just waaaay too young to capitalize on it. Interesting question. Decided to go back and do a little research. This would be my order of liking the one-and-dones: Kevin Durant – 25.8 PTS, 11.1 TRB, 1.3 AST, 1.9 BLK – National PoY Sir’Jabari Rice – 13.0 PTS, 3.5 TRB, 2.0 AST, 86.3 FT% – Big 12 6MoY (Made Elite Eight) Mo Bamba – 12.9 PTS, 10.5 TRB, 3.7 BLK – All-Big 12 2nd Team, Big 12 All Defense, UT Blocks Record, Hit rap song (Lost 1st Round) Tristan Thompson – 13.1 PTS, 7.8 TRB, 2.4 BLK – All-Big 12 2nd Team, Big 12 All Defense, Big 12 RoY (Lost 2nd Round to Arizona) Myles Turner – 10.1 PTS, 6.5 TRB, 2.6 BLK – All-Big 12 3rd Team, Big 12 All Defense, Big 12 RoY (Lost 1st Round) Jarrett Allen – 13.4 PTS, 8.4 TRB, 1.5 BLK – Big-12 All-Freshman (No NCAA Tourney) Jaxson Hayes – 10.0 PTS, 5.0 TRB, 2.2 BLK – All-Big 12 2nd Team, Big 12 All Defense, Big 12 RoY (Won NIT) Corey Joseph – 10.4 PTS, 3.0 AST, 1.0 STL – Big-12 All-Freshman (Lost 2nd Round to Arizona) Ioannis Papapetrou – 8.3 PTS, 4.4 TRB, 1.2 AST – (Lost 1st Round of CBI) Greg Brown – 9.3 PTS, 6.2 TRB, 1.2 3PT – Big-12 All-Freshman (Lost 1st Round to ACU)
  11. I like that he has 3 years left. Get some player continuity up in here. Right now we basically have zero guards. We need 3 of Tyrese Hunter, Max Abmas, Tyrin Lawrence, Chendall Weaver. Any three out of that four would be fantastic.
  12. In my opinion, the only way that Ron Holland isn't in our starting lineup is if Dillon Mitchell is back. And even then, it will be a very interesting decision who starts at the 3. I could see a lot of minutes with a lineup like: Hunter + Abmas + Holland + Mitchell + Disu. That is a mobile, athletic, fast AF team that would be a nightmare to match up against on both ends of the court.
  13. Dude played pretty well as a freshman and won WAC RoY. Decent size. Shot >40% from 3. Low turnovers. Seems like a good add. That said, UTA was 11-21 last year. I would prefer to get players from winning programs if possible. Wonder if Chris Ogden started his recruitment to UTA when he was there.
  14. Abmas only has a year left so it doesn't really matter that much to K-State whether he plays for Texas or Baylor.
  15. What good is it having the most money if you don't use that money to win? Just to brag about?
  16. Looking at how the minutes might shake out if Mitchell and Hunter come back and we add Abmas. I'm not seeing how we have room for Onyema or any other 3/4/5 in that scenario. We really need to add another capable guard. I could see it looking something like this, with the orange highlighting the starters. (Note that we generally average ~220 minutes when you account for missed games due to injury and such). If Mitchell doesn't come back and we fail to add another guard, then we will need Onyema. We would also need Hunter and Abmas to log pretty big minutes (about what Carr did last year). Brock would also have to pick up the load at SG. I don't think this team would be bad, but it really only goes 7 deep.
  17. We should be looking at this guy Arterio Morris who is in the portal.
  18. Am I wrong in thinking that Brock could play some shooting guard for short stretches? The last two years he has shot 43% from 3 (granted on limited volume). He is also an underrated passer and I like the way he keeps the ball moving. He might have problems guarding the smaller guards, but has to do that all the time anyway when we are switching. Maybe he can work on his ball handling over the summer and give it a shot, playing an NBA PJ Tucker role. Anamekwe is going to give us some minutes at the 3/4. 247 had him as the #15 player in the state his senior year. It will be great to watch his development. He definitely has the physical tools to work with. I still don't think we will get a ton from him this year, but by next year I think he will start to be a contributor. It is also probably unrealistic, but I have some hope that Gavin Perryman will continue to improve and get a few minutes as the years go by. Like his dad, he is a great shooter and may be able to give us 5 min a game this year. He will now be in his 3rd year in the program after redshirting in 2021.

  20. Got to agree with Derka on this one. Losing Morris was really really painful. He was going to be great for us this year. Oh well. The portal gives and the portal takes away.
  21. My bad. Forgot about that one. Mods can merge if they like.
  22. Those face up 10 footers won us the Big 12 Conference tourney and landed us in the Sweet 16.
  23. Disu deserves his own thread. Awesome news. Absolutely huge. I fully expect him to be getting 30+ minutes per game this year. He is going to be an absolute monster. All-American awards are definitely in play. Let's get him some help!
  24. I feel like this news deserves its own thread.
