think you're putting way too much weight on the value of a win over OU based on where we're attempting to come from. Our record makes it look like we're close; the guys who get paid to speculate on this stuff for a living don't think we are.
The guys who are speculating are making assumptions about how we will finish the year. Nobody is going to have us beating either Tech or OU. If we win one or two of those games, the entire conversation changes. Since the start of the 10-team Big-12 in 2012, no 10-8 team has failed to miss the tourney. 75% of 9-9 teams (100% last 5 years) and 60% of 8-10 teams made it in. And even a 7-11 OU made it.
In 8 years, the Big-12 got 7 teams in 4 times, 6 teams 3 times, and 5 only once. While this year looks like a down year for the conference, we will still have two #1 seeds and are generally viewed as the #2 conference. We will get at least 5 bids, probably 6.
Conference Results
2019: 9-9 ISU, 7-11 OU made tourney. 8-10 UT missed (6/10 teams made it in)
2018: 9-9 TCU, 8-10 OU, 8-10 UT made tourney. 8-10 OSU, 8-10 Baylor missed (7/10 teams made it in)
2017: 9-9 OSU, 8-10 KSU made tourney (6/10 teams made it in)
2016: 9-9 Tech made tourney (7/10 teams made it in)
2015: 8-10 UT, 8-10 OSU made tourney, 8-10 K-State missed (7/10 teams made it in)
2014: 9-9 Baylor, 8-10 OSU made tourney, 9-9 (17-16 overall) West Virginia missed (7/10 teams made it in)
2013: 9-9 (23-14 overall) Baylor missed (NIT champs) (5/10 teams made it in)
2012: 9-9 Texas made tourney (6/10 teams made it in)

Even after all of this sucking, I could still be won back as a fan of Shaka. If we win out, there is no way they keep us out of the tourney. That is probably the case even if we go 2-1 in the next 3. Has any team in the Big 12 been denied a tourney bid with a winning conference record?
And if this team makes the tourney all bets are off regarding how far they could go. There is a lot of talent on the roster.
All that said, we probably go 1-2 miss again.

Finally decided to book a trip to Isla Mujeres after reading this thread for years. Going in mid July with the family. Probably be hot af, but who cares we will just get in the ocean.
Looking to book Ixchel Beach Hotel. For those who have been, is there any real difference between a 2 BR suite and the 2 BR Penthouse? For the penthouse, I can't tell if the patio and hot tub on the roof are private or not. Anybody been in any of these? Also anybody ever gotten a roll-away bed at Ixchel?

Just got back from Vegas. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't really care for Absinthe or Opium. I'm all for crude humor if it is at all clever. To me though, these shows just seem lazy. They were funny at the time, but entirely forgettable. Like eating a candy bar. Except the candy bar is priced like a steak. Oh, you're swinging around a dildo. That's so provocative! Yawn.
In fact, that is starting to be my feeling about Las Vegas as a whole. Everything is glittery on the surface, but that's about it. They whole thing is a rip-off facsimile of better, more authentic places. Everything costs a ton, and then the vacation is ultimately forgettable.

So Gods Gift, @ Moonshine and LSU coming up. 1-2 would be awesome. 0-3 wouldn’t shock me
Or maybe we go 3-0.

Scored at lunch today. OF 1910, 2 bottles of ER 10 and a 1.75 of Buffalo Trace.
It is sad that this is considered a "score" these days.

I’m a huge OF honk, but 1910 is nothing like 1897 or 1920. It’s not at all medicinal. It’s more like biting into a Twix.I view 1910 is the bourbon version of eating a s'more in the best possible way.

How did it go? Thinking about this for our trip? The Andaz was great. It was our second time there. We definitely got our money worth going the all-inclusive route. The food - especially in their best restaurant - was tremendous. I also had zero worries about drinking anything at the Andaz. The liquor is top-shelf.
We rented a car for 24 hours (~$100 all-in including gas) and drove up to Rio Celeste, a beautiful river in the rain forest. It was about 2 hours each way of mainly country driving. We stopped at a huge waterfall on the way back.
If renting a car, the best thing to do would be to rent it around 5:00 p.m. and then drive to Play Cabayul for the sunset. It is about 10-15 minute easy drive in the countryside. The beach is fantastic and mainly locals. Then you will have the car for the whole next day to do an excursion and be back in time for dinner.
PM me if you have any questions. We have lots of tips for the Andaz. It is a great property. Damnit now you are making me want to go back.

We've lost to worse teams than this in the last 5 years. I'll take the W.
We shoot too many 3s. When they fall we can beat any team in the country. When we are cold, there are zero guaranteed wins on the schedule.

Not great form and also doesn't look very athletic (for a top-5 player). I'm skeptical and I say that as someone who actually really likes Lonzo.

Washing away the loss today with some 1910 and then Blantons. I think next will be Weller 107 and then some Angels Envy rye to close things out.

Go on....Go to Europe. -
Odd timing after beating a school none of us have heard of.

I just finished the game. I had no idea who Cal Baptist was before this game, but they look like a real basketball team with a few good to quite good players. Didn't think we played terrible. I thought the repeated drive and dish by Coleman was solid.

Outside looks stupid and will quickly be dated. Inside looks tiny. Fail.

My wife and I are headed up to Chicago the weekend before Thanksgiving for two nights. Staying at The Thompson. Any late fall recs? Will it be too cold for the boat architecture tour?
Planning to hit 2nd City on Saturday night. Other than that no major plans. -
Steph
Klay
Paschal
Looney
Draymond
Lotto choice
Whatever else they come up with
NOT WCS
Add DeAngelo Russell to that list.
Or add Gary Harris, Michael Porter Jr, Juancho Hernangomez and a Denver 1st rounder for DeAngelo Russell.
-
Would be even more of a difference if they had the lineup with DeMarcus Cousins instead of Damian Jones. Also missing Iggy (which is huge on the defensive end).
-
Not on the same level but they have also lost Kevin Looney, Willie Cauley Stein and Alec Burks to injuries in recent games
-
The Wizards aren't as horrible as I expected. Same with Charlotte.
Meanwhile the Warriors and Kings are much worse than expected. -
Embiid is also up there. Jarrett Allen is climbing up the list. Same with Pascal Siakam. SGA is also fun to watch.
Hate watching Myles Turner for some reason. -
My most fun team to watch:
G: Russell Westbrook - just plays so hard
G: Patrick Beverly - so entertaining
F: Klay Thompson - no better watch when hot
F: Kawhi Leonard - crushes people's souls
C: Kristaps Porzingis - original unicorn on both ends
Lillard and Kyrie Irving also deserve mention when they get it going. Durant and Curry are also fun.
LeBron is boring for me. Same with AD. Honestly same with Giannis.
Anyone else feel like this year's tourney will be the toughest to predict in years?

I'm not sure about the field as a whole, but it is pretty easy to predict that we are going to the NIT.
