Was that the game that produced the gif of Barnes licking his lips?
Such a terrible BS loss. I was mad about that for about 6 months. -
I don't think I will be confident facing ANY team in the tournament with this group. If a team can make the tourney, they can beat us. That said, I don't think there is a team in the tournament who will be very happy to face us either, all the way up to Gonzaga.
And 2011 is an interesting comparison to this year's squad. Pretty similar record actually. And the losses were all very close for the most part. Better highs, but also worse losses. If we pick up a couple of wins in the Big-12 tourney, I think I like this year's resume better.
2011 record: 2 top-10, 8 top-50... but 3 ugly losses.
- Top-50 wins: #2 at KU, #7 UNC, #20 ILI, #30 at MSU, #32 ATM, #32 ATM, #32 ATM, #34 MU
- Losses: #2 KU, #5 UConn, #6 Pitt, #21 KSU, #52 at CU, #54 USC, #65 at NU (and #17 AU)
2021 record: 0 top-10, 7 top-50... no ugly losses.
- Top-50 wins: #12 KU, #12 at KU, #14 at WVU, #27 OSU, #31 OU, #34 UNC, #36 IU
- Losses: #2 Baylor, #10 Nova, #14 WVU, #16 Tech, #15 at Tech, #27 OSU, #31 OU

If he were more decisive and just a tad bit more athletic or a tad bit more savvy he'd basically be J'Covan Brown.
If I were picking teams down at the Y, I would pick Ramey over Brown. He is much more committed on the defensive end (and has better size). Agree that they are similar players though.
Since this is an OU thread, it seems appropriate to say that I hope Ramey makes a jump like Buddy Hield in his senior year. If Ramey can keep his 3PT% with the big jump in usage he will get next year while also improve his decision-making inside the arc, I could see him scoring 20 ppg next year.

Hmmm interesting take.
-
So using those probabilities you get:
- 3-Seed: 22.9%
- 4-Seed: 62.9%
- 5-Seed: 12.1%
- 6-Seed: 2.1%
-
In fairness, Abrams shot 284 3s the year he shot 42%. Ramey is on pace for ~120 attempts (currently at 100).
-
By the way, if he keeps it up, he is going to blow away the single-season 3PT% record at Texas, currently held by AJ Abrams. Literally nobody views him as a better shooter than Abrams.

The thing about Ramey is that he actually has improved quite a bit over the last 3 years. He is shooting an insane 44% from 3 and has become clutch from the line. He is also averaging 4 APG. If he could cut down his turnovers and take better shots inside the arc, he could be really great.
I would expect even more growth over the next year since he will be "the man" and not splitting coaching attention with Coleman (for better or worse, lol).

After the massive block on Kai Jones dunk attempt I thought we had no chance. Those back to back 3s by Ramey saved us.
I actually like that dude. Yes he takes some bad shots, but he also plays with a lot of confidence and can score in bunches when he gets going. He plays very hard on defense as well. -
We are the top 3 seed per Lunardi. I think a finals appearance would seal it. We’d either beat OSU/Baylor or Tech/KU to get there.
In that case winning the Big 12 tourney might put a top-2 seed in play if the chips fall right. -
If the 4-seed we’d likely face OSU and then Baylor.
If the 3-seed, it’s Tech then Kansas.
Ugh both seem extremely difficult. OSU is hot, but we are 1-1 with a 2OT loss. We are 0-2 versus Tech. Losing to Baylor probably doesn’t hurt us, seeding wise at all.
I would rather face OSU and Baylor. I think we would beat TT if we played them again, but almost no chance we beat KU a 3rd time.-

I beg to differ. We're a likely 4 seed, and OU is hanging around 5/6 territory, while a Texas Tech team that swept us is a strong 5 seed.
The only game we should feel even somewhat confident about is the first-round matchup, and again, that's if we hang onto a 4 seed.
I suppose that is true. I’m not saying I feel confident playing anyone, just that theoretically we can beat them.
I wonder what would have to happen for us to climb up to a 3-seed in the NCAA tourney. Win the Big12 tournament? -
I still feel like this team can beat anybody - and I mean literally anybody - if they are playing well, especially on defense.
We won’t face a team as good as OU until the Sweet 16 and even then it won’t be a road game on senior night.
The Big 12 is such a beating. Every dang night it is another top 20 team with a ton of talent and a great coach. -
OU defense is going to ugly it up. That was a big win. I don’t care how it looked.
Also, Sims has become a much better player in his time here. He is so athletic that it still feels like he could be a lot better. -
Little help defense there would have been cool.
-
That Sims dunk was beautiful. And nice dish by Ramey.
-
OU is playing scrappy. Getting in Coleman’s head.

Send me one and I'll PM back. We can have a meet and greet.

FWIW - Derka, I tried to PM you my old handle, but you can't receive messages. Oh well. Main reason for new handle is that too many people in my real life knew it, which was problematic at times.
I still don't understand how I'm a Shaka Stan - and find it so on brand that you would try to label me as such. I state repeatedly that he isn't good enough for Texas and should be fired. I state that he is mediocre to bad at everything but recruiting. I state that he is in the bottom half of coaches in the Big-12.
If one person says a coach is "terrible" and another says, "no, they are merely bad", that isn't much of a disagreement. Yet, you act like I'm calling him John Wooden.
And when you respond so vigorously, it forces people to take an equally polar view or to submit. Neither are good options or conducive for a good dialog.

NEWherebutA&M. pretty sure at one point he also signed up here under that handle and then made like one post, all for plausible deniability. so weird how many posters saw this new site as a chance to escape their posting past.
Wrong. And also rich that you criticize people for using a new handle. -
I agree with all of your points except possibly the last one. I would have Shaka in the 5-6 range.
But it doesn't even matter because that still isn't good enough to retain.
-
Shaka's win% is almost exactly the same as OUs over just about any period of his tenure.
-
And agree, maybe my original post was shitty. And perhaps I was overly sensitive. I have gotten about 6 hours sleep in the last 2 days. I apologize.

Wut? I'm not combining 18 and 21 and skipping 19 and 20. This is last 1 year, last 2 years, last 3 years, last 4, etc. How is that weird? Would it be better to just judge him on the 17-19 seasons?

If you replaced AI with say Chris Paul or D Wade or even Klay Thompson I would probably take them. Bron and Bird would be an amazing combo, and a case can be made that Kareem was the best player of all time. AI just kills that team.
