  1. TT lost 71% of its scoring from last year.
  2. Can't argue with that. Truth be known, their new defense has a hybrid DE/LB position that also drops back in pass coverage on occasion and that's where he's projected. Who knows though how he develops physically in the next 3 years.
  3. Fwiw, Vegas' Superbook yesterday had TT as having the 9th best odds in the country for winning a NC. This at 25/1.
  4. TTU got a couple of commitments the last couple of days. Got an athlete out of Bishop Gorman (Donovan Smith ) who fancies himself a dual threat QB but played WR last year. At 6-4, catching passes is likely to be where he ends up I'd guess. He's the TT RB coach's son and will now move to Lubbock to play his senior year.. Dont know where else to put this (please, nobody say I'll tell you where you can put it), but they also got a commitment from Lubbock Cooper freshman safety Kobie Mckinzie. Already at 6-3, 225, he's likely to be a 5 star type as he already had 6 offers including one from Oklahoma State. That said, I refuse to give a lot of thought to a commitment who hasn't even completed his freshman year in high school yet. Life long (as short as it's been) Tech fan who's been around the program a good while now.
  5. Tech beats Kentucky 7-4 this afternoon.
  6. Oh well, you know what they say, close only counts in hand grenades and farts.
  7. Wells has also hired N. Tx WR coach Joel Filani for the same position on his staff. Tommerdahl and Filani replace coaches who left for Oregon and Penn State. Filani's financial advisory activities are pretty limited though.
  8. Texas Tech among the final 6 for Virginia Tech WR, Eric Kumah. Notre Dame wants him too.
  9. You got that right. Even very deep pocketed boosters don't get a voice. A couple of Midland guys who played for Leach have made a fortune in the oil business. They wanted Holgerson when Kliff was fired. Using their own plane and working with Dana they had made all the interview arrangements. Also, they were willing to make to make a very sizable donation to the football facility renovations. Hocutt passed.
  10. You're absolutely right about Wells better be ready to step up his recruiting game. After the Kliff recruiting experience, the patience of TT fans will pretty short when it comes to poor recruiting. Of course Wells will have a strong ally in Hocutt who won't want to appear to make two consecutive poor football hires.
  11. Besides Lane, Octavious Morgan, another really good DB, is set to give it a go this year as well. Missed the entire season last year with what was an unusually serious knee injury. Most thought he'd never be able to play again. Whether he can or not remains to be seen.
  12. Your point is definitely well taken regarding his MW track record. As a Tech fan my hope is that a couple of new additions to the staff especially have recruiting chops as advertised. 13. You may very well be right. He did a seemingly lackluster job with the class this year. That said, I'm not sure it's entirely fair to make any hard and fast recruiting judgements about a new coach and staff who have been on the job six weeks or whatever it's been. His focus seemed to be on kickers, punters, walk ons and 2020, even 2021 offers. Wisely or not, they really made a lot of future offers. Coachspeak perhaps, but he talked a lot today about not being willing to sacrifice quality for 2019 numbers. We'll see what happens next year. With Kliff being such a poor recruiter, Wells will catch more than his share of shit if he doesn't improve things next year.
  14. If it matters, there's some major misconceptions here about Steven Parker's recruitment. To begin with, he committed to TT in early May of 2017. His very hard Tech commitment of over a year and a half certainly significantly impacted recruiting intensity and number of suitors as he formerly lived in Lubbock and had both a grandmother and aunt with whom he was very close still residing there. He was very close to some of the staff as well. Didn't take the time to look at 247, but Rivals shows him with 30 offers. As far as supposed lack of interest from in-.state schools, Baylor and TCU we're both very interested and offered. He even visited TCU maybe 3 weeks ago or so. UT certainly didn't offer, but neither did they indicate complete disinterest either as they had some conversation with him. He visited Neb. some 8 days ago. Parker's KU commitment is completely about one thing and one thing only, that being coach Emmett Jones getting a job at KU after having been let go when Kliff got the axe.
  15. HOUSTON (AP) — Asked what attracted him to the Houston Astros, Wade Miley responded with a laugh and said: “Will Harris." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miley apparently also has a ranch outside of Austin.
  16. Actually, they were tied last year for first in the country in number of players drafted.
  17. Three CWS in the last 5 years will do that.
  18. Edited from TT perspective , Beard talks to media post game.
  19. My favorite announcer comment of the day was projected early first round draft pick, Tech's Jarrett Culver, was "one of the better guards in the building". Uh, I would think so.
  20. KK's introductory press conference today. A few tough questions asked (how do you reconcile your losing record with this opportunity), but fairly standard as such things go. Q&A starts about 15 minutes into video.
  21. Plus fwiw, in an interview after he was fired, he said Alan Bowman was going to be the best of all of them. Who knows if it turns out that way or not, but just thought it was interesting considering the company he was in.
  22. Fox Sports Holly Sonders finally made she and KK's relationship public today on twitter. It's been a not very well kept secret for a while now.
  23. "A tipster sends along the following email, which was originally sent from Stephen Spiegelberg, a Texas Tech alum and proprietor of Lubbock clothing store Chrome, to Joe Parker, the deputy athletics director at Texas Tech. According to the tipster, the message was bcc'd to a few of Texas Tech's regents. The email seems to be a followup message after a lunch meeting between Spiegelberg and Parker. It contains a detailed list of ideas about how to get Texas Tech's new head football coach, 33-year-old Kliff Kingsbury, into the media spotlight." There"s likely value in being mindful this story is 6 years old at this point and not a person in the entire world, much Lubbock, took it seriously....other than perhaps the writer.
  24. IMO, the substance of the conversation would be changed substantially. It would be my suggestion that perhaps you're not aware of the exact nature of the existing professional relationship. Of course, like any coach and an established NFL veteran star relationship, there wouldn't be a "son, I'm going to teach you how to play QB" approach, but there are elements to the Pat's offense KK could make significant contributions in.
