Man, I absolutely love Cracker.  I wasn't the biggest CBV fan, but when Johnny Hickman joined up with David Lowery, sparks flew.  I've seen them a few times and they always bring it.

I've actually never seen them live, but I noticed they are also playing a show in Gloucester MA in Aug, and thats usually the time of year I try to get out to the Boston area and hang out at my sister's place for a bit to escape the heat. If I bail on the SD show, I'll make sure to catch them in MA.

Got a notification from Kevin McKinney that Soulhat is having another show 7/27 at Antone’s. A couple buddies of mine went to see them last year in Austin at another reunion deal. Loved every minute of it, apparently.

Yeah I posted in the "Concert your attending" thread in the music forum to not derail this any further. Its not on the  Antones website yet,so I emailed them to verify as I was planning to be out of town that weekend.

  3. Met up with some folks today at a joint in Round Rock called Palermo Pasta. Not out of this world good, but they have a lunch special that was $12 that includes iced tea, salad and main dish and there were 5 or 6 options. Most of us grabbed the lasagna or Calzone and no complaints.  Decent $12 lunches are hard to find these days.

Damn!  Would love to see Soulhat again.  I practically lived at Black Cat when they were in residence there.

I'm going to see Os Mutantes tonight at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, Or.

Really excited to see the opener Ghost Funk Orchestra, too.

Went down a bit of a soulhat rabbit earlier, and stumbled across this on their website:

I was halfway planning to fly out to San Diego that weekend to see Cracker with an old roommate who also digs that band,  but now I dont know. The show isnt listed on the Antones website, so who knows.

    Soulhat at the Black Cat

Easily my favorite spot on 6th street back in the day. One of those places where people would mix from all walks of life in Austin. Fun times.

Long time since I heard this one---Get it, Frosty!!

Every few months if I'm driving around Austin on a Friday around 5  or 6, I'll throw on the extended jam of bonecrusher and fade back to that era for a bit. Song still fucking jams.

Rerun, Marcus Allen, the white glasses guy is the warden from Shawshank Redemption, the next rifleman is Jarret Allen (UT / NBA player). Then Dick Gregory, then 2 unknowns.

Gotta +rep any Rerun reference. Still rocking the beret I see, but this must have been taken when he was in his emo/goth, must wear black phase.

Peaceful tools of discourse and understanding. Should I bold it for the fuck you effect?

The university declined to elaborate when asked how many weapons were found, when they were found and other questions.

And for that matter, who cares if they were carrying a gun? I thought everyone packing heat was the utopian dream here in texas. Thats what patriotric americans do. Or so ive been led to believe by any number of congress men and women. Its possible that a school shooting could take place, and we sure as fuck know we cant count on those fucking pussies in the DPS to take action.

How many of the previous on campus Pro-Palestine protests (which seemed to have been no issue at all) have hundreds of non-students attending?(also making up the majority of the arrests)

Their presence in large numbers would seem to be at least some evidence of escalation

Again, why does that matter one fucking iota? Texas republicans specifically passed legislation allowing ANYONE access to public universities in the name of free speech. Outside protestors have rights guaranteed by our state legislature to participate in protests. But now that they are espousing rhetoric that opposes Texas GOP talking points, a lot of jimmies got  rustled. Show me evidence that campus safety was being threatened.

What a cumstain this dude is. He needs a swift kick to the cunt and to be stuffed in a locker. What specific plans existed "to harm the campus community?"  A bunch of 18-22 year poorly arguing the worlds social injustices was par for the course on the west mall the entirety of my time in Austin.  While I agree that the campus should be kept free from harm, I have to see or hear any fucking evidence that this was the case. Tents, lulz.  If Hartzell and Eltife want to jerk Abbott off so bad, why don't they just ask? Hot Wheels would probably love the action.

Congrats, I don't see myself ever pulling the lever for the big D either. I honestly hate both parties, just hate the Democrat party way worse. FYI, IMHO Biden is the biggest pandering political liar of my lifetime.

Goddamn thats funny.  Who's gonna break it to the dems that LonghornLove wont be joining Biden on the campaign trail this season because he's got the next 6 months blocked out to gargle Trump's orange balls. It going to wreck their entire strategy.

Holy fuck! It doesn’t? What in the fuck does if that doesn’t?

I can’t believe anyone would say what you just said.

There's like 75 million people in this country wearing a red hat that would absolutely agree with Snacks on that one.

That's not an opinion, it's a supposition.  And it runs counter to Hartzell's text saying he requested DPS presence.  Unless your supposition is also that Abbott ordered Hartzell to request DPS presence, Hartzell requested their presence, and then Hartzell lied to a state senator about the source of the request.

you have correctly surmised my opinion.

  15. 2 minutes ago, Longhornfan1024 said:

Is this a wild guess or a "guess"?  I ask because the texts the media released show Hartzell saying he reached out to ask for DPS assistance, not the other way around.  If that's the case it seems like there had to be something to trigger that request if he hadn't already done it for the other protests.  I agree that the mere presence of troopers last Wednesday likely had an escalating effect on the protesters (I won't call them students because it appears a large portion were not students), but what caused the escalating effect on the University to even call in the troopers?  We have a lot of posters here postulating that it's because he disagrees with the content of their speech, but if that's the case, why not call the troopers in one of the first dozen or so times UT had pro-palestinian protesters on campus?

Because in my opinion,  it was all a planned publicity stunt for abbot to helicopter his flaccid dong around and prove he means business in the state of TX. The next day there was little to no police presence with what I've read was a larger crowd protesting.

  16. We have now entered the phase of the season that Lebron and his team have been training for all year...the "look at me, look at how much I mean to the Lakers, but then again think about how much I could mean to another team who might draft NBA-ready Bronny" phase. Its a special time, and no matter who we root for, a time I hope we can all enjoy.

the only pregame show i watch

Same. If I'm home, I start streaming redzone at kick of the noon games and let it run in the background as long as I'm home. If there are any good games I may fire that one up on my laptop.  I really dont give a fuck who they have in the studio for pregame/halftime, most of them are tools. When we were in LA for the Michigan Rose Bowl years ago, we met up at a bar with a guy I knew who lived in Orange County and he rolled in with a group that included Curt Menefee. Curt spent about 20  minutes trying to pick up a few of the chicks in our group and once he realized he  wasnt getting laid, he pouted for a bit and left on his own. I get that he wouldn't give any fucks about the rest of us, but he seemed like kind of an awkward chode in person.

Yep. Same reason he chose Pence.

I still laugh at how Pence would spend the first 3-4 minutes of every single appearance homoerotically describing Trump's courage, wisdom, and manliness. I halfway expected him to scream "Trump makes my taco pop!"
