  1. Reagan beat met to it; I’ve had success with steel wool, but bronze wool sounds like a better idea. Really fine steel wool (I think 0000) and Corrosion X has worked for me on blued guns with some light rust. Go very slow and very light pressure. Might soak it in Corrosion C for a day or two prior to hitting it with the steel wool. Also as a PSA: Corrosion X For Guns is a great product that I think is better than Rem Oil as a lubricant and has some of the rust protection of Corrosion X. http:// https://www.corrosionx.com/collections/corrosion-prevention-control/products/corrosionx-ultimate-clp-cleaner-lubricant-and-protectant-for-firearms?variant=32078265548896
  2. No birds were flying today so we did some work around the ranch and then I took some time to finish sighting in my new Weatherby and then swung over to the longer range targets for a few shots. the Sig BDX setup worked great, just range the target and the scope gives you a holdover and wind age call. The wind was gusty, so I’ll need some time to practice more wind estimation, etc, but looking lethal for elk next month. iPhone slow mo video is a handy tool to run while you’re taking a shot or two to check your form, etc pre-shot. E.g. my right thumb is more comfortable on the side of the tang rather than crossed over the top and my accuracy was better. I hadn’t noticed until I reviewed a few shots. Good time at the range. .65” group after finishing up the sighting in:
  3. Schnee’s is having a 20% off sale now, got my boots and pack ordered for this fall. Pricy, hopefully will be worth it.
  4. So good. Husker thoughts to ponder. What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know Goes away in the end You could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
  5. Also, a cultipacker will get you better results than a drag for packing the seed in after broadcasting, you might take a look at some point, they can be built/bought used for not too much. Dr. Deer says plots will outperform dry protein 10-1 in a cost per lb protein forage production. I plot about 5-8 acres on our ~184ac place. I drag a packer behind our disk
  6. How far west are you? Turner Seed fall deer mix is out of Breckenridge TX and makes the best blend for west of I35 from my 15 years of trying dry land plots. East of I-35 things get easier with some of the Alabama and other eastern company blends (Pennington, tecomate, buck forage oats(whitetail institute), etc.) Test soils, fertilize, and don’t plant too early, also you need to plant about 2.5-5% of your habitat area if I recall (if possible).
  7. I like the DdlM aesthetic. If fact now that I think about it, I have four skulls in my office at work (which one of my young folks describes as “very intimidating”); but only one of them is human ; )
  8. Boating has been slow for us the last couple years (two jobs changes and moves), but we had a great day today; the 8 yr old stood up on the zup board for the first time
  9. I get it completely. A few years ago I was just as surprised seeing a pink gun as you. If we as a society had made firearms/marksmanship/hunting more approachable/normal to girls/women decades ago, how different things might be. We need women engaged to help “normalize” these rights/activities if we are going to maintain any semblance of the country we grew up in over the next several decades.
  10. On a serious note: anything that makes shooting more approachable to them and lowers the barrier to entry is a good idea. I tried getting them to shoot my grandad’s old Winchester 22 last year, but it’s too big and they couldn’t get setup on it right and they lost interest pretty quick. They don’t even want to touch my big rifles; but they instantly knew this thing was designed for them and looked fun, wanted to do a pretty long dry firing session at the house when I got it out and showed them.
  11. I taught my 11 and 8 year old girls how to shoot a rifle today. Took it slow and easy. Started at 50 yards or so off the tailgate with me holding the gun and them squeezing the trigger, etc and then progressed to them shooting alone and then backed up to 100 off the bench. 11 yr old is right handed but left eye dominant we figured out pretty quickly so I set her up left handed. She was ringing a big gong at 100 yards consistently and having a great time; said she’d “love to do it again soon”. Huge, huge day for me.
  12. One of the guys on a Sako collector’s forum took a photo while he was doing an inventory awhile back. I took a screen shot to show the wife when she says I have enough guns.
  13. What aquifer/formation is the well pulling from?
  14. Picked up my new Weatherby and Sig Sierra 6 last night. I’ll post better pics and a review at some point in another week or so, but I needed to post a photo now to try and get my priapism to subside.
  15. Cabelas finally is starting to have some inventory. I’ve been looking for 450 subsonic for months
  16. The craziest part is that half of the stuff I was interested in is sold out. Kenetrek is sold out of both of the models I was interested in; next shipment due mid-august; Schnee’s is sold out of my 1st choice, next shipment also due in August. I was not anticipating having a hard time finding availability of $400 boots, but this is the world we live in now. I don’t want to wait until August as I need to break them in.
  17. Buying new hunting boots for my elk hunt, etc. Shopped Kenetrek, Zamberlan, Meindl, and Schnee’s. Thinking I’m going with the Schnee’s Timberline. Boots are pricey these days.
  18. I’m a Brushy Bill believer so the data on the Pat Garrett pistol is inaccurate IMO.
  19. Thanks, will let you know on my other rig. I will try to do some low light testing between the Swarovski I have on my other rig and this Sig glass.
  20. Ordered a new Weatherby Accumark Pro in 300 Weatherby today, and a Sig Sierra 6 5-30 scope to mount on it. Going will Talley ring bases. I have the Sig rangefinding binos and another bdx scope and I’ve enjoyed it so far, so this will be interesting. Hopefully everything will be delivered next week and I’ll report further.
  21. Klein doesn’t produce the #/acre biomass that some of the hybrid bermudas will (jigs, tifton, maybe even Coastal); but it does better in clay soils and colder climates than hybrid Bermudas in my experience; and wildlife generally won’t eat Bermuda, but will eat new growth Klein.
  22. This field had been fallow for years; my dad disked it and planted it in Kleingrass last year; it looks phenomenal with all the rain. Kleingrass is a great combo cattle/wildlife grass. I haven’t put cameras out yet, but I got a quick cell phone pic of a nice buck on the way out of the ranch last week. Might have some shooter bucks this year.
  23. That reminds me of a trip I had in the late 80s where two of us were driving back home on a Sunday night in pouring thunderstorms with all of our gear and two gutted deer in the back of a rag top CJ7 with no doors.
  24. I got one of these a couple years ago from Solo Hunter for dust/rain/snow that helps
  25. I watched some of this show the other night and had a lot of these thoughts. It was kinda like idiocracy from a armorer’s perspective. The only time anything made sense is when the girl got on the truck mounted 50 cal.
