  1. Definitely seeing more Cruz signs in Midland in the last week, but seeing more Beto signs as well. Everything seems to be amping up. Still surprised by the number of Beto signs in Midland.

  2. Saw my first Cruz signs in Midland yesterday while walking the dogs. Sign count - Beto 4, Cruz 2. Midland will still go 80% for Cruz, but it's nice to see a small bit of energy out here in depressingly bright red country for Beto.

Yeah this makes me uncomfortable.  For now I'd like to see Beto on an island.  I'm not real keen on lumping him in with a bunch of democrats who have historically had a hard time in this state.  He has worked hard to stand out against the norm.  Let him keep it that way.  At least until he wins, then tie as many to him as he wants.

Yup, this. Went to a Beers for Beto thing a few weeks back in Midland and there was some dude there running for county commissioner or somesuch. Dude couldn't even bother to put on a clean shirt, nearly looked like a homeless man, but he's putting on a stump speech at the Beto event. This guy has 0.00% chance of winning anything in Midland County, but there he was. Felt like a waste of time and potential dilution of the message to be tying that guy to Beto and I'd rather not see that sort of thing right now.

  4. Visited the in-laws in Oak Hill (south Austin for those who don't know) and was amazed by the number of Beto signs. Saw 2 Cruz signs and literally dozens of Beto signs in their neighborhood. Of course, Beto needs to do big business in places like Austin if he hopes to win, but I was amazed at the sheer number of signs.

  5. Interesting little anecdote from my Facebook feed this morning. Every couple of days I'll post something about Beto, positive supportive stuff. An old Air Force friend of mine who is a big time gun nut conservative type from out of state will always use my post as a reason to launch into a bunch of standard right wing butt hurt attacks against Beto, libruls, etc. Of course I engage because I just can't help myself. Yesterday we had a long conversation that got rather heated when I invoked Trump, lying, etc.

This morning, a number of friends chimed in to defend me which is always nice, but I was shocked when a very VERY conservative buddy chimed in to say that he agreed with me about Cruz's negative politics. Said that despite agreeing pretty much 100% on Cruz's policy points, he is very disappointed in how he is running his campaign. Shocked this shit out of me. He'll never vote for Beto, but it was interesting to see that Cruz isn't necessarily winning any friends amongst the more thoughtful conservatives out there.

Well, yeah...a couple. My pastor wife.  The folks I serve on a denominational board with.  The folks who I'll be working with to install a friend as a new pastor at a church this weekend.  All the folks I knew in my 12 years of Catholic education.  So, I guess more than a couple.

And, as my pastor wife and I were discussing last night, observing the crisis of mainstream American Christianity being anti-Gospels, the crisis of institutions of "The Church" (not just confined to the Catholic church) concealing and enabling decades/centuries of horrific abuse, she said "we need to face the fact that the Church is dying.  And maybe it needs to die."  The point being that, yet again, we have so perverted the church to serve our worldly goals that it is no longer an institution OF God run (with many flaws) by men, but rather is entirely an institution of men, run entirely with disregard for or opposition to God.

There can be no sound argument that Jesus would do anything but devote his entire self -- including sacrificing his life -- to serve the least among us.  Folks like little Guatemalans, both adults and children.  As just one example.  Yet American Christianity -- the dominant Church, the Church of the Empire -- stands against them.  Yes, there are many Christians living The Way (as Christianity is).  Go down to McAllen, and the work that many Christians - including the Catholic Church -- are doing is indeed divinity here on earth.  But they are working AGAINST the dominant "Christian" creed of our country and era in doing so.

The Church -- the Church of the Empire, of the dominant culture -- may indeed need to die.  So that the Church, the body of Christ, can be reborn.  It's already had to happen once.

True acts of Christian charity, those.

Well said. This, plus my general lack of faith in the whole God thing, is why I'm no longer a Christian and closer to an atheist than anything else. Grew up in a Christian home with a father who was a pastor but I'm done with it all. And I'm done with the party who has co-opted (or been co-opted by) the evangelicals like my parents. You are correct that there are many Christians doing good things around the world. I just lean towards thinking that humanity can come up with a system that provides a venue for such good works without all of the negatives that come along with religion. I think I'd enjoy a conversation with you and your pastor wife.

  7. Saw another Beto sign in my little Midland neighborhood last night. I'm not naive enough to think Midland is anywhere close to going blue, but that's two more democratic signs than I've ever seen before and still no Cruz signs. I think it speaks to the energy felt by Beto supporters and the apathy felt by Cruz supporters combined with the fact that many Republicans probably don't want to admit that they support Cruz so they'll just quietly vote for him.

    +3.5, wow.  What’s the o/u, 27?

DKR was awfully quiet when Tulsa was storming back Saturday night and it’s hard to even picture you guys getting fired up for that product on the field.

We may suck, but don’t count on the crowd being quiet Saturday night. It’ll be electric.

The main issue I had is the lack of communication of where to go. IDGAF if the seats are taken. Show me where I need to go to get a seat. General admission doesn't work when you just let everyone in with no direction. One girl was pushed down the stairs because people were trying to climb up. They seriously had to send medical personnel out because she busted her nose and was bleeding from the forehead.  A chick 3 rows up just pissed where where was sitting because she didn't want to lose her seat to go to the restroom. What's different now then in 95 or 05 is the ability for students to buy alcohol in the stadium. You could always smuggle it in but there was always the chance of getting caught and you couldn't smuggle in a lot. Now no one gives a fuck which makes the student section drunker and more stupid than ever.

When you combine the ability to buy alcohol with a lack of coordination, shit goes down. The student section started hurling shit at the field. I don't know you, but that is not the fan base that I want. They were even throwing stuff onto the field even after the refs warned us that if we keep doing it that it would cost Texas a penalty. They will almost certainly throw stuff onto the field against USC and it could cost us the game.

Seems like they need to shut down entrances as sections get close to filling up

Was in the Woodlands the last two days for a CLE. Lots of Beto signs there.

God dammit. Is everyone on this board a lawyer? (yeah, I’m one too)

Those has never been their roots. They have only been rhetoric.

Yeah, I'm coming around to that point. It's not easy to admit you've been buying a lie for most of your life.

The best way to change your own party is to vote for the other one. Cruz loosing will bring more change to the republican party than him winning.

This 100%. As a former Republican voter, I'd love to see the Republican party get back to its roots (or at least to what it claims are its roots) of limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberty and responsibility, etc. I'm likely never going back to them, but it would still be nice to see. The only way it happens is if folks who support them start going against them out of disgust for how they have been operating. Continuing to vote for the corrupt status quo will just encourage the bad behavior.

So as soon as a white face gets put on the issue she's all in for the NFL guys? LOL

Fuck off dude. I said she doesn't like politics, in fact she typically just turns the channel if anything political comes on the news. She's not very informed on the issues, so seeing someone explain what was going on in a rational way that took it beyond the knee jerk "those guys are disrespecting the national anthem/troops/flag" bullshit that she typically hears from her dad and others helped her understand. His whiteness had nothing to do with that issue, although I'm sure she thinks he's sexy. So again, fuck off.
