That lady has zero place in the GOP; WAY too introspective, intelligent, and reasonable.  She seems smart enough to figure it out soon enough.

I think there’s a common misconception that when Trumpism inevitably dies, the GOP will do some kind of pendulum swing back to the party of Eisenhower and anyone who openly supported Trumpism will be denigrated and cast out.  In my opinion that is extremely unlikely.  Yes, they might (MIGHT) embrace less destructive policies/candidates, but theyll just shrug off Trumpists as a blip and not-representative, without at all alienating those voters.  They may not pander to the crazies, but they’ll do enough to keep them in the fold.

I get all guys have slumps but feels like everyone of our guys goes through the longest slumps. A few good games followed up by a black hole of nothing for a month.

Seems like Altuve’s slumps are pretty brief when they happen.  And this is the first year I ever recall feeling like Yordan is in a slump, and he’s been fairly productive even thru this one.  Tucker has been rock solid the last 3+ seasons.  I think Meyers and McCormicks down periods have been injury related more than classic slumps.  I can’t recall how Pena has been, although I’m sure he had prolonged slumps last season; eta: he’s been bad in Jun/July in 2022 and 2023.  Diaz is still adjusting to the majors imho but I guess you could call his May performance a “slump”; he didn’t play early last season then kicked everloving ass in Jun-Sep, and hit well in April.  May has been his first down month as a big leaguer.

Bregman is the one who seems to have prolonged slumps every season.  And Jose Abreu has been in a slump ever since he passed away in 2022 (RIP).

If Singleton could mix in a few well hit balls into the gaps he would really be a plus. His all or nothing swings seem to result in soft miss hit grounders or go over the fence. But he consistently has 7-10 pitch at bats, walks frequently and it may be that the more he contributes, the more comfortable he gets being a part of it, the better he is getting. Even showing a little emotion lately. Or I could be wishful thinking. He’s hitting about Evan Gattis range without the triples. But his spot in the lineup and the field is not a black hole at least and if Bregman ever gets going it will be fine for now. I’m more worried about Javier than Singleton at the moment.

Singleton walks a lot more than Gattis did, hits the ball a little harder (better avg EV and better hard-hit %), and barrels it just as much.  He does not slug as much because of a difference in launch angle, but they are very similarly productive hitters.  If Singleton can figure out how to keep the ball off the ground without sacrificing in other areas, he would be a elite hitter, similar to somebody like Rafael Devers from the Red Sox.

Anyway, until he has a prolonged slump that proves he can’t maintain or improve his current production it is really stupid not to play him 85% of the games.  Any fan would 100% sign up for prime Evan Gattis at 1B right now.

The Astros will start Justin Verlander on Friday, Spencer Arrighetti on Saturday and Ronel Blanco on Sunday against the A’s.

So that put Urquidy to either take Brown’s start on Wednesday or Arrighetti’s next start next Friday?

  5. I am on record as not thinking it would be smart to trade McCormick this year, but I do think it’s worth noting that the current expected crop of position players available at the deadline is extremely weak.  If the White Sox don’t shop Luis Robert and if the Angels hang on to Taylor Ward, McCormick would probably be the best position player available.

There’s no place to play him, but Leon has earned a promotion

Shay Whitcomb is also looking like a meaningful prospect.  Had 30 HR and 20 SB across AA/AAA last season and has cut his k rate dramatically this season while increasing his walk rate.  He looks like Corey Julks but with the ability to play an adequate SS/2B/3B.  If Houston doesn’t figure something out at 3B next season, I’d let Whitcomb compete with Dubon with the loser getting the utility job.  But if I was a rebuilding team, Leon and Whitcomb are 2 guys I would ask for from Houston’s farm.

They really should move Chas if the opportunity presents itself.

Loperfido has been fine and I don't like the idea of his rotting away on the bench.  Would rather send him back down and let Cabbage or Kess rot if we aren't going to play Loperfido consistently.

Loperfido has a 40% strikeout rate masked by a .571 babip.  He’s on the cusp of the plate appearance threshold where k rate starts to stabilize.  He is probably going to improve somewhat but it is very likely that he is going to be a 30%+ k rate player, which will put a lot of pressure on his power, speed, and defense to make him an everyday caliber player.  He will be able to maintain a higher than normal babip because of his speed and how hard he hits the ball, but not anywhere close to what he’s done so far.

Anyway, Houston shouldn’t cut McCormick loose until Loperfido has 150+ pa and they have a better idea of how good he really is, and even then they should only trade McCormick if they get a really good offer.

I have one kid. With the money saved on raising a second or third kid, I can pay someone to wipe my old ass so my one kid doesn’t have to. She can just enjoy being my daughter as I wither away. Assuming I live that long. Otherwise her inheritance will be better.

Well, because of their being far fewer people in the generation that will be of asswiping age when you need that service, you’re going to have to pay a lot more for it.  So if that was your logic for not having another kid, not sure the math works.  But with any luck there will be asswiping AI-powered robots by the time we need them.  So could be a wash.

Chas and Abreu coming back, who’s going back to sugarland ?

Kessinger and Cabbage.  Neither have been playing anyway.  Singleton, Dubon, and Loperfido are going to lose playing time now.  Although it would not shock me if Yordan went on the IL or got a few games in a row off; he looks like he’s battling something in his arms/upper body.

I HATE that they are bringing back Abreu.  He was clearly washed up and all theyre doing is destroying their team momentum to satisfy somebody’s (Crane or Bagwell) ego and pay courtesy to a guy who couldn’t live up to the contract he signed.  Fucking stupid.

I really wonder what is causing Rubio’s shift toward Trump’s nutsack.  He was somewhat sane thru at least the beginning of 2022.  Maybe he’s been promised Sec of State.  I can’t imagine him wanting to be VP.

These debates ain’t happening. GQP is gonna require drug tests. Biden will say no. Wish he would call their bluff. But he can’t dignify their bullshit.

“Biden was so good in the SOTU that he must be juicing” is another odd take by the GOP.  If Trump does start pushing the drug test thing I will be very interested to see how Biden formally responds.

How is this meeting her head on?  You can call her batshit crazy and should do so every time, whenever, wherever, so it becomes the message line--that's part of the job and controlled messaging.  Keep it simple and repeat it every time, until the two are inseparable in the public conscience.  But arguing with a shit throwing gibbon is crazy.

I agree that Crockett would have been better served by saying something like “listen here, you stupid, crazy, bitch: don’t fucking talk to me like that.  You have no credibility, because you constantly lie to get attention.  And if you’re going to insult my appearance, and if the chairman is not going to enforce the rules of behavior that you’re violating, then I will be forced to match your insults.”

But saying what she said was better than not saying anything or quietly telling the chair “I move to strike her words.”

Can you imagine if we raised taxes, made the rich pay their fair share, and then made the freeloaders actually contribute something? Anything at all. Like $300. We could be out of debt in a coupe of years.

“The poorest people each paying $300/yr more in taxes is the answer to our debt crisis” is the most fatty thing yet.  Fucking idiot.

So do we add a pitcher today? Which Triple A gas can do we promote? I assume Mushinski.

I am still not sure the rules, whether on a 25 man roster they could option a position player (Kessinger or Cabbage) to bring up a pitcher.  But if not, their options are:

Proceed with a 5 man rotation for 9 more games and be down a man in the bullpen.  This could spell disaster if Arrighetti or Javier or Brown has another start where they last less than 4 innings.

Option Hunter Brown after his next start and call up Mushinski, who could then be optioned in 4 days to bring up Urquidy early or Henley for one start in Brown’s place.  This could only work if Urquidy is stretched out to 60+ pitches or if they are confident Henley won’t have full blown AIDS like he did in his last start.

Option Martinez today and then rotate Mushinski, Speas, Henley, and Coleman for the next 8 games to ensure there’s always at least one fresh low leverage arm in the pen.  This is probably what I’d do even though it’s unfair to Martinez.
