Another Russia smoking attack. Shopping center go BOOM. Big bada boom.
-
Was hoping for more carnage but that last shot has some nice wing damage. Of course Russia is not going to show the worst damage shots. Just wish Ukrainians had more to work with. If they could have had a salvo of 6-10 fired at once they could've wiped out most of what was on that strip. That would've been a hell of a sucker punch. Now we will see how RU reconfigures their air defenses.
-
If the 1000km range is true then is a game changer if able to produce in quantity. Russian milbloggers are having a conniption fit about their air bases getting bombed.

Long range attacks could be related to this: https://en.defence-ua.com/weapon_and_tech/secret_weapon_by_ukraines_ukroboronprom_1000km_range_75kg_warhead_what_it_can_be-4571.html "Secret Weapon by Ukraine’s Ukroboronprom: 1000km Range, 75kg Warhead. What It Can Be Defense Express ukr.defense.news@gmail.com October 18, 2022 Photo credit: Ukroboronprom The development of remote warfare means for Ukraine is more than important when it comes to the need to destroy targets at a range of hundreds of kilometers Ukraine’s Ukroboronprom State Military Concern published an interesting post announcing about the development of a weapon that will become the longest "arm" of the fire weapons currently available in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Of course, it is quite difficult to guess what it is going to be exactly, but the size of the warhead, the range and the photo of the possible fuselage itself suggest that it may be a fairly large kamikaze drone. That is, the estimated wingspan and weight should be approximately more than 4 meters, and the take-off weight of more than 200 kg. Read more: Ukrainian Police Shooting Down a Shahed Drone During Attack on Kyiv (Video) At the same time, the range of 1000 km (if they meant the range of damage, and not the range of the flight) opens the question regarding the means of guidance. If we do not take into account the purely theoretical possibility of establishing a satellite connection, then such a range does not make it possible to implement a direct control channel. MBDA's Fire Shadow kamikaze drone had a range of up to 100km due to the issue of guidance / Illustrative photo from open sources In these conditions, the simplest implementation will be ordinary satellite navigation, which allows to hit stationary objects with coordinates known in advance. However, its accuracy may not be enough for surgical strikes at targets. In this case the question of accuracy is compensated by mass, and in some cases it is even more expedient. For example, when it comes to the need to disable enemy airfields. More difficult, but much more useful, can be the possibility of installing a passive homing radar head on a kamikaze drone to destroy enemy air defense systems and surveillance radars. At the same time, high-tech means of guidance in autonomous mode are considered quite expensive for the carrier, considering a high probability of interception by the enemy. In particular, it is much more effective to install a conditional thermal imaging homing head with contour recognition in a ground-based stealth cruise missile, which has a much greater chance of breaking through the enemy's air defense system than a slow-moving drone. IAI Harpy is an Israeli kamikaze drone for destroying enemy radars / Illustrative photo from open sources But despite everything, the most important issue is the completion of development terms and the pace of mass production. Because in fact the main advantage of the Shahed-136 is the quantity: the russian federation received a significant number of these kamikaze drones. And the tactics is simple: several dozen drones are launched at the same time, even though only a few of them break through. So, it’s not a question of creation of single samples, but the need for mass production of hundreds of them to achieve the appropriate effect and oversaturate the channels of the enemy's air defense systems. Which, in turn, puts a demand on the cost of such a kamikaze drone, technological production cycles and production capacities.

Wish we were playing by Wrestlemania rules and this was a tag team match. Ukraine tags out and Finland tags in with this guy just in time for winter:

There was a spokesperson that mentioned 100k Ukrainian casualties. Another Kyiv source tried to clarify and said that it was 10-20k KIAs and 80k in casualties. Where about 70k of those did return to front line. So only 30k total out of action. Which sounds like too much sunshine pumping for me. I would love to believe it but I'm guessing it's quite higher than that. How much is the trillion dollar question. Undoubtedly UA has the superior kill ratio but it is really hard to project total number of boots on the ground.
-
Hopefully some huddled Russian groups can become prime artillery target practice.
-
Is there still an Oshmans Sports around? Used to hit that up at Northcross Mall as a kid and then go across the street to Swensens Ice Cream. Also plus rep for the Hastings mention...I would go to the north side one in RR.

Well talking about Russian disinformation, this Riga chica does a great job dismantling Russian propaganda.

Galeev has a thread going into more details about the new restrictions on personal aid. It sounds completely idiotic but it's simply a matter of authoritatarian control. Anything operating outside of the Kremlin or its approved oligarchs is seen as a threat. Even though people are trying to do what the government should be doing: providing for their troops. Thank goodness they are such power starved dipshits. When I first heard about the mobniks forced into buying their own gear with marked up prices I was stunned. Not sure if it's all mail ordered or if they have some regional warehouses but my first reaction as a mobnik would be taking the company on the first field exercise: looting the general store. Just tell the owner to bill Vova Putin for everything and if he didn't like that then he can be part of the live fire drills. Seriously boggles the mind how fucked up that whole country is.

Rojo just asked Baylor, HOW MY ASS TASTE!

Whataboutism 101 - just because we have an American committing warcrimes doesn’t excuse the Russians.

Jeebus, not sure how much is true but Prigozhin is trying to incorporate more crazy prison culture into Wagner. The anally raped can serve but they have to be on the far end of the trench. Srsly wtf?

There really needs to be an amendment for the EU and also the UN that if you have a 90% majority then you should be able to give them the full Jeremy Piven GTFO gif treatment. No more hanging on due to some technicality. If 90% of the world hates you then you shouldn't be allowed to continue your clown shit show as UN security council member, betraying the fundamental aspect of the position.

That would be my guess as well. Didn't think they would try a full fledged flanking manuever on the peninsula but then again I didn't expect Zelensky to be parading his grande balls around Kherson mere days after liberation. Maybe the giant coconuts are contagious? And UA is planning an amphibious assault by hydroplaning all the way there on their giant nuts.
-
Hope that Kherson is the equivalent of the Battle of Ulm. An encirclement that reduced a significant portion of the Coalition's forces. Napoleon took out Austrian's main force before the Russians could join up and reinforce. Which eventually led to the coup de grace at Austerlitz.
-
So I have to admit my interest is piqued if these rumors about the extent of Russian losses are true. Because that makes a huge difference in personal joy in recovering Kherson. It is a bit hard to fathom that a few months ago news about winning back Kherson would be ho-hum for me. If there was news like that back in July there would have been celebrations like the Moskva sunk all over again. But we have reached the point that Ukraine has demonstrated the ability to counter-attack and recover large stretch of territory. The Kherson situation has been fascinating because it has been the best opportunity to attrite Russian forces. Winning the city is a key politically and strategically but in my mind permanently damaging Russian military capabilities is more important for reaching those final goals - recovering all the pre-2014 borders. I have been concerned that Russia would be able to fully withdraw with minimal losses. So it has been a fine line in trying to recover the city with minimal losses (including civilians) but also keeping Russians pinned down to inflict max casualties. My dream goal was to reclaim the city before EOY and see 10-20k in KIAs/WIAs/surrenders along with losses of heavy equipment. Hopefully stories are true and maybe we can get some numbers close to that.

Hopefully his head explodes from all the contradictions.

Poles have been having some fun outside the Hungarian embassy in Warsaw. It's a new game called pull the Orban out of Putin's ass.
-
Well we have seen plenty examples of Russians demonstrating advanced tactics such as drive balls-to-the-walls into a minefield or bailing out once coming under artillery fire. I think it's more evidence of their overall poor training. It's not just driving the tanks but lacking the combined arms training to be effective. No infantry support with their tanks, poor coms for combined air or artillery support, etc.

Noice, new speed run record. We will see if some other orc is able to break that record.

So the subs can't operate out of the Novorossiyka port? I thought they had relocated most of their fleet over there once Sevastopol got in range. I'm trying to figure out what port options they have left on the Black Sea. Hoping to push them in a corner where we can see some real damage. Hopefully some swabbies can chime in here and explain what tactics might work from the Ukrainian position.
-
Awesome news about the attacks on the ships in Sevastopol. I love that this nation without any functioning navy has been able to fuck up so much of the Russian fleet. Does Ukraine have any capability to sink subs? If they can advance into Crimea starting next spring, kick them fully out of Sevastopol, and force them into Novorossiyka, could they eventually target the 6 subs still active in the Black Sea? If Ukraine can secure Kerch then they should be in HIMARS range with Novorossiyka. Does Russia have any other military capable ports in the Black Sea? Would love to degrade as much Russian naval capability as possible. The project 636 subs I believe were priced at 350M each. The project 11356R frigate that was just hit was priced between 450-500M. All of this was priced pre-sanctions. Reconstituting any naval forces is going to be a magnitude more difficult under their current conditions. So anytime I hear one of these ships get scuttled I feel like it's a 90 yard pick-six return for a TD.
