  1. No, but the guy who got Patterson hired (and almost got us in the Pac 12 as he is the go between for UT and Larry Scott) is a family friend. I personally never liked Patterson, but agreed with the hope that he would shrink the bloat of Belmont (shitcan Plonsky, but she was a friend and mentor of the family friend), which he never did and instead shrank the fan experience. The last thing I would want to do is go down the route of being a small program. But, I don't trust CDC to make the a hire that will turn the program around with the choices we have currently. I essentially want to buy time to eventually get a big fish yet convince BMDs to spend the $25mn to fire Herman now. I was pissed that Mack Brown and Joe Jamail screwed our chances to get Saban. We would have paid Saban $50-$60mn over 5 years and now we have spent that much on buyouts alone over this period. The next time we go after a Saban, Meyer, Dabo type we will need to spend $100mn+. I am afraid if we don't learn from our past mistakes, the money will not be there to do it. There has to be a limit to how many times we can go to the well to buy out coaches.
  2. These candidates all suck and are likely to be no better than Herman. I have posted this on other threads, but this is why we need to think outside the box and completely change how contracts are written in college football! We need a sellable plan to the BMDs that we can buy out Herman and his assistants, yet not cost much more than if we kept Herman. Herman has $18.75mn left for the final 3 years of his deal and a $15mn buyout. If we offered only a $4.5mn guaranteed contract over 3 years, we would be paying only $750k more than if we kept Herman for the next 3 years and we would get rid of his smug ass and save our 2022 recruiting class! Why do we have to keep giving these G5 coaches a 5 year $5mn per year guaranteed contract coming off $1-$2mn contracts at their small schools? This just leads to our constant cycle of locking into the wrong guy and having to beg big donors to buyout bad contracts. We should reset how contracts in football are made by finding coaches who are hungry to win at UT. Offer a short-term incentive-laden contract, which is say 3 years and a $1.5mn per season. But, you get a $2mn bonus for a 10 win season, an added $1.5mn bonus if you beat OU, an added $2mn bonus if you win a conference championship, an added $2 million bonus if you make the playoffs, an added $2mn bonus if you make the championship game and another $2 mn bonus if you win the National Championship. So, we are only guaranteeing $4.5mn over 3 years, but a coach can make up to $13mn and should make at least $5mn (win 10 games and beat OU or win conference). We can always extend 2 years if he is a badass for recruiting purposes. We can also offer EVERYTHING we offered Meyer like $3mn for assistants, complete control and his own assistant AD for recruiting who can coordinate player “imaging rights” with big donors going forward, etc. That way we have some institutional deniability and reason to fire with cause yet provide CDC and Hartzell some cover should the new assistant AD/new coach get caught stretching the limits by a completely neutered NCAA (i.e. we won't be punished by the NCAA bc we will be doing what every $EC school does) Coaches like Jamey Chadwell (who has worked miracles at Coastal Carolina, which did not even have football 4 years ago, and who makes just $375,000), Jeff Traylor (who makes a base of $800k at UTSA), or Bill Napier (who only makes $880k and up to just $950k at Louisiana Lafayette) would totally jump at this contract offer! They would just want the chance to be the UT coach, much less double or more their base salary and have a potential to make $5mn+ just for meeting expectations and up to $13mn in a year.
  3. They would consider it if you are only guaranteeing to pay him what you would pay Tom Herman if you kept him the remaining 3 years. I have posted this in the other threads, but this is why we need to think outside the box and completely change how contracts are written in college football! We need a sellable plan to the BMDs that we can buy out Herman and his assistants, yet not cost much more than if we kept Herman. Herman has $18.75mn left for the final 3 years of his deal and a $15mn buyout. If you only guaranteed Traylor $4.5mn over 3 years, you are risking $750k more than if we kept Herman, but you get rid of the smug, asshole Herman! Why do we have to keep giving these G5 coaches a 5 year $5mn per year guaranteed contract coming off $1-$2mn contracts at their small schools? This just leads to our constant cycle of locking into the wrong guy and having to beg big donors to buyout bad contracts. 6. So you don’t think Jamey Chadwell who has worked miracles at Coastal Carolina, which did not even have football 4 years ago, and whom makes just $375,000 wouldn’t take a guaranteed 2mn per year to be the head coach at UT with the potential to make $12mn per year? How about Bill Napier who only makes $880k and up to just $950k at Louisiana Lafayette?
  7. I am in total agreement with this concept! Why do we have to keep giving these G5 coaches a 5 year $5mn per year guaranteed contract coming off $1-$2mn contracts at their small schools? So, we are only guaranteeing $6mn over 3 years, but a coach can make up to $12mn and should make at least $4mn and we can always extend 2 years if he is a badass for recruiting purposes. We can also offer complete control and his own assistant AD for recruiting who can coordinate player “imaging rights” with big donors going forward.
  8. Honestly 50!50 for me. Adam Gase is the dream coach for the Jets at this stage! He couldn’t coach his team to a victory if he tried. He easily makes it through the season! If no Urban Meyer, I could honestly see Tom Herman coming back for a season or even fulfill his contract like Shaka Smart! At some point BMDs will make the analytical decision to stop throwing good money after bad. All non Urban Meyer candidates suck, so why spend $25mn to get rid of your suck ass coach to have to spend another $25mn 3-4 years later to fire that coach after you have already pissed away $50mn on buyout for two coaches in the last 4 years?
  9. I predict that unfortunately the number of pages on this thread will be like Covid deaths will more than double (I predict 1,000 plus pages) before there is an answer. I think posters have put WAY too much emphasis on NSD1 as an arbitrary reason why UM would want to accept today, which would cause the firing of Herman before the Sunday night press conference. The question that needs to be asked are what absolutely necessary 2021 recruits are highly flippable at this late stage that can be flipped by NSD1? I can only see the Brockemeyers as the prize to want to speed the process to the next couple of days as presumably they picked Saban as the coach who can get them to the NFL and win NCs and not Alabama over Texas as a school. If there are many more highly crucial recruits that can be flipped in the next two weeks, then maybe UM would want to speed the process. But if there are not highly flippable key recruits or these positions can be filled with the special COVID one-time transfer rule or the transfer pool, then it is in Urban Meyer’s best interest to wait until after the season is over to not have the circus disrupt OSU coaching preparation for the Michigan game as surely the OSU coaches going with him will be announced. This way he fills his Fox contract obligation, there is less disruption for OSU/Michigan, and there is less blowback on firing TH one game before the season is over.
  10. It did as of the most recent UCL games! I watched Man City play all 3 of their first Round Robin games in Group C. I can also now get all of the 2pm CDT games right now! 😬
  11. I just paid $6.25 to get CBS All Access through Amazon Prime to watch Man City vs Olympiakos and the game nor is the Shaktar Donesk game feed coming on. It worked fine before I cancelled CBS All Access after last UCL. Is anyone else having this issue? I am furious bc the ONLY reason I am paying the $6.25 is to watch Man City play Champions League!! Does anyone have an illegal link where I don't have to provide any information to login?
  12. There is not a Champions League 2020-2021 thread
  13. Can you provide a link please?

  15. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMOiwtrYXbw At least subcontract the Black Foxes! You can be the most ardent white trash Trump supporter, but there is NO WAY you don't find this arousing! I then went down the rabbit hole of watching other HBCU marching bands and their dance teams. OMG are they fun, particuarly their entrances into the stadium (recommended watch)! Please do defund our boring LHB and subcontract Prairie View A&M marching band and the Black Foxes! Talk about doing more with less! We could make extra money with the extra seats!
  16. That is exactly my point. There is not a coach that is good enough to be a virtual guarantee to turn UT football around that would be worth paying $25mn to buyout current staff and then on top of that guarantee another $25-$35mn over 5 years. I would much rather lockdown a more certain future in guaranteeing Urban Meyer or Shanahan $50mn then potentially piss away another $25-$35mn and be in the same boat 3 years later! Therefore, unfortunately in this environment, if we can't lock down Urban Meyer or Shanahan with an offer that is too good to refuse, the prudent thing to do is just wait a year, reduce the buyout by $10mn and let Herman completely implode without this year's senior class.
  17. It is hard to find a team even close to UT in underperforming their talent, particularly considering we have a 4 year starter at QB who was a pre-season heisman candidate. Yes, you could argue LSU, but they had 14 players drafted in the last NFL draft (a record tying # and a record tying 5 in the first round, including #1 overall), have a new QB and offensive coordinator, had 4 NFL top talents opt-out due to Covid, and they can hang their hats on the fact that they are the defending national champion. The only team even close is Florida St. But, they had a losing record last year and have a new coaching staff.
  18. Unfortunately, I think it is a simple decision. CDC needs to get pledges from the BMDs to buyout the coaching staff and make a serious run at Urban Meyer to give him an offer he cannot refuse. If Meyer refuses or you don’t raise the $35mn needed, then you have to keep Tom Herman one more year knowing full well he will fail next year after losing his senior class. After the 2021 season, you have a more clear budget picture, shaved $7-$10mn off the buyout, no longer have the poor optics of laying off and furloughing people to save $13mn, and allow for a full normal year for a coaching candidate to emerge (after first making another maybe more lucrative run at Meyer). Other than Urban Meyer or Kyle Shanahan (no fucking way he leaves the NFL), I just don’t see ANY obvious candidate that you would want to guarantee an additional $25-$35mn over 5 years. That being said, I desperately want UT to sign Urban Meyer NOW! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. It created the domino effect for why we are here today. Had Mack Brown not used his Joe Jamail team of legal henchman to refuse to let Texas hire Saban, bc Saban would be even more successful than him, we would likely be what Alabama is today. Instead the chain of events of hiring the hot AAC coach of the day has led to the collapse of the program. Now hopefully we will not continue the same path and right the wrong first created by Mack Brown and hire the closest thing to Nick Saban, Urban Meyer! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Someone please explain the $30mn buyout for Tom Herman! His buyout is $5mn per season and he has 3 years left after this season. That is $15mn. Assistant coaches have 2-3 year contracts and therefore 1-2 years left and the average pay is like $350k (coordinators are $1mn). That is at most $5mn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Hutchins in Frisco and McKinney is one of the best large restaurant BBQ in the state of Texas! It is hard to be open 7 days a week and serve buffet style BBQ (before Covid-19 had $25 "All You Can Eat" BBQ which was an incredible deal) and still be this damn good! Their jalepeno and cheddar sausage is incredible! Hutchins is probably #3 in DFW behind Cattleack and very close to Pecan Lodge. But working off a 10.0 scale where less than a hadnful of places are 9.7 or higher, I would rate Hitchins in the 8.8-8.9 range. To put this into perspective, I would put LA BBQ in the 9.6-9.7 range, Valentina's in the 9.3-9.4 range (and 9.8+ when including tacos and ranking for overall Texas Best Food places), Louis Mueller in the 9.4-9.5 range, Micklethwait in the 8.1-8.2 range. As it relates to other large, mass BBQ establishments, I would score Rudy's in the 6.4-6.5, Hard Eight at 6.8-6.9, Spring Creek at 4.4-4.5, and Dickey's at 1.1-1.2.
  22. ZeroZeroZero is awesome start to end. I could not recommend it more if you are like me and are hungering for more "Narcos". Like "Narcos" much of the dialogue is in the native language (and are therefore subtitled) in two of the three simultaneous stories. I prefer it this way bc it feels more authentic as it gives the more real feeling the you are dropped into the scene as an observer. The American brother/sister storyline of "The Brokers" is the weakest link, but this storyline is still intense and an enjoyable watch. You will have to get used to the flashback convention that is used to tie the 3 simultaneous stories of "The Buyers" (Italian Mob), "The Sellers" (Mexican Cartel), and "The Brokers" (New orleans shipping family) that continually rotate and are all interconnected.
  23. My Favorite band, The Airborne Toxic Event, is releasing their new album "Hollywood Park' on May 22nd, their first release in over 3 years and is scheduled to play at Emo's on May 29th (and the House of Blues in Dallas May 31st) as well as ACL. If you like old Radio Head, then you will LOVE The Airborne Toxic Event. Here is the first single "Come on Out":
  24. Zero, Zero, Zero is awesome start to end. I could not recommend it more if you are like me and are hungering for more "Narcos". Like "Narcos" much of the dialogue is in the native language in two of the three simultaneous stories. I prefer it this way bc it feels more authentic as it gives the more real feeling the you are dropped into the scene as an observer. The American brother/sister "The Brokers" is the weakest link, but is still intense much of the time. You will have to get used to the flashback convention that is used to tie each story that rotates between the 3 simultaneous stories of "The Buyers" (Italian Mob), "The Sellers" Mexican Cartel), and "The Brokers" (New orleans shipping family) that continually rotate.
  25. Because of Narcos, I can't fully enjoy a show where THERE AREN'T subtitles and the actors are speaking English in a foreign country! It feels totally inauthentic to me if Mexican cartel member are speaking in English to each other in Mexico! I hate it even more when actors can't even fake an accent of the country where a show is taking place. This nearly ruined "Chernobyl" (all British accents in the Ukraine!) even though it was an otherwise great show and the same for "Jo Jo Rabbit" as I could not stand the child actors not even trying to use a German accent. All of the adults in "Jo Jo Rabbit" at least had German accents, while the kids had British accents. On the flip side, I LOVED Zero, Zero,Zero in part because it used subtitles like Narcos.
