  1. Admittedly I've always been a Sammy fan. Whoever mentioned 14 years old before is on to something - I was 14 and standing about 15 feet from Sammy doing his thing with Gary Phil and Electric Bill Church at the Texas Jam in 83 when it all clicked. Sammy, Ted Nugent, and Ric Emmet came out and did some Zeppelin covers to close his show right before Styx came out and killed the crowd with fucking Mr Roboto. That's the day it all really started for me.

  2. I love a good Dave Vs Sammy Van Halen debate...

The original Van Halen lineup straight up changed the rock and will world forever. Just fantastic stuff. And better than the Sammy stuff in all accounts.

However, as I've stated many times before, I think the Sammy VH stuff just doesn't get near the credit it deserves. That was a great band and they wrote some damn great songs. And frankly I think Eddie deserves a ton of credit for realizing it was over with Dave and having the courage to blow it up and go the direction they did.

Also I've never understood the Sammy hate. Dave definitely had more of the dangerous rock and roll swagger in the early years than Sammy. But Dave is the douchebag, not Sammy.

  3. This. Satch has actually written some groovy tunes. Satch Boogie and Summer Song come to mind.

I grew up on shredders but these days I'd probably rather watch someone like Jason Isbell or Mike Campbell play over anyone mentioned in this discussion.

  4. Mack won a shit ton of games plain and simple.

Except it's not plain and simple.

Won a bunch of games, but often went fetal against ou with 4 awful blowout losses and one shutout with Vince fucking young on the field.

Nearly won the whole thing again in 09, but failed to have a back up qb (see Nick Saban this past year for the benefits of a serviceable back up) and then followed it up with 5 and fucking 7.

Did a great job bringing the former players back in the fold, but then had the audacity to tell Earl fucking Campbell he's still welcome on the 40.

Set a whole new bar for recruiting the likes of which we hadn't seen in decades, then went nearly a decade without recruiting a single QB or OL that could play worth two shits.

I'm not trying to tell you or anyone else what opinion to have of the man or his legacy. But it sure ain't plain and simple. In fact I'd argue it's the definition of complicated.
  5. Has anyone taken out one of the tone knobs on a Strat and moved the volume knob down?

Because I would totally do that.

I don’t have a Strat now, but thinking ahead of how I would build my perfect partscaster.

Doesn't bother me. I like it close. That said I don't think I've ever turned a tone knob on a strat.

  6. I saw that in an article the other day that also discussed some rare Lambo of Paul McCarney's that was also supposed to be auctioned. The Sevies Nocaster was expected to bring more than sir Paul's hot rod. As it should be.

  7. Good lord on those Les Pauls.

I love them but it's crazy what people will spend, when the reality is a shitty player like me will sound just as shitty on a $32k guitar and a good player will sound just as good on a way cheaper one.
