Yep - that's also what I tell my broker when I insist he puts a large percentage of my portfolio in highly leveraged S&P ETF's.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, you need a new broker yesterday.  Those are intended for *daily* investments.  Unless you're rebalancing your positions daily, your return can be the opposite of what you expect due to volatility.

I didn't read the details of the case, but the bottom line is you can be sued and found liable for damages if you lie and misrepresent a product you're selling.

Yeah, I didn't see anything about lying and misrepresenting.

This is from a longer article:

Brees described growing so close to Moradi over the course of about 15 years that he completely believed the jeweler when he said the diamonds were investments that would rapidly appreciate and likely weather downturns in the economy such as the 2008 financial collapse.

However, problems brewed when an appraiser told the Breeses in 2017 that they had paid roughly $7 million more for the collection than it was worth. The appraiser’s opinion was that the $8 million ring was worth roughly half of that.

Brees sued last year, asserting that Moradi admitted to obscenely marking up the diamonds and explaining that away by saying the prices were what they could be resold for in a number of years.

So two guys disagreed about what diamonds are worth.   I'm not aware of any valuation formulas that can tell you what a diamond ring is actually worth.

The key here is the guy sold it to them as an investment, not as jewelry. That changes things.

I guess what I'm wondering is why he didn't take that $3.75M diamond ring to the appraiser who told him it was worth that much before he paid $8M for it.  That shouldn't be so hard to do, should it?

Among the most egregious examples Brees' attorneys pointed to was a diamond ring Moradi sold the Breeses for $8.1 million that was actually worth $3.75 million.

The lawsuit, filed in San Diego Superior Court last year, accused Moradi and his company, CJ Charles Jewelers, of selling Brees and his wife Brittany several supposedly investment grade diamonds that were supposed to appreciate in value.

I honestly didn't realize that you could successfuly sue someone because you paid them too much for something.

This is way over.  Great season Tech.  They seem to get closer and closer to the big game every time they go to Omaha.  It should be Champs or nothing less from now on.

My old house in Woodcreek/Wimberley does not have city sewage and wastewater, yet we paid property tax to the city.  Do I need a lawyer to get me 20 years' of refunds?

Never mind, just got the distinction.  They provided it, but we opted out because they provided it through AquaTexas, one of the worst companies on the planet.

    Historically

I really enjoyed the Sunday Night Baseball crew of Jon Miller and Harry Morgan as they were on every Sunday from when I was 1 until I was 21. On the college football side give me the 11AM Big XII match-up between Colorado and Texas Tech with Joel Meyers giving the play by play. I'll also take an Astros booth of Bill Brown and Alan Ashby.

    Current:

First on the color side is Razor and right behind him is Geoff Blum. Play by play I'll take Sean McDonough or Brad Nessler. I like Fran Fraschilla in college basketball. Pro football has to be the Sunday night crew of Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth but that's mainly for nostalgia reasons.

This is such a terrible post.  Harry Morgan?  And Geoff Blum might be the only guy dumber than Joe Morgan who has ever been on TV.

What all these dumbasses clamoring for these houses to be taxed doesn't realize is that under state law the city has to provide sewer and wastewater for all of these houses and they currently do not.

  9. His parents were awesome.  You could talk to his dad for 2 minutes and know he was a former coach.  His mom would sit in a lawn chain waaaay down the line past the bullpen, near the outfield fence, and would scream at the umpires.  One time, I asked her why she always sat down there.  She said something like, "Have you heard what some of those idiots in the stands yell at my son?  It's better for the general peace if I stay away from them."

  10. When researching Colorado prospects over the past decade, I could not help but notice that they all seemed to be coming from Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Pueblo.

When researching Washington prospects over the past decade, I could not help but notice that they all seemed to be coming from Seattle/Tacoma, and Spokane.

When researching Alaska prospects over the past decade, I could not help but notice that they all seemed to be coming from Anchorage and Fairbanks.

When researching Arizona prospects over the past decade, I could not help but notice that they all seemed to be coming from the same five cities: Chandler, Scottsdale, Tucson, Gilbert, and Phoenix. Only 4 of the 61 players rated as 4-stars or better over the past decade in Arizona have come from any other city. Things don’t get much clear-cut than that.

Has this guy never fucking looked at a map of Arizona?
