27 Years ago today, Game 5 of the NBA Finals was interrupted by one Orenthal James Simpson was on his slow motion chase in his White Ford Bronco.

Wow! I remember watching this with my parents after a Dixie League game (we didn't have LL in my hometown).

  2. So thankful for this program and my daily reprieve. I was presented with a legal scenario a little over a week ago that would have lead me to a drink if it weren't for the program. Instead, I see it as an opportunity to make some amends and right some wrongs of my past.

Grateful to be here. It's a good day to have  a good day.

  3. I was getting on an elevator at work and my ear bud slipped out. It was slow motion watching it hit the floor then roll directly for the gap between the floor and elevator. Right as it was going to fall in the gap it bounced and skipped right over it stopping about an inch away.

Probably belongs in the wives thread, but she’s ex wife now. She managed to drop her keys in that elevator gap at work once. Building maintenance had to go retrieve them.
  4. For any of you dog lovers. I’d ask you look into an organization called dogs matter. They foster pets while people are in treatment. They’re based in dfw but looking to expand into Austin.

  5. I went to a Big Book study retreat this weekend with my sponsor and sponsor family hosted by my great-great-grand sponsor. There were 96 men there from 7 different states with sobriety ranging everywhere from less than week up to 40 years. A lot of knowledge, experience, and hope was shared throughout the weekend. As someone still early into this, it was eye-opening and I feel like I'm seeing the real AA for the first time. The theme of the weekend was "Above Everything". Ultimately, I have to put my sobriety above everything and the biggest way I can do that is by being of service.

What you said about compound lifting for jelly bellies is spot on.

Weight loss is 90% of what you put in to your mouth. You can’t outrun a bad diet. The other 10% is exercise (weight lifting, CrossFit, HIIT).

Any advice on how to ease into this or develop a workout routine? I've done very little weight lifting in my life. Most of my weight is carried in the gut.

  7. Charges dropped.

DALLAS - A judge dropped the murder charges against the fired Dallas police officer who was released from the Dallas County jail Wednesday night.

Even the district attorney’s office agreed with Bryan Riser’s lawyer that there was not enough proof to hold him for trial in two murder-for-hire cases that date back to 2017.

During a court hearing Wednesday, the Dallas Police Department’s lead detective admitted that police used faulty information to persuade another judge to give them an arrest warrant.

That included cellphone records that incorrectly claimed Riser was at or near the murder scenes.

The prosecution also said it warned Dallas police leadership twice there was not enough probable cause to move forward with a case against Riser but the department went ahead with the arrest last month.

Riser’s lawyer said DPD’s new chief, Eddie Garcia, should not have ordered the arrest.

"You’ve seen the affidavit which had all kinds of mistakes in it – is, I guess, what they relied on," said defense attorney Toby Shook. "To cause him to be jailed for more than a month, to ruin his reputation based on the flimsiest of evidence. So that’s the major problem with this case is the decision by Chief Garcia to order that arrest."

"The experience has been hell. It’s been a nightmare that we haven’t been able to wake up from," said Eboni Samuel Riser, Bryan Riser’s wife. "How do you restore someone’s credibility? How do you restore their... can he get another job now?"

Dallas police are not likely to reinstate him, saying the murder case was not the only reason he was fired.

"It is important to note that investigators followed the legal process and presented two probable cause affidavits to a Dallas County District judge for review and sufficient probable cause was found," the department said in a statement Wednesday night.

The case is still open and subpoenas are still out.

But Riser’s attorney pointed out that after what came out in court Wednesday, any evidence would have to be very compelling to arrest him again.

For you guys doing Keto, are you hard core measuring everything out? I've done it before and I know that it works well for me.

    Yes.

Thanks, I started back Monday and haven't weighed anything, just avoided carbs. I started tracking with my fitness pal yesterday and managed to only get in 1,100 calories, but never felt hungry.  Percentage wise, it was pretty close to the percentages set in my daily goals. Just for reference I'm 6ft, 300lbs. At my heaviest, I was 350 and had gastric sleeve about 5 years ago and dropped down to around 230 at my lowest. I do still some portion size restrictions when I eat certain things, but I can pretty much eat normal portion sizes.

  9. I was talking to a guy that worked at the GM plant in Arlington the other day and he mentioned that  this is there biggest holdup is in production. That's why car lots look empty right now.

  10. I just discovered Hobo Shoestring, he's a train hopper and documents different trips. Living the dream I guess, here is a ride from Shreveport to Dallas, he starts the video describing a local gas station and the food there.

Claiming a portion of Earth's surface for one's self for eternity seems like the ultimate hubris. Both my parents are being cremated. Dad says he wants no service at all; just go have a nice steak dinner in NYC on him. Mom says throw a party at a nice Houston restaurant and scatter her ashes at Memorial Park. Seems simple enough.

    Bernard

Truth, but my great great grandfather or something like that bought a family plot in Wolfe City of all places sometime after the Civil War for like $5 is the story I've heard. Mom did say she wanted to be buried there, so I think we used the last remaining plot for her.

  12. My Mom passed suddenly had we had to plan almost everything from scratch. She already had a plot that had been passed down from previous generations, and it made it a little easier that the funeral home we used managed that cemetery but that was it.  If they already have plots, talk to the cemetery about what they require, then like everyone said talk to the funeral home.
