  1. Did you read the nyntimes article? That’s a complete distortion of what it was about.
  2. That’s not exactly saying a whole lot. But it’s really really good. Also it’s a cool little place with a good atmosphere and cold drinks.
  3. Thank you for the help. It’s really good and for a place that is “out of town” everyone mentions it. I think it’s 5 miles out from the ferry landing. Really good pasta, too. edit- port a brewing closed. It’s tortugas now which is the same people that own Fins and Daddymacs. Really like Fins these days and Daddy’s gets me through a fix when I’m dying for barbecue but it’s not centex worthy. Most everything we’ve had at Tortugas has been very good too. They also own the pirate ship, and Deep Sea Headqurters for offshore fishing or dolphin watch tours.
  4. Well I tried to answer and I think I understood what he is asking. If you mean the visa part I don’t know. Good to hear. They also could have paid someone to fake a negative test.
  5. Bluewater Cowboy has good sushi and a pretty good regular menu. And another good burger spot is Bernie’s bar and you can enjoy dollar drafts or 2 dollar wells while you wait. Lisabella’s at Cinnamon Shore is pricy but good food. There’s also a pizza/Italian place out there that is really good. Can’t think of the name right now. You’ve got a pretty good list. La Palma, rock n roll sushi, angry marlin, and padre pizzeria are the ones on your list that are not in port a. Edit- Coaches for breakfast or cheesesteak but it is tiny and can have a really long wait. Pretty much everywhere will have a long wait if you are here while it’s busy. Places like Venetian and Lisabella’s you won’t be able to get in without a reservation. Yeah Castaways was there and moved across the street to where Phoenix was. Phoenix is now out at Island Moorings.
  6. I like a bunch of other places in Port A but for sure you are missing Venetian Hot Plate for a nice meal and Fins for casual. Never thought I’d be saying that but their food quality is way better than it used to be. It’s still a little touristy and pricy for what it is - think Virginia’s or Trout Street or Moby Dick’s. All of those places have similar price points. But the food at Fins is better and it’s replaced Kody’s in our rotation. giggity’s and harbor lights are closed for good. And yes Shorty’s is moving November 1st so I don’t know how long they will take to get up and running. Shouldn’t take too long since they are moving the building to its new spot at the corner of Allister and Beach Street.
  7. That depends on what country you get stuck in. Since the testing is required by the U.S. to return I imagine some countries don’t give a shit where you stay after a positive test and then some countries would have a fairly strict quarantine policy.
  8. https://www.forbes.com/advisor/travel-insurance/best-pandemic-travel-insurance/ I used Trawick for Costa Rica travel. It was cheap and covered a lot in addition to Covid. Never used it but I assume it would have been pretty easy.
  9. Hi @troph im getting some really good offers right now but for a bigger boat and more than I want to spend. Text me
  10. Waiting on interior pics and numbers. Price is right. could be yacht finish could be charter finish. I’m expecting the latter. Boat market is absolutely horrible right now for buyers.
  11. They are clearing about 3500 a month. It’s a very nice 4 bedroom with a pool on the road up to Manuel Antonio. But that’s since November so I’m real curious to see what happens in the off-season. Or you can buy a really nice house down there for cheap as long as you don’t buy in the tourist spots. Of course that means you won’t be able to rent it out when you aren’t there. The market there has gone really soft compared to the prices we were seeing 6 or 7 years ago. How much of that is Covid related I don’t know. I have a good friend that’s a realtor in Los Suenos/Jaco and when I go back next month we will have a long talk. My other issue I have to work out is I just listed my boat. I’ll go crazy down there without a boat so if it sells quickly I’m going to be scrambling to find a replacement. I have a feeling I’ll be sitting out at least one season and hoping the market comes back to reality. If it doesn’t I’ll probably have to buy a CR flagged boat that I can have my captain run charters on to help with the expenses.
  12. Between surly and my family I’ve already decided I don’t need a house I’ll need a hotel. And I thought Port A was bad. pretty sure I’m going to rent something for 6 months or a year to make sure it’s the right decision and also see what happens with my house here. I’m not going to sell so I’ll put it in the STR pool with a property management company. If the market stays the same that will fully fund CR plus I’ll make a decent amount. After that I’d probably buy something there. We met some good people down there this year from Ft. Worth that moved down full time about 6 months ago. They bought a really nice house that they list on Airbnb and when it’s rented out they just go stay in a condo in Jaco. They shared some of the financials on that deal with me and it’s definitely working.
  13. Yeah the rain up there isn’t all that bad. You can get unlucky and be there when it rains all day but that isn’t normal. I’m starting to look into moving down full time or at least for a year and see how it goes. Or if I’m being honest I’ve been thinking about it a long time but my girlfriend finally decided she’s ready to give it a shot. If I can get everything worked out it’ll happen this summer. Stay tuned.
  14. You realize Alamo Heights is a 4A district right? I don’t think you can compare them to AISD, HISD, and Frisco. Regardless, Alamo Heights is extremely affordable right now compared to Austin. If I lived in Austin right now and had school aged children I’d sell and move to that part of San Antonio. I’m somewhat tempted to sell my Port Aransas house for a huge profit and buy something in 78209 and something in Costa Rica and just split my time between the two.
  15. Yup. Port Aransas locals are fucked these days. There is no affordable housing left. I looked the other day when this thread started and there are THREE single family homes listed below 500,000. 2 are teardowns. Price per square foot is running 400+ for literal beach shacks and if the house was built after Hurricane Harvey it’s over 500. It’s insane. To make matters worse almost all the RV parks aren’t doing long term anymore and are kicking out people that have been there for years and years.
  16. Yup, my Southwest international flight last week the flight attendants didn’t give 2 fucks what anyone did with their masks. Really pleasant flight.
  17. I wouldn’t do the Caribbean side. Arenal is great and you can do the cloud forest near there on the same trip. Or do the northern Pacific beaches. Honestly the best trip is Corcovado National Park down south on the Osa peninsula. It’s like Jurassic park. But you really can’t go wrong anywhere here. You weren’t even in Manuel Antonio long enough to explore it and the surrounding area.
  18. Nicole is really good peeps. We met her for the first time at the surly tailgates last season. Any woman who can hang and put up with us at an event like that is ok in my book. She’s also fun to be around.
  19. I’ve seen the dogs but it’s always been leaving the country. One of my last trips going through security a 6 month old German Shepard jumped on to the luggage x-ray machine as my bag and others were coming out. They pulled me aside and searched my bag. Of course they didn’t find anything but I’m sure it smelled like weed because pretty much everyone I’m around down here smokes. I got a little worried when they took a picture of my passport but I haven’t had any issues since then.
  20. I’ve only been up there once and that was about 7 years ago. The resort was so nice and relaxing we basically just stayed on property the whole time but did go into La Fortuna one night for a great meal and drinks. yes bring some cash and it’s best to bring mostly 10’s 5’s and 1’s. I’ve never flown into Liberia. San Jose customs is a joke no stoplight system they just have you put your bag through an X-ray machine.I’ve been stopped exactly one time and that was because my buddy had a cooler full of ribs and brisket. Fuckers took most but not all of it I guess so they could have a nice dinner that night. @midtown I think has been there fairly recently and I know some others have too. Have a great trip.
  21. That wasn’t syntex. Pretty sure it was texlarry.
  22. I appreciate what he’s doing but it makes the thread almost unreadable when you are just trying to scan it for new news. I don’t think we need to see every post about a tank or whatever that’s another trophy.
  23. Not really fishing but this was pretty cool last night. There was a hatch in the marina. Not sure if the snook were protecting their babies or they were just full.
