  1. Remember this? In a 2016 conversation with fellow members of House leadership, the majority leader, Kevin McCarthy, suggested that Donald Trump was on Vladimir Putin’s payroll. In an exchange first reported by the Washington Post, McCarthy said: “There’s …there’s two people, I think, Putin pays: [California Representative Dana] Rohrabacher and Trump … [laughter] … swear to God.” According to the transcript, speaker Paul Ryan immediately responded: “This is an off-the-record … [laughter] … NO LEAKS … [laughter] … alright?!

  3. Looks like Musk acquired Twitter to destroy it and save America from the Left: https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/was-elon-musks-strategy-twitter-rcna118490 On the day that public records revealed that Elon Musk had become Twitter’s biggest shareholder, an unknown sender texted the billionaire and recommended an article imploring him to acquire the social network outright. Musk’s purchase of Twitter, the 3,000-word anonymous article said, would amount to a “declaration of war against the Globalist American Empire.” The sender of the texts was offering Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, a playbook for the takeover and transformation of Twitter. As the anniversary of Musk's purchase approaches, the identity of the sender remains unknown. The three texts were sent on April 4, 2022. In the nearly 18 months since then, many of the decisions Musk made after he bought Twitter appear to have closely followed that road map, up to and including his ongoing attacks against the Anti-Defamation League, a nonprofit organization founded by Jewish Americans to counter discrimination. The text messages described a series of actions Musk should take after he gained full control of the social media platform: “Step 1: Blame the platform for its users; Step 2: Coordinated pressure campaign; Step 3: Exodus of the Bluechecks; Step 4: Deplatforming.” The messages from the unknown sender were revealed in a court filing last year as evidence in a lawsuit Twitter brought against Musk after he tried to back out of buying it. The redacted documents were unearthed by The Chancery Daily, an independent legal publication covering proceedings before the Delaware Court of Chancery. The wording of the texts matches the subtitles of the article, “The Battle of the Century: Here’s What Happens if Elon Musk Buys Twitter,” which had been published three days earlier on the right-wing website revolver.news. The article was published with no byline, a common practice on the site, where writers also appear to use pseudonyms, such as “Moxie Russo.” The site is run by the far-right blogger Darren Beattie, a former Trump White House speechwriter who was fired in 2018 for having spoken on a panel alongside white nationalists. After the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, Beattie promoted the baseless claim that the FBI had planted agents in the crowd who incited it to storm the building.
  4. Fun fact: the United States has spent less than 3% of its annual military budget to aid Ukraine in its war against Russia., resulting in the Ukrainian Defense Forces " destroying half of the Russian army.” https://news.yahoo.com/ukraine-used-3-us-defense-203500822.html#:~:text=At the press conference%2C Graham, half of the Russian army."

  6. She is said to have spent 20k of public money to fly a friend to France, then faked receipts & said the $20k was spent on a podium. When public demanded to see it, she bought a $700 one on Amazon.

  11. Went downstairs earlier this evening and encountered two family members who have not been able to ween themselves from watching Maher. While mixing my Uncle Nearest based cocktail, I heard the Maher audience applaud Desantis’ for the way he [mis]managed vaccines in Florida. Don’t tell me disinformation doesn’t work.
  12. We had a very real chance to overhaul our broken immigration system in 2013 when the Senate passed sweeping legislation that not only enjoyed bipartisan support in the upper chamber, but among rank and file liberal and conservative constituencies. It failed because House Republicans knew it would pass if held to a vote: https://www.brookings.edu/articles/the-real-reason-why-the-house-wont-pass-comprehensive-immigration-reform/ It’s been a year since the Senate passed a comprehensive immigration bill. George and Jeb Bush and Sens. John McCain and Lindsay Graham support it. Conservative public intellectuals such as David Brooks, Grover Norquist, and Karl Rove also support it, as well as more than 100 conservative economists, the Wall Street Journal and the CATO Institute. Comprehensive immigration reform enjoys a level of popularity that should make it a win-win for all involved. Still, House Republicans refuse to support it — even though the Senate recently passed a bipartisan bill with which many conservatives are satisfied. With every reason to pass comprehensive immigration reform, why are House Republicans standing in its way? Many claim that the Senate bill amounts to amnesty, a measure they suggest leaves us no better off than we are now. They stress securing the border and expelling the 11 to 12 million “illegal aliens” residing in the United States. House Republicans argue that the Senate bill amounts to nothing more than a breach of the rule of law – a foundational conservative tenet. But something beyond ideology drives House Republicans’ resistance to comprehensive immigration reform. Let’s review the case against comprehensive immigration reform from the House GOP’s perspective.
  13. There is a pretty silly poster who claims to be a Texas fan who has repped this site for its sports insights but dragged it for troglodyte political takes

  15. Watching Tuberville get away with this reminds me of the excuses offered in the face of inaction on unchecked gun violence. We’re told there’s nothing more that can be done. Likewise, we hear that the Senate custom that grants Tuberville the “courtesy” to wreak havoc within the military, is sacrosanct. Really? Why not suspend or do away with a harmful anachronism that does more harm than good?
  16. WSJ calls on Americans to remember: https://www.mediaite.com/print/lunacy-wall-street-journal-editorial-board-slams-republicans-for-ignoring-trumps-unhinged-posts/ The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board slammed former President Donald Trump — and the Republicans who enable him — over the “unhinged” remarks that populate his feed on social media platform Truth Social. In their latest op-ed, the board noted that in the last few days, Trump has pledged to have NBC and MSNBC investigated for “country-threatening treason” and suggested that General Mark Milley should be executed. The op-ed also noted that Trump “uses Truth Social to amplify unhinged posts from others, including one recently calling the 2021 Capitol riot a ‘Fedsurrection,’ involving Antifa leftists in MAGA disguise, and ‘the Deep State coordinated their actions through proxies.'” The editorial board called “this lunacy” a “direct mind-meld with Mr. Trump’s true social and political self.” As such, the editorial board argued, why are Republicans not taking Trump’s “campaign pledge to abridge the First Amendment” and call for the execution of U.S. generals seriously? He is, after all, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination. “What if some crank does and decides to shoot Gen. Milley in his retirement?” the board asked, before concluding that voters will pay attention to Trump’s posts if he’s nominated for president again, and Republicans will have to deal with the political ramifications of that. From the op-ed:
  17. No, because Chief Justice Roberts says race based discrimination no longer exists in America, despite what you see around you.
  18. Granny Lauren attempted to add a similar amendment that would reduce the pay of a transgendered service person to $1. She kept referring to Sean Kelly as “deputary” while insisting on misgendering her.
  19. Has this ever happened before? https://www.yahoo.com/news/secdef-austin-salary-cut-1-180848504.html House Republicans on Wednesday approved a measure to slash Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s salary from more than $221,000 annually to less than $1, based on their dissatisfaction with his work so far. The move has little chance of becoming law, but underscores the growing animosity between conservatives and military leaders reporting to President Joe Biden. House Democrats dismissed the move as little more than a political stunt. As part of debate on the fiscal 2024 defense appropriations bill, GOP lawmakers approved multiple similar proposals to cut salaries for Defense Department positions they dislike
  20. Either that or they don’t want to invite scrutiny into the skullduggery of a similarly situated Clarence Thomas
  21. Is anybody surprised at how calm Republicans appear to be about this scandal?
