  1. You got leads. Mitch and Murray paid good money. Get their names to sell them. You can't close the leads you're given, you can't close shit, you are shit, hit the bricks pal and beat it 'cause you are going out.

I can go out there tonight, the materials you got, make myself 15,000 dollars. Tonight. In two hours. Can you? Can you?

Can we talk Gold vs Silver?      I am a goldbug not a silverbug.   The premiums on silver and the amount of physical space it takes up always kept me from it.      I am not a doomsday scenario type person where i think i am going to be trading silver for bread and gold for land.   Hell i dont even have those little gram bars that are tear off that are sold for that thought (bartering).

Physical Space:  @CHIEF's monster box he bought of AgMaples is about $17k  (im not being critical at all - i think precious metals are smart to do - obviously)  - that same monster box of AuMaples is $1.2 million for the same amount of space.

Gold can be had for about 3-4% premium at the 1oz coin level.    Silver is usually like 12-15%

Hell, right now SD has AuMaples for just less than 2% premium  - $39.99 over spot.        Silver Maples are at about 13.8% premium.     ASE are above 25%

So, in my little brain, silver has to do 10+% better than gold to be the better buy.

Perhaps i am missing something?    what do yall think?

In general, with either metal, buying the big thing is more efficient than buying the smaller thing. eg Look at 10 oz silver bars instead of 1 oz bits, and 1 oz gold vs. fractional.

Another thing is the mark-up on government-issued bullion vs generic. If you step away from Eagles or similar to generic, you can cut the premium to the bone, as you no doubt know. People have their reasons for whichever they want.

With the premiums, the question is "Can I get it back when I sell?" Mostly depends on where and how you sell, and how fast. So the answer is somewhere between "yes" and "no."

    Weight-wise there's no question.

  3. I have the opposite experience. When we got married I came into the union with two Mercury Dimes and one Morgan that looks like it was hit with a belt sander. Mrs. Canecutter, on the other hand, had amassed several silver settings when silver was low, because she didn't feel like waiting and squabbling with her siblings one day.

However, when a hippy coworker almost slapped me around to buy gold back when it was at 800 in 2008 (?) she replied "We don't take financial advice from hippies," and invested the cost of an ounce of gold in Vulcan Materials stock, now 10x higher.

Then when I did start stacking, she enjoys it, and would be upset if I sold much of it. The only gold coins I ever sold were a half-Sovereign and a 1/20 oz Panda, and I used the cash for two Olympic-grade epee blades. I figure gold for swords is legit Dungeons and Dragons.

I begged Mrs. CHIEF to agree to buy five hundred 1 oz. silver Maple Leafs back in March, when silver was around $21ish an ounce. I just bought them today priced about $3k more total. I don't ever know why I ask for permission or agreement before I do shit like this. It's just easier to never tell her until she freaks out after looking at the savings account. She will be furious for about ten minutes, and then, she will be on her computer monitoring silver prices constantly.

    CHIEF

Whenever I wake up from a craze of buying, I feel a momentary twinge as if I blew that money at the racetrack. Then I realize that even if I take a small loss, I could turn right around and get most of that cash back. Sort of like moving it from a savings account to a Shiny savings account.

It's not so much about being "right" about the market as it is NOT spending every last dime on stuff like beer. If I had 1/4 of my beer money back from the past 3 decades, that'd be a ton of metal (and stocks) even if I bought at dumb prices. And the remaining 3/4 of that beer would be plenty for the foolishness I got up to.

I mean, just listening to him talk gives me the sads.

I feel as if Coach T Tubs is the stink of a high school football locker room that somehow came to life one day and has been traveling amongst us  ever since.

It would be inspirational if it wasn’t also so infuriating what a smell has done with the gift of sentience.

Yeah, @Dnaguy you had me nodding until the very last word.

My hope is that Tommy leaves his phone on a restaurant table and some young rascal empties all the Putin Bucks out of his Venmo.

Pretty cool. I could cover the subtitles and follow the simple stuff, but when it takes off in a random direction it's like being on the end in a game of crack-the-whip.

Odd that he'd say it's as different from English as Japanese, couldn't have meant that literally because there are tons of common vocab, sometimes borrowed, sometimes deep from thousands of years ago, or from midway sources like French or Norse that also influenced English.

Yep.  You could have $20,000 in gold coins (paging @RDCanecutter) but somebody with $10 worth of lead can relieve you of that burden.

The smart money is spending $20,000 on tattoos because to get them they have to skin your entire body.

Back to prepping, any list that doesn't start with "Lots of Friends" and "Hand-pumped Water Well" is a list of junk that people will scavenge off of your body. Preppers don't seem to think about making friends for some reason.

That's assuming Mad Max levels of Mayhem. But SHTF could have lots of notches that it hits before swirling into complete cannibalism.

[Bubba Gump Voice]You got your mild depression SHTF. You got your Mexico in the 1980s bottom-falls-out-of-the-currency-but-you-still-can-catch-a-taxi SHTF. Then they's Hurricane Katrina SHTF cept spread over a whole state or two. Some folks like gang-infested Honduras SHTF, but you can still go on Mercado Libre in Honduras and buy a sun dress, if that floats your boat. They's Venezuela SHTF, then they's Somalia SHTF and Eastern Ukraine SHTF, where I think the shit gets all over you no matter which way the fan is pointed. Anyway, long story short, all y'all old fat fucks gon die.[/BGV]

Well, he was attempting to trade for 2 months rent in 2022 dollars, so about $3500 I guess.  I have no idea if this would have been a good deal or not.   It wasn't to me, I don't want you to pay me once, I want you to pay me in perpetuity.

It sounds like y'all have a delicate ecosystem where any interference would result in collapse and extinction.

I should pass anyway. I am looking for a simple waterproof box that rolls so I can transport art. Something dripping sexxay like a Honda Element.

This hits a bit too close to home for me.  I have a long time tenant that is a hardcore Trumper.  At one point he wasn't paying rent and so I went an visited and he offered to give me his 96 Grand Cherokee in lieu of rent.  I asked him how he was going to get to work if he didn't have the truck, his response floored me, "well it doesn't run, which is why I haven't been going to work, and also why I can't pay the rent.  Do you think you could give me a ride for a while after I give you the truck?"  Instead I offered to look at the truck and quickly determined the starter was bad, I went to the store, got it and put it in for him.  Eventually, I got my money back.

Absolutely baffling.  This is what we are dealing with.  Also, if you are in the landlord game, this also is the type of lunacy you can expect.

    1. Closest I got to the landlord game was teaching College Orientation for new students (who probably have a story about where the rent money went.) My first lesson to them was "Show Up," and everything else was padding so I could draw a check.

    2. I also dipped my toe into that world a while back offering to buy gold and silver. You'd be amazed at how much gold and silver there is in the world. This steel chain is silver. Those Canadian dollar coins from last year are gold. Why do you want to cheat us.

    3. How much does he want for the Grand Cherokee?

A simple "yes" when she asks if he's a citizen and they would have been on their way.

And make sure you say "yes" in English.  When I was 16 some friends and I ventured into to Matamoros during spring break...on the way back in the officer asked if I was a citizen, and young, dumb Dixon decided to be funny and say "si".  Let's just say the cop got the last laugh...I've spoken crystal clear English when faced with the same situation since.

I had the opposite happen in Laredo. I was coming back over on a scooter, both lanes towards the USA packed, and a Mexican taxi driver wondered why I was waiting in line, on a scooter I should just cut around everybody.

So I did. Crossed the whole damn bridge driving around the parked cars.

I got to the agent, and she said (in Spanish) "I'm gonna talk to you in Spanish because I get the impression you understand it."
