  1. Five years ago my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died last January at the age of 58. Two weeks ago my 18 year old niece was having headaches and a tumor was found on her MRI. Earlier this week she had a tumor removed at MD Anderson and it was diagnosed as glioblastoma. So while she's getting ready for her senior prom and graduation she'll be going through radiation treatments and chemo. Yesterday my mother in law was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. So yeah, fuck cancer.
  2. I was thinking more of actual FBI rather than fictional. You know, Hoover, COINTELPRO, letters sent to MLK attempting to blackmail him into suicide, the murder of Fred Hampton, Responsibilities Program, things like that. Yes, thinking that is cool is being a bootlicker.
  3. At best it makes you right of center, at worst it makes you a bootlicker. I just can't fathom how anyone with even a basic understanding of the history of the FBI could "think the FBI is cool".
  4. Is this a joke? Holy shit! The political left understander has logged on!
  5. Fuck yes! This exactly! I guess that's where I disagree. Liberals ARE Centrists. I just don't see any difference.
  6. This thread is a fascinating look at proof that liberals hate the Left more than the Right.
  7. Finally motherfucker! I just made my first $27 donation!
  8. Since it's clear, it's more likely sunscreen and rosin. Still illegal, but pretty widely used in MLB. Pine tar would be a much darker color than that.
  9. No Twin Peaks is a disgrace. It should have been nominated for best limited series and Kyle MacLachlan should have been nominated for best actor in a limited series. Episode 8 was the greatest hour in the history of television.
  10. I won't link because Breitbart, but he also got Sheriff Joe. They have a whole article with him whining about it. I got rid of Showtime after Twin Peaks ended, but I'm back in for this.
  11. But do you disagree that the GOP was pushed further right? From my perspective, that is exactly what happened and they gained seats. The hope of those of us on the left is that victories like this will push the Democratic Party further to the left AND enable them to gain seats. Stop focusing on moderation and trying to appeal to "sane Republicans" with centrist policies and civility and focus on leftists who haven't had a voice in the Democratic Party in a very long time. I hope this is just the beginning but that remains to be seen. I agree with you 100% regarding the media and pundits. 24 hours ago, the vast majority of them had never heard of Ocasio-Cortez.
  12. This is most likely the correct answer, but people will continue to be stupid so you focus on what you can control.
  13. Come on. Do you really believe she was a good candidate? I mean she was all but coronated in 2008 AND 2016 and found a way to fuck it up both times. She was a terrible candidate and if Democrats as a whole don't focus on and come to terms with that, we're going to lose again.
  14. I can't speak for "a large percentage of people on the Left", but if that's what they think, we'll lose again. They lost because they put up a terrible candidate with no political instincts who ran an awful campaign and had no message other than "I'm not Trump". All of this Russia, Trump duped stupid people, etc. is bullshit and will just lead to similar results next time around. Maybe some of those things played a small role in the results, but it stinks of not learning your lesson and repeating the same mistakes.
  15. Meh, we've had 6, 7, 9, and 10 in the past. Franklin Roosevelt tried to pass legislation to add a justice, up to 15, for every member over 70 who chose not to retire. We really need to get past thinking that there are any norms. This is one area the republicans have it figured out. Democrats can cry for civility and norms all they want, but that time is over.
  16. This is a fair point, but there needs to be something for people to rally behind. You message it as abolish ICE and work on reforming the policies and procedures once that's done. He also voted against it's formation in 2003, so I'm not sure why he's reluctant to make that call now.
  17. How about going back to the way it worked before ICE was formed in 2003? Let's start there and then work on improvements.
  18. And just to add to that, I've been very disappointed in the fact that Bernie stops short of calling to abolish ICE. I suspect it has to do with his plans for 2020, but it's disappointing to me nonetheless and I hope he rethinks it.
  19. I actually agree. I guess my view is that if there is no one advocating for leftist positions, that incremental change won't happen. I'm pleased to see more calls to abolish ICE, medicare for all, $15 minimum wage, etc. Will all or any of these happen? Probably not in the near term, but they are making their way into mainstream discussion and that is a good thing.
  20. I'm always curious why no one talks about the fact that there is nothing requiring only nine Supreme Court justices. You would think that the easiest way to fix this (from the left's perspective) would be for the democrats to hold the presidency, house, and senate, and pass legislation to increase the number to 11.
  21. I fail to see why that should make a difference when I'm stating a preference for candidates that I personally like. I've already said that my goal isn't to elect moderate democrats, it's to move the party left. Not really. I continue to be a registered democrat and donate to, campaign for, and vote for candidates that I prefer. I'll continue to do that. What I won't do is hold my nose and vote for someone that is slightly right of center at best. I'll either vote for a third party candidate or I'll vote for local races/issues, and leave the presidential section blank. I'm not saying everyone has to do it the way I do and I completely understand why others feel differently. I'm just saying that I'm at a point in my life where I'm not going to choose the lesser of two evils and judging off of 2016 results, I don't think I'm the only one.
  22. I think you'll definitely see that in 2024, and some are starting to rise, I'm just not sure if they'll be ready for 2020. I like Stacey Abrams in Georgia, Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York. For me personally, I just can't stomach the idea of another moderate. I honestly think that running a moderate western governor is just counting on backlash against Trump to win the election. Maybe it will work, but it's a clear sign that there's no affirmative argument to elect the democratic candidate.
  23. To be fair, I live in a state so red that it really doesn't matter who I vote for. I have the luxury of being a purist. I might feel differently if I lived somewhere else. On the other hand, the only reason I am registered as a Democrat is to move the party left during primaries, so who knows. At the end of the day, I'm just tired of being told that I have to vote for the lesser of two evils and if I choose not to then I'm the problem. That's bullshit.
