  1. Hunter's gearing up to sue Fox News: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/rcna149707

    Quote

Lawyers for Hunter Biden plan to sue Fox News “imminently,” according to a letter sent to the network and obtained by NBC News.

The letter, dated April 23, puts the Fox News Channel and Fox News Digital on notice for litigation claims arising from the network’s alleged “conspiracy and subsequent actions to defame Mr. Biden and paint him in a false light, the unlicensed commercial exploitation of his image, name, and likeness, and the unlawful publication of hacked intimate images of him.”

Biden has hired attorney Mark Geragos and his firm to represent him in the Fox litigation efforts. The letter is the second outreach to Fox this month. An earlier letter was hand-delivered to Fox’s counsel two weeks ago, and the network asked for more time to respond, according to a source familiar with Biden’s legal efforts. The network has not yet responded to the letter sent April 23, which included a Friday evening, April 26, deadline to respond, according to Geragos. The letter is signed by Tina Glandian, a partner at Geragos & Geragos working on the case.

Fox News did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The new threat of litigation comes almost a year after Fox News agreed to pay almost $800 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle defamation claims related to Fox’s airing of election fraud claims in the 2020 election. Fox News also agreed to a $12 million settlement with a former employee who alleged she was pressured to provide misleading information as part of the Dominion case.

Fox is currently facing a $2.7 billion lawsuit brought by Smartmatic, another voting system company that was the focus of Fox News coverage, as well as suits brought by shareholders against directors of the company for allowing the channel to air the allegations during its 2020 election coverage. Fox said in its latest financial disclosures that it will contest the lawsuits, but acknowledges that there could be a “material” adverse impact on the company’s business and financial position.

The plan for Hunter Biden to pursue legal action against Fox News has been in the works for over a year, according to sources familiar with Biden's legal efforts, and was inspired in part by the success of the Dominion lawsuit and the ongoing Smartmatic lawsuit. The effort took on new importance with the revelations that the bribery allegations cited on air originated from the FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, who was indicted by special counsel David Weiss in February.

In a statement, Geragos said: “For the last five years, Fox News has relentlessly attacked Hunter Biden and made him a caricature in order to boost ratings and for its financial gain. The recent indictment of FBI informant Smirnov has exposed the conspiracy of disinformation that has been fueled by Fox, enabled by their paid agents and monetized by the Fox enterprise. We plan on holding them accountable.”

Hunter Biden has been a focus of Fox News coverage for the last several years. A review of network transcripts by the group Media Matters cites at least 13,440 mentions of Hunter Biden since January 2023. Biden’s legal team believes the number of mentions over many years makes the potential case as significant if not more so than the Dominion case, according to sources familiar with the legal strategy.

The Biden letter specifically cites Fox’s advancement of bribery allegations by Smirnov, who was indicted in February on charges of making false statements about the Bidens to the FBI. “Smirnov and the post indictment revelations basically closed the loop on the conspiracy,” Geragos told NBC News.

The letter alleges that Fox News knew that the bribery allegations were unverified at the time but continued to report that the source was “highly credible,” and demands corrections and retractions — including on-air statements by television hosts “including Sean Hannity, Jesse Watters, and Maria Bartiromo, to inform their viewers on air that they have been sharing a debunked allegation from a source who has been federally indicted.”

The letter also alleges that Fox’s airing of “intimate images” belonging to Hunter Biden that his lawyers claim were “hacked, stolen, and/or manipulated” violates Biden’s civil rights as well as copyright law. Much of the letter is focused on a six-part “mock trial” titled “The Trial of Hunter Biden” that aired in October 2021, described by Fox as what a trial might look like if Biden was charged with Foreign Agents Registration Act or bribery charges — neither of which Biden has been charged with. “While using certain true information, the series intentionally manipulates the facts, distorts the truth, narrates happenings out of context, and invents dialogue intended to entertain. Thus, the viewer of the series cannot decipher what is fact and what is fiction,” the letter says. The letter demands that the series be removed from all streaming services.

This new litigation push comes as Biden prepares for a summer of criminal trials. His trial on gun charges in Delaware starts June 3, and his tax case is expected to go to trial in August. He’s pleaded not guilty in both cases.

It's my favorite time of year again.  Got my 6 month car insurance renewal from Progressive and it's gone up to $3,479 from $2,595 for six months.  This is with 4 cars and me, the wife, and 19 year old son on the policy.  2017 Hyundai Ioniq (liability only), 2018 Volvo XC90 (full coverage), 2022 Nissan Rogue (full coverage) and 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance (full coverage).  This includes all the fabulous discounts I get including bundling my home insurance.  So, $7,000 per year for fucking car insurance.  Just got a quote from Geico and it was $4,300 or so for 6 months.  Any other companies I should look at before I lube up my butthole?

Happy to take a look. Our hands are really tied at the moment with regard to markets. Have we gone through this song-and-dance already? I've kicked the tires with so many Surlyites, it's hard to remember if we've already tried before. If not, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email address so you can send me renewal auto dec pages for Progressive. Do you have claims? Also, let me know how big the house is as that might open a few other doors for us.

On a happier note, based on a few back-and-forth EM's with @Dish Boggett above, I was able to help him positively resolve his umbrella situation.

I’ve seen similar hundreds of times.  Didn’t want to mention it because I get that people don’t believe the ‘we got him’ narrative, but I said WAY back all the trials would melt what’s left of his brain.
I have seen the worst of narcissists fall apart when they’re stressed like this - many of them I had to sign into dementia units due to how quickly it all falls apart.
There’s a 100% chance this is really going to affect him - but he could tough out another year, and we all see his delay tactics, and the election is the biggest one of those.  So let’s see…got my popcorn ready.

MAGA DGAF about Trump's dementia, only Joe's.

CNN — “Numerous law enforcement officers” have been shot in an “active situation” in Charlotte, North Carolina, police say.

“The scene is still active. Avoid the area. Many roads are closed for faster ambulance transport. Please cooperate with authorities,” the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said on X.

The incident is at the 5000 block of Galway Drive, police said, and a SWAT team is on scene.

“The US Marshals Task Force, which is comprised of officers from multiple agencies, was conducting an investigation in the area of the 5000 block of Galway Dr when they were engaged by active gunfire from a subject,” police said. “Multiple law enforcement officers have been struck by the gunfire and are being transported to the hospital.”

Police say an "active investigation" is underway

“Mayor Vi Lyles is monitoring the situation,” City of Charlotte spokesperson Lawrence Corley told CNN.

Police said “gunfire continues on the scene” in an earlier post on X.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

DeSantis meets with Trump to help with 2024 election

MIAMI — Gov. Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump seem ready to put their feud from the Republican presidential primary aside — for real this time.

The two Florida Republicans met in Miami Sunday morning to talk about how they could work together during the general election, according to half a dozen people familiar with the meeting who were granted anonymity to speak freely.

The meeting was first reported by the Washington Post.

The get-together was arranged by Florida real-estate broker Steve Witkoff, several people confirmed to POLITICO. A Trump campaign official said it was a “good meeting set at the request of Gov. DeSantis.”

Three DeSantis donors texted POLITICO to say that they thought the move for the two men to make peace was “smart.”

DeSantis told his most loyal donors during a retreat in Hollywood this month that he would be fundraising for Trump’s campaign, POLITICO was first to report. The Republican governor proved himself to be a prodigious fundraiserduring his 2022 reelection campaign, raising a record sum in excess of $200 million. He then parlayed much of that money toward a political action committee for a failed presidential run.

“It’s a great development and makes perfect sense for Trump, Desantis and all Republicans,” said Roy Bailey, who was one of three finance chairs for DeSantis’ presidential campaign. “Gov. DeSantis had a really strong volunteer finance team and if we could plug that in and help Trump then that’s what we need to do — and want to do. It’s important to all get together and row in the same direction.”

The pivotal turn of events could help to restore the two men’s relationship after a particularly brutal primary, where Trump often personally attacked the governor and repeatedly tried to show him up in Florida, the state they both call home. Making amends also could help to elevate DeSantis’ profile, including the role he’ll play in the 2024 general election and the GOP convention in Milwaukee.

Trump has shown himself to get beyond some of the most bitter fights with his enemies, but it’s not clear those on Trump’s political operation will be as forgiving in the longterm since several officials, including Susie Wiles, worked for DeSantis in the past.

Trump and DeSantis worked together when the former president was in the White House, and Trump took credit during the primary for helping DeSantis become governor in 2018. He often said he felt stung by what he viewed as DeSantis’ lack of gratitude for his support.

DeSantis kept his pledge to endorse Trump for president after dropping out in January, but shortly after he proceeded to trash his former rival’s electability and criticize him for using “identity politics” in picking a running mate.

Trump was brutal in return, including by endorsing candidates in Florida — one whose election isn’t until 2026, DeSantis’ last year in office before he’ll be term-limited out. Trump even urged Republicans to level a primary against Rep. Laurel Lee, the only Republican member of the Florida delegation to have endorsed DeSantis over Trump.

DeSantis previously said he didn’t expect to campaign with Trump in Florida because the Republican-leaning state isn’t competitive — and the Trump campaign fired back that he wasn’t wanted. DeSantis often criticized Trump over his policy record as president, including on the Covid pandemic and immigration, and blasted Trump for criticizing a six-week abortion restriction he signed into law. But the governor demurred two weeks ago when POLITICO asked whether he thought Trump should say how he was voting on an abortion referendum set to go before Florida voters in November.

DeSantis has not ruled out a 2028 run for president and appears to be making amends with Republicans and others he’s fought with. Walt Disney World, for instance, settled its lawsuit against the governor after he appointed a competent official friendly to the California-based company to oversee its special taxing district, putting a two-year feud to a close.

DeSantis also has been meeting privately with donors to voice appreciation for their support, a move that is widely viewed as an effort to rebrand and retool his persona following a perception that he has failed to give gratitude to supporters for his success.

MAGA/GQP love to throw around the "beta cuck" tag rather indiscriminately and (almost always) incorrectly. DeSantis is the textbook definition of it in this case. I wonder if he offered up Casey to him to sweeten the deal.

I wouldn’t recommend this show without a strong warning. It’s not what I’d call entertainment. It’s the definition of train wreck. It’s a painful watch thru depravity, insanity, and poor life choices by both leads. We don’t know how much is truth or fiction but the lead dude wrote it.

The actress playing Martha is brilliant. She is sweet then disgustingly nasty and filthy then terrifying and homicidal.

We finished it last night. If it hadn’t been just 7 30 minute eps we would have bailed.

If you haven’t watched The Outlaws on Prime you should check it out. Her character is hilarious.
