Thing is I think the majority of attrition under Strong came from the transition class in '14 (recruited mostly by Mack) and players recruited mostly by Mack in earlier classes.

Even under Strong I'm not sure we had unhealthy attrition in his recruiting classes. Our attrition is mostly rooted in the fact we keep losing players recruited by other coaching staffs.

Somebody should figure out how many Mack players transferred under Strong and how many of Strong's players actually transferred. I bet it's a much higher rate for the Mack players that transferred.

I bet the same is true with Herman. I bet we don't have an attrition problem at all with Herman  as long as we get over this initial hurdle of players transferring from Strong's recruiting classes.

Sitting out bowl games is about the only thing that will ruin college football for me.  Can you imagine making it to the playoff and three or four of your best guys sit out? I like Scipio's take.  Act like a professional (especially if you're able to make the 53).

Well, we have yet to see anybody who is healthy sit out any of the CFP games, right? I think *that* would be a huge red flag about a player's selfishness when it comes to NFL teams deciding who to draft and when.

I am pleased with this result.

cant believe how big of a B Kawhi ended up being.

oh well. To our new spurs:

    Welcome to the party, pal.

I'd like to see all the sordid tales come out now that the fucker is gone. I don't mean scorched earth -- that's not PATFO's style -- but the true stories from the insiders who follow the team. I find it interesting that Michael C. Wright's ESPN.com article ledes with: "SAN ANTONIO -- Privately, San Antonio Spurs officials readily admit they're not blameless in this fiasco."

This is the best the Spurs were going to do. Anyone expecting the King's ransom in exchange for a player who has 1 year left on his deal and sat out in a controversial manner was deluded and it's that simple. The Spurs acquired a potential 1st rounder, a big with promise who was a former Pac 12 player of the year at Utah filling a position of need along with a 20+ PPG player who can so desperately provide a punch as a compliment to LMA that was sorely lacking last season. This trade was about remaining competitive now and with DeRozan the Spurs should still be in the mix for a 3-4 seed and certainly would've been better than a 7 seed last season if they had his services instead of a bitch ass who played 9 games and essentially abandoned his team.

I think the bottom line is would you have rather had:

    • Brandon Ingram and a collection of draft picks AND send Kawhi Leonard to the Lakers this season?
    • Tobias Harris and whatever else the Clippers could cobble together AND appease Kawhi Leonard by sending him to LA (and stay in the West)?
    • DeMarr DeRozan and big man project and likely 1st round pick AND send Kawhi Leonard to NBA Siberia this season?

No, only having 12 games of tape on a kid who sat behind a walk-on for two years because of maturity issues is the reason he dropped to the 6th round.  It definitely wasn't his measurables

Exactly. But I have more suspicion he dropped to the 6th round for more tangible reasons -- that Herman may or may not have shared with scouts -- than the fact that Elliott didn't play in the bowl game. Scouts can see that's why he didn't play. Why would that need to be part of anything Herman shared? If he did, Mensa isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is.

Not every letter to the editor was published, particularly not the racist or otherwise galactically stupid letters.

Yup. The decision to publish or not publish was left with somebody else. When it comes to Twitter/Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram/Etc everybody is the writer, headline writer, copy editor, editor and publisher all in one.

  7. I said a lot of stupid shit around buddies when I was in HS, at least up to when I was 17. Thankfully, only a handful of people were around at the time. Thankfully, also, none of us had a way of broadcasting said stupidity to millions of people with the push of a few buttons.

  8. Unfortunately, guys sitting out bowl games is only going to get more prevalent. Scouts know that. They can see that and I'm pretty sure they probably don't ding guys for taking that approach. Let me put it this way -- sitting out for the Mizzou bowl game isn't what dropped Elliott to the 6th round.

On Toronto's end, this has been bouncing around the interwebs:

4 best players in Raptor's history:

Vince Carter - absolutely quit on his team mid-season to get the fuck out of Toronto

T-Mac - left at the first opportunity

Chris Bosh - chose to be the third wheel in Miami over being a legend in Toronto

DD - committed to Toronto long-term, completely bought into the city and the culture; traded for a rental

Remember that in 4 years when Toronto is a dumpster fire, and people are starting to wonder how a team would look in Vegas.

And we all need to remember this the next time someone complains about a lack of player loyalty or players trying to play where they want to play.

I disagree. This is a very calculated risk on Toronto's part. The Raptors were the #1 seed last year and bonked out before reaching the ECF. Fired the COTY. LeBron has gone west and Boston is building a juggernaut. Philadelphia looks better long-term than Toronto. Kyle Lowry is 33-ish. Toronto is rolling the dice on a 1-year rental (perhaps) to try and reach the Finals next season. If Kawhi is healthy and doesn't act like a jackass -- yes, neither is a given -- then the Raptors have a better shot to do that than they did yesterday.

Don't know this Brent Z guy. Is he a columnist? Or is he the equivalent of the DMN Ben Baby azzhat ?

Long-time aggy beat writer for the Express-News and then the Houston Chronicle. Or the other way around.

I’ve never seen a realistic article on aggy football from either of them. Brent Z maybe worse that Billy which is amazing. I remember when aggy wr coach got into it on Twitter with a recruit, and Brent went on Pawl F for an interview. He basically defended the coach up and down and said he knows the guy personally and he’s a great guy...yada yada. Professional people in the media report the news and let the truth fall wherever it does. Brent is not a progressional.

Brent Z is worse. At least Billy's operation doesn't offer put itself out there as a neutral organization. TexAgs is staffed by unabashed fans of the program. Brent works for the Houston Fucking Chronicle and isn't supposed to be a cheerleader for the program.

My question is: Where are the sportswriters out there trying to curb aggy expectations? I haven't seen anything yet. Has anyone else?   If this was UT. there would be all sorts of articles written telling Longhorn fans to curb their enthusiasm.

aggy "writers" such as Liucci or Brent Z or others invariably spit out their drivel to the mouth-breathing, troglodytes that lap up all the aggy fairy tales. That's about it. True college football sportswriters know the sport is better when Texas is competing for titles.
