  1. Oops. There was more to the Bowen comments that I didn’t copy correctly:

"I think he's getting bad advice," Bowen said. "I think what you're starting to see now is an individual given a certain amount of advice, and it's not the right advice. Here it is: You were protected in San Antonio. You were able to come up during a time where you still could lean on Tim [Duncan] Tony [Parker] and Manu [Ginobili]."

Bowen was a fixture in the starting lineup and on All-Defensive teams as San Antonio won championships in 2003, 2005 and 2007. The former ESPN analyst is now a game analyst on LA Clippers broadcasts.

Bowen said Leonard has not been forthcoming about his issues with the team.

"Not one time has Kawhi come out and said anything to the effect of, 'You know what, hey, I really enjoy being in San Antonio.' Or, 'I can't stand what's going on here in San Antonio,' " Bowen said. "Not one time has he said anything."

Bowen also said he thought Leonard's decision to rehab in New York instead of with the team was a problem.

"As a player, if I'm a leader of a team, my team goes on the road in the playoffs, I'm with my guys," he said. "Because that's what it's all about. It's about camaraderie. It's about fellowship. It's a brotherhood. When that didn't happen, it's all kinds of sirens and alarm signals that says to me, 'Is this person fully vested?' ... I don't want to take on a player who's not willing to support his guys during the course of their time needing him."

Spurs general manager R.C. Buford said Thursday night that the franchise's desire is to keep disgruntled Leonard in the fold but that the club "will explore all of our options."
  2. Bruce Bowen with some truth:

Bruce Bowen, who won three titles with the San Antonio Spurs, took Kawhi Leonard to task for his dealings with the team this year, saying "there's nothing but excuses going on."

Speaking on Sirius XM NBA Radio Thursday night, Bowen said. "First, it was, 'Well I was misdiagnosed.' Look here: You got $18 million this year, and you think that they're trying to rush you? You didn't play for the most part a full season this year. And you're the go-to guy, you're the franchise, and you want to say that they didn't have your best interest at heart? Are you kidding me?"

Leonard played just nine games this season because of a quad injury. News of his his desire for a trade surfaced last week after he told confidants he no longer wanted to play in San Antonio.
  3. drafts i like best:
    1. dallas - they got the best player in the draft.  had to give up next year's pick to do it (really don't see them being in the top 5 next year), but so what?  they now have two legit young building blocks.  jalen brunson in the 2nd round is a good get too.  he'll play in the league for a decade.
    2. phoenix - ayton is obviously the headliner, but getting mikal bridges, another top 10 talent in the draft, was a hell of a move.  they now have a young core of ayton, booker, josh jackson and bridges.  that's some very nice young talent.
    3. orlando - i think bamba was the 2nd best player in the draft and getting melvin frazier in the 2nd round was also a good pick.  now they have to get a back court.
    4. denver - if porter can ever get healthy, they got a top 5 talent at #14.  if he can't, it was still a gamble well worth taking.
    5. knicks - they were smart and took a couple of guys who will take some time, but have a ton of upside.  they're gonna be garbage next year regardless so going with upside makes a lot of sense to me.
    my least favorite drafts:
    1. atlanta - i just don't get how they could pick trae young over doncic.
    2. clippers - SGA is fine, but why on earth take jerome robinson at #13 with guys like porter and zhaire smith on the board.  for that matter, why even choose SGA over miles bridges?
    3. portland - don't think they should be taking guys who won't even sniff the league for a couple of years.  they could have gotten someone who could contribute next season.
    4. sacramento - bagley should be fine, but they passed on several guys who are better bets.

I think the Spurs did pretty well too all things considered.
  4. If I were basing my evaluation purely off highlight clips, I might take Metu over Bamba. Of course, said highlights clearly weren’t VERSUS Bamba, so there’s that minor detail to consider. Along with the fact I’m not a coach or scout and really am just talking out my butt.
Seriously, Metu looks like a monster on tape. Might not be against guys his size, but in college he brought the pain. We’ve been in desperate need of someone like that.

Don’t forget Metu is a junior, two whole classes ahead of Bamba.
  5. Saying all the things he has to......

I like the restraint. We aren’t a championship team — or anything close — without Kawhi. Might as well exhaust all possibilities and not make a hasty deal for pennies on the dollar. We might get a few less pennies on the dollar down the road, but if there’s even a slight chance we change his mind, you gotta take a shot.

At one time, it looked like Duncan was gone too. #soyouresayingtheresachance

This has been heavily reported...... Personally, I don't think we were prepared or had done our due diligence on a top 5 pick despite speculation.  12/13?  A little different considering we select in the general area.

Might've been interested in that one honestly since at least the Clips have a snowball's chance at signing him long term. I might have asked for next year's #1 too. I know next-to-nothing about Harris.

Yeah I keep hearing people talk a little about how Hutchins is so good.  I had it once and, although maybe a slight step above Rudy’s, my experience was that it tasted about how those pics look.  Pretty pretty meh.

I've had the original once and I really liked it. It was all-you-can-eat when I went and I thought it was pretty good. I don't usually mess around with chicken at a BBQ place (unless it's Pecan Lodge's fry chicken) and I don't like collard greens at all and would never order green beans at a BBQ joint, I don't think. The brisket looks rather good, though.

As a Spurs fan, do you think they're ready to move him this quickly, or do you think they'll take a more patient approach?

Id say if they are offered a top 5 pick he'll get moved tonight. if not, maybe at the deadline then..

All depends on what Kawhi said to Pop during their meeting this week. Wonder about Memphis, who is apparently doing everything they can to trade #4 since nobody seemingly wants to play for them. They think they're a 50-win team with healthy Gasol (the good one) and Conley. Leonard would make them very interesting but, again, it'd be a one-year rental most likely. I'd love Doncic but the Hawks are rumored to be infatuated with him as well, unless you buy the stories that it's a smokescreen to convince the Mavs to move up.

The last half of aughts were a fantastic decade for comedy.  The teens have been more of an action decade..... It goes in waves and also comedies tend to have more cult classic type arcs.  Animal House or Caddyshack weren't considered hilarious all time comedies in their initial runs.

Ask the question in 2002 or 2003 and you'd have the same struggle.  Some real good movies but there was a transition in comedy going on from Jim Carrey/Farrelly Brothers stuff to some new voices.  Comedians don't really age well.... they have their time and then folks get tired of their schtick.

Is this where we blame superhero movies? Seems like that's all that comes out these days in the studio's quest for the $500M movie with endless sequel possibilities.

If we moved the pick it would probably be to move a bad contract like Pau or Patty's......  Here are some of the guys we've been mocked to select if we pick:

I like Zhaire Smith and Huerter (late riser who can really shoot) at that spot..... There have been rumblings we may go big but with this current roster, I don't know how we don't draft a wing.  Only true wings we have under contract are Kawhi and..... we'll give Anderson the QO.

    Smith excites me.

  12. This is the End is fucking greatness. Of those mentioned, I thought the first Neighbors was pretty good as was 22 Jump Street. Deadpool and The Big Sick are better movies but I wouldn't classify those as straight comedies. Oh, I liked Nice Guys too.

I've said it before - but I don't really want Kawhi Leonard to stick around.  We're losing an amazing player but anyone who would ever insinuate that an organization like the Spurs would willingly put his health at risk in order to get him active for what? Wins?  Playoff hopes?   You think Pop and RC felt like the Spurs had a chance at beating GS this year (even with Leonard?)

Any player willing to completely cut off all ties with an organization because of that isn't worthy of wearing the silver and black.  This organization has set the standard for handling star players, managing injuries and prolonging careers of their players, etc and they would never purposely bring someone back who doctors felt was still injured.  That whole story about him still being in pain despite what multiple doctors and MRIs show is fishy as fuck.  If he told them he was still in pain - no team would put him at risk of re-injuring himself.

I'm just hoping we can swindle the fuck out of someone desperate enough to give up some young stars and some picks.

Have to stop you right there. This team -- minus Gay -- was up 25 in Oakland in Game 1 last year before Kawhi got hurt so, yeah, I think they definitely thought if they got a shot, there would be a chance at knocking them off.

Changing the subject slight -- anybody have an idea on who we are (or should be) looking at with the 18th pick tonight? Saw something where we might move the pick -- that sounds like something we'd do.

  14. Am I just missing something? I don’t see how that’s even possible if Leonard and his camp are
making it clear that they’re going to sign with LA after next year. How can we get a decent return from anyone, including LA, if that is actually the case. I’m sure it’s just posturing, but why would any team trade away assets for what would essentially be a one year rental.
I’ll admit i haven’t read this thread, but only because i feel like nobody actually knows what the fuck they’re talking about. Including Woj, Chris Broussard, etc. Just seems like he has all the leverage in this situation.

The Spurs leverage is basically is Kawhi prepared to take another season off?

There are definitely holes in the theory but Manu and TP always just took direction and never stood up and rattled the cage.  Pop has always been the leader.  If I was told that I would be the only max guy on the team (I believe Kawhi got the max) and that a TP/Manu/Duncan type team would be built around me then I would be pissed if they squandered the money in a panic and took LMA at the max.  If/when I got over that, I would be especially pissed about when LMA threw a fit and Pop, who has always been the pillar of the team, collapsed to basically give LMA everything he wanted.  For 6 years you are the heir apparent and then because a guy who came into "our" culture and demanded the most money possible and is now demanding the ball as much as possible is being acquiesced to.  Maybe Kawhi just sees the writing on the wall that the players on the roster are playing for themselves and not the team and he doesn't want to be the last one standing while the culture erodes.

I guess maybe it isn't that Kawhi has a problem with LMA, maybe he has a problem with how the organization has been run since LMA got to town.  Kawhi didn't say anything when LMA was getting 14 shots a game.  Now that the offense is being run through the post more maybe that is where the problems arose.  At that point you might have to choose either Kawhi or LMA.  Given that Pop gave LMA his way there is no reason for Kawhi to believe Pop is going to give Kawhi what he was promised in the reigns to the horse.

Man, I couldn't disagree more on this. Two summers ago, LMA was getting the max from somebody. He was hands-down the FA prize the year he was available. No way we pursue him if Kawhi says no. He got the max to come be Kawhi's running buddy and even with the first-year struggles, we were leading the Warriors by 25 in their gym in Game 1 when Kawhi was hurt by Zaza. LMA didn't think he fit in and Pop swooped in last summer and made it all better -- and it wasn't because he got more money. I think they just had a good old fashioned heart-to-heart. It's what strong families do. That's why up until a day or so ago, I thought it would happen again with Kawhi. But I think LMA's support group is more grounded --- and less self-serving -- than Kawhi's.
