So I finally broke down and got the Anova Wi-Fi version. Cooking a wagyu coulatte that I picked up from The Meat Shop (Dallas) the other night. Kind of winging it on the first cut. EVOO, seasoning, some fresh smashed garlic and rosemary sprigs in the FoodSaver bag.

Didn't turn out that great, though I can't blame the sous vide. It was a pretty thick cut of meat and when searing it, took longer to get to 125 internal temp. My Thermapen was reading much lower so I over-did it in the cast iron on the grill. Will probably try pork chops next. I like the short ribs idea but hard to believe cooking them for 72 hours is worth the effort. I would like to do a tri-tip perhaps. I'm also intrigued by perfectly poached eggs. And, there's always the perfectly done ribeye/NY Strip. Anyway, should be fun.

Related to the horns down ttu was doing yesterday after the game

Thanks. Had no idea. Wasn't a fan seeing Kody do that but now that I have context -- and we won the game -- this pleases me.

Listened to the Sam vs Sam trial. Let me say that both Sam’s are spare as shit and don’t belong on the Ticket, even in a ticker role. Jake being so butthurt about it was disappointing too.

I'm worried for The Ticket once the Musers and Rhynes decide to hang it up.

Wife (no pics) asked me what I wanted for Father’s Day.  Since she asked in front of the kids, I couldn’t be sexually explicit, so I went with ‘date night’ since we’ve been in baby jail the past few years.  She’s arranging babysitter, etc.

We like terrific steak and traditional high-end steakhouses.  We want to try a new one and are willing to travel out of the ‘burbs.  For reference, Bob’s in Grapevine is our favorite of the ~7 steakhouses in our immediate area, followed by JR’s.  When we were DINKs, we’d travel to Del Frisco’s Double Eagle in Addison.  We thought III Forks was terrible (letting people in for dinner wearing jorts?  Really?).  We abhor see-and-be-seen and trendy places.

I read the thread, but recs based on our tastes? I’m leaning towards Al Biernat’s North - the menu looks incredible.  Hell, the happy hour bar menu is almost more tempting than the dinner menu.

    TIA.

I've got a good friend who goes to the Al Biernat's North a lot and they're still working out some kinks. Personally, I'm come down to the original if you're going to do Al's. We are going to Town Hearth for the first time on Friday. It's supposed to be amazingly good.

baseball draft picks aren’t counted on for immediate impact of any kind.  not anywhere near the risk of a top 10 pick in the NFL.  the astros didn’t sign the top overall pick a few years ago and I don’t think it hurt them too much.

They didn't sign Brady Aiken, the #1 overall pick in 2014, and were awarded the #2 overall pick the following year in compensation. They drafted Alex Bregman with that pick. They've signed Murray, which means if he gets hurt and can't play there is no compensation.

Next year's 2nd would totally be worth it. We all know they'll revert back to the mean and draft an injured/risky player.

A third might do it the longer this goes. Seattle has no leverage at this point. Thomas is such a crazy and passionate guy, there's no point in fucking with him.

Agreed. Would love to get it for a 3rd but would go 2nd to make the deal happen.

watched Monday's episode last night.  Is the crying black dude faking his accent?  Also, ABC must be thrilled with the number to black dudes she's kept around.  usually it is cracker central by this point

I've never seen so many black dudes to start a season before. Maybe she checked that box on the questionnaire.

I think I could have guessed everyone on that list except Lefty Grove.  He used to lead the league in strikeouts every year in his prime, but it was at about a 6K/9IP rate.

Grove's numbers are incredible considering the high-octane offense in that era. He won the MVP in 1931 with a 2.06 ERA (lgAVG was 4.38). In 1936, his ERA was 2.81 (lgAVG was 5.04). An honest case could be made that Grove is the greatest pitcher MLB has ever seen.

That fact that I'm not sure if you are right or I am right tells you how indecipherable his sentences are.  Your word means clever and my word means being a phony.  The words are not even close in meaning and I can't tell you which one he was trying to say.

Maybe he was trying to say "ingenuous" and instead used "ingenuity" and he actually butchered the pronunciation (maybe "ingeninuity" or something like that) of the second.
