Not to belabor the point, but the data in the article isn't "between" 1992 and 2015.  It's just two years, 1992-93 and 2014-15.  Maybe there's an article that uses data in every year from 1992 to 2015, but I haven't seen it.  I'm not saying the ultimate conclusion is wrong, but the data used raises questions.

    US Population in 1992: 265,000,000

    US Population in 2014: 318,600,000

The actual quote in the article you posted is this:

So the rate of .15 per million isn't really "now" or over a time frame of the past few years.  It's comparing two school years, 1992-93 and 2014-15.

I'm not doubting the point Johnny Sack and the story he quotes are making, but would be interested to see the numbers over a longer time period in the 1990s v. recent past rather than picking two seemingly random years.

Yeah, those are two weird years to pick out. Was the article written in 2015? Lotta shit has happened since then.

I'd just argue that really the biggest difference between the "plain ol BBQ places" and the "boutique" is frequently more about time commitment than price.

Little Nicky will be permantly on a golf course somewhere by then..

Not sure which of his ex-padawans the bammers will target, but the best ones already have pretty good jobs they may not be willing to leave. Nobody wants to be the first to follow Saban at this point..

Yeah, I don't think Dabo ever goes back to Bama. He's got too good of a thing going at Clemson where he'll go down as their Bear Bryant if he can keep this current run going.

What's so annoying is those Western Carolina and Nicholls State type games come in the dead of November as basically a second bye week during conference season.  That's bullshit.

Call me a puritan, but unless it's something like Florida-FSU or Georgia-GaTech or S Car-Clemson or whatever, all your non con games need to be before conference, just like every other major men's sport (sans baseball season tuesdays)

It's bullshit is what it is. They do this so every single SEC team wins late in the season, which artificially pushes them past teams from other conferences losing conference games in the rankings. It also allows them to sell South Carolina-aggy as a matchup of Top 10 teams in the first week when everybody knows they're both going to finish 7-5 or so. The SEC has gamed the system extremely well.

  6. I guess I don't understand really. There's going to be a separate line if I'm not planning on eating my BBQ there? Is this only for those that pre-order, which is a 20-pound minimum and has to be done 14 days in advance?

  7. The Jared line was incredible. I liked the finale, I think.

Anyway, back to the character discussion I still love the Silicon Valley bro tech lawyer that crops up a couple of times per season. They haven't killed that one for me yet.

  8. Man, I still dig on a lot of 80's tunes by the Smiths, New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, Stone Roses (they barely slip in), The The and Talking Heads. There are many others. I was a very late-comer to Talking Heads in that I only discovered their true greatness in the last 4-5 years. Wall Street is a terrific time capsule of the 80's and the scene where "This Must Be the Place" is playing is just sublime. At any rate, this is perhaps my favorite Talking Heads' song from the 80's:

The On Demand shit is all fucked up.  Half the time I try to watch something, it says no programs available.  Seems to be a prevalent problem from what I've read.  Seems like it shouldn't be, though.

    Infuriating

  10. Still chasing Pulisic?

Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic is wanted by Liverpool this summer partly because the club’s owners are keen to bolster their American appeal.

Journalist Duncan Castles told The Transfer Window Podcast: “There’s a longstanding interest in Pulisic, a lot of it motivated by him being an American superstar and the commercial value involved with that.

“The owners have wanted a top-grade American in that team for a long time.

“And Pulisic was also promoted to Dortmund’s first team squad by Klopp - so there’s a direct link between the player and the coach there.

“When I last asked they were asking about a $70m (£50m) asking price, which has probably gone up since then.”

As a young professional, you quickly realize that the universe of young professionals in San Antonio is very, very small.  And it is peopled almost entirely with natives.  That leads to a certain provincialism.  I can't tell you how many parties I was at in San Antonio at which I was asked "so what high school did you go to?".  And if the answer wasn't "Alamo Heights," you weren't shit, and they let you know it.

This is 100% accurate. It's my experience that AH is more insular and snobbish than Highland Park IMO.

  12. Tia Sophia was pretty, pretty good. We also dug Madrid, which is along the Turquoise Trail -- one way to get to Santa Fe from Albuquerque. Just remember that most stuff in Madrid closes around sundown (at least during the week). We went to La Casa Sena one night and it was neat sitting out on the patio area. IIRC, there's a piano bar off to the side.
