  1. Speaking of rye, RIP to this one. Checked the laser code and it’s a damn 2016. It has some great caramel on the palate for a rye and will be missed.
  2. Batch 3 KO Rye is fine, but I’m not running out to buy it at $209. Maybe if I find it on sale at a twin for $150 or something. I have a Batch 1 open along with a spare so no real need for more. The batch 9 bourbon is also killer and would probably go for Stagg Jr secondary money of their retail pricing was similar.
  3. That’s a wild collection. Super into Maker’s picks?
  4. That’s basically just Kosher Buffalo Trace, right? I have the wheat recipe that I need to open and try next to W12 and Antique.
  5. Gold is so good, SFTB just makes me wish I was drinking Stagg Jr.
  6. Was it empty when you found it?
  7. I like it by itself but it will get smoked by their barrel strength and toasted rye in a side by side. This is still my greatest shelf find ever from last summer. Three ‘17 M10R sitting on a shelf at $159.99 each.
  8. Ha, you might live next to my friend in Austin. He got a cactus gray first edition and we did the Off Rodeo in Marble Falls after. I didn’t really want one before that and now I do.
  9. If it makes you feel any better III is better than II.
  10. I think they’re trying to woo me with fine whiskey. Not a bad strategy, really.
  11. I’ve been telling recruiters for roughly a decade that I’ll trade an interview/lunch for a bottle of Pappy 15. Never thought it would happen, but here we are.
  12. Exactly. What style label do you like on your Barton?
  13. How does it stack up with EH Taylor Rye?
  14. No way that’s out yet, it usually hits really late in Texas.
  15. Nailed it. I’ve poured quite a few great 12–25 yr bourbons in “honor” of my teenagers. Also, they won’t have any respect or appreciation for this kind of quality until they’re, like, 30 so this is probably a waste of time.
  16. Yeah, not sure I’d touch that for the price. Alamo City picks are pretty much always bangers so I went for it.
  17. Did you get a pick or a rando? I like the pick I got from Alamo City and I’m no sort of Dickel apologist. I also like the 11 Year Dickel BiB but hate most of the rest of their stuff.
  18. I drank about a 6 oz pour of Blanton’s on ice in a pool in Key West this week. No regerts.
  19. Haven’t had it, but had 14 and didn’t love it. I’d grab a 13 year single barrel for almost half the price. They batch Dickel in those Vault blends.
  20. Blanton’s wants to be Bowman SiB when it grows up.
  21. Here’s sorted by secondary: Old Rip Van Winkle Parker's Heritage 10 Year Heavy Char Old Forrester 150 Anniversary Elmer T Lee Michter's 10 yr Rye Michter's Toasted Weller 12 Elijah Craig 18 Four Roses OESO Blanton's OWA Hancock's President's Reserve
  22. Redemption Wheated, Elijah Craig store picks, Old Ezra 7, Dickel BiB 11 yr, John J Bowman SiB…..getting hit by a truck….Larceny.
  23. III > IV > II, never had I. Did you crack that Widow Jane 13 year yet? They all pale in comparison to that Spec’s single barrel.
  24. Alight, this wasn’t a tough decision and I’m at Belle Meade all the way. Noses are all pretty similar except U/U smells a bit grainy while the Redemption has a weird savory note to it and Belle Meade is all tobacco and oak. Palate, U/U a little hot and sweet, Redemption oakier and weirdly meaty, Belle Meade balanced with cola and tobacco. Finishes were all pretty similar except a little more oaky on the Redemption. The U/U is pretty clearly the youngest of the bunch and I can see why the early no-dash Belle Meade CSR bottles are pulling the most on secondary. I also poured a little Remus Repeal II at the end and would generally say you’re best off grabbing one of these for $77.99 at TW instead of chasing any of the bottles in the pic.
  25. Semi-blind tasting coming up between a 2018 shelf turd (batch 15 Belle Meade), the U/U hype machine and the easiest to find barrel strength MGP (Redemption 10 yr). Put your bets in now.
