CJ Vogel thoughts from 2026 visitors from Junior Day:

      Hide contents

While the focus of the Junior Day on Saturday was to get the ball truly moving in the 2025 class, the Longhorn staff hosted an impressive crop of 2026 prospects as well.

The weekend allowed for the Longhorns to get their 2026 class started with the commitment of Aledo RB Raycine Guillory Jr., though some of the top in-state prospects in the state for the class were able to meet with the Texas staff and see campus. A few updates on some important sophomores that were on campus:

    ***

A pair of Temple (TX) prospects made the trip down i35 for the Junior Day – DL Jamarion Carlton and DB Jason Bradford.

Bradford is a 6'2" defensive back with tremendous fluidity. I have watched him a few times in person in training sessions and each time he has been better than before. High upside with offers from Oklahoma State and Texas State.

The Temple staff is also very high on Jamarion Carlton as well. Five offers in the books already – Nebraska, UNT, SMU, Baylor and Houston.

    ***

Texas hosted 2026 Panther Creek WR Jalen Lott, formerly of Lovejoy. Lott spent plenty of time with Coach Steve Sarkisian on the visit with one-on-one time in his office. Jalen is the son of Texas Hall of Honor inductee James Lott for those unfamiliar. I think there is five-star potential here.

    ***

Another WR to be on notice for is 2026 San Marcos Henry Harris. The 6-foot-5 wide out from San Marcos plays like he is 6-feet tall. He is quick and can move very well. Add Harris to the offer watch list as the Longhorn staff continues out of the trail in the open window.

    ***

Texas has not offered a 2026 quarterback so far. Sarkisian is quite picky with his quarterback prospects and likes using the "We are only recruiting you" approach at the quarterback position.

Right now, Tampa (FL) QB Will Griffin is the one I am keeping my eyes on the closest for the 2026 QB picture. Griffin arrived Friday night and spent all of Saturday with the Texas staff, including Steve Sarkisian.

Griffin, a 6-foot-3 gunslinger, is the No. 4 quarterback in the class per 247Sports composite.

That is one rabid, roided up porcupine

Springtown copied Permian's use of MOJO sometime back in the late 80s, and decided to start using POJO (porcupine mojo) as their similar rallying cry. I didn't realize they'd named the mascot POJO nowadays.

Savea is a fine replacement for Trill Carter. I’d gladly take him.

There is no DT currently available that can come even close to replacing Murphy or Sweat. Maybe something happens in the Spring window, but that caliber of player at that position doesn’t come around very often in the portal.

So you're saying there are no DTs in the portal that are projected top 15 NFL Draft picks or Outland Trophy winners?

Perfect timing for Robinson to commit to Florida.

The Jaden Rashada saga somehow got worse for Florida.

Florida football's recruiting of quarterback Jaden Rashada remains one of the biggest debacles of the sport's NIL era. It also now has the Gators in the crosshairs of the NCAA.

ESPN reported Friday that Florida is under NCAA investigation due to its recruitment of Rashada, which saw the teenager decommit from the program after an NIL collective allegedly reneged on an eight-figure agreement in exchange for his commitment.

A contract obtained by the Athletic showed that the Gator Collective had promised Rashada up to $13.8 million, with $500,000 up front and six-figure payments every month as long as he remained with the school. The deal, which would have paid Rashada more than most NFL rookies make, required the player to fulfill only some minor obligations, such as autograph signings and social media posts.

If I'm reading this right, HOLY SHIT!

SI has largely been an AI-Generated, clickbait-y, content aggregator for the past several years. I'm surprised that they have any staff to fire, TBH

Or you have an opportunity to shore up positions on the roster that would have been question marks heading into the season

The talent on campus at these positions is young, unproven, or both.

Jabbar Muhammad would put us in position to cross train Brooks at the other db positions if needed. Having all that proven performance in the secondary and at WR makes it easier to evaluate the young guys there too.

I don’t think it’s necessarily concerns as much as the talent on campus is young and untested (I guess that’s just a pedantic argument over the word ‘concerns’) . Also WR/DB are the most loaded positions in the portal. Why not go out and get the best if you have the ability.

Sure, the talent on campus is young, but I had to assume they were at least 18, your honor.

This is why I'm not worried about losing Robinson.  I can't think of a recruit that had a great career somewhere else after backing out of an LOI at Texas.

Removed Davante Davis because I think he played all 4 years at Texas...Lampkin, while not from Florida, is the only other dude I can think of that got a release from his LOI.

Yeah, Davis stuck around. But I included him as part of the Florida Four.

D'antre who? I'm glad he is going to go home to hang around with other entitled 4 stars back home. Now, they can all play grab-ass on the bench for 4 years in Florida while our guys are being developed to win championships. Give me a roster of low rated guys who bleed orange and kneel at the Sark of the Covenant. We can go portal hunting for players from smaller schools that players that want to play ball, not be entitled drama queens. Good riddance.

    Did I do that right?

You forgot to compare him to Cecil Cherry, Davante Davis, Devonaire Clarington, and Gilbert Johnson.
