  1. Scruggs just said on 247 that 3 names he heard from a source are Carlos Locklyn (Ohio State), Chris Gilbert and Kiel McDonald (RB coach for the Chargers, was at USC and Utah before that)
  2. Did he like Drayton a bunch, or was he just making sure Bijan wasn't going anywhere during the coaching transition? I'll maintain my stance that we can do better than a guy who is only on the people's list because he coached here in the past.
  3. I think our sights are set a bit higher than a high school RB filling Choice’s spot on staff
  4. IT Inside Texas takes a quick look at some coaches who make sense to replace Tashard Choice as well as some who don’t. Makes sense Carlos Locklyn, Ohio State: There’s been some talk Locklyn was on the short list just weeks ago. If so then that’s probably still the case. He already has relationships with a number of top running backs in the country. He can also sell effectively having a platoon after the season the running backs at Ohio State just had. Khenon Hall, Baylor: IT is hearing Hall is as close to Tashard Choice 2.0 as you can get. “Everybody loves him,” one source said. He’s known as a great recruiter. Baylor had a 1000-yard rusher this season in Bryson Washington plus another back in Dawson Pendergrass that almost reached 700 yards. Plenty of experience in Texas, including at Texas Southern and SMU. He’s a South Oak Cliff grad. Kolby Smith, Arkansas: Has a good relationship with the notable Texas high school running backs this cycle. Played and coached in the NFL. Had a good platoon of runners this past season, including former Longhorn and former quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson. Much of his career, including his time as a college football player, has been spent with Bobby Petrino. Jabbar Juluke, Florida: Certainly not young but he’s Florida’s best recruiter, has the proverbial skins on the wall, and is about as good of a recruiter of Louisiana as you’ll find. Has relationships with top backs, including those in the Southeast United States. Has coached all over the country including at Louisiana Tech, LSU, Texas Tech, Louisiana, and Florida. Doesn’t make sense Ra’Shaad Samples, Oregon: Samples makes a lot of sense from the standpoint of being young, a good recruiter, and having Dallas ties, but Oregon would be unlikely to allow Texas to wallet whip him. Stan Drayton: The one-time Texas RBs coach doesn’t provide the value add you’re looking for at the position, young, energetic, volume recruiter. We’ll keep this list updated as we receive more intel.
  5. Considering the big raise Choice was about to it, I wonder if some college OC's could be in play if we are willing to pay the $750-$800k+ we were planning on paying Choice.
  6. No Samples No Drayton No Tosh Lupoi No Jerry Gray alright go
  7. Choice to the Lions, per IT.
  8. FCB got a quote from Choate on Orphey "Sharp, low-ego, high-output guy," Choate told Horns247 on Wednesday night in regards to Orphey. "Works at developing relationships with recruits and their parents. He'd taken chances to move his career forward. Great person, and I know he is happy to be back in Texas!"
  9. My favorite Jay Valai moment was when he was late to offer and failed to land Deuce Harmon in the 2021 class after being Harmon’s trainer several years earlier.
  10. Anwar reporting Mark Orphey from Rutgers will be the new safeties coach. Don’t see a tweet from him but he posted it on the site.
  11. The downgrade people aren't talking about enough is going from Max Weiner to Jason Kelly as pitching coach. So many guys took steps forward for them last year on the mound. It will be interesting to see how many regress.
  12. I would bet there are season ticket holders who haven't been to a game in years. It's funny they list the first Tuesday game of the year against Houston as a sellout and my guess is come first pitch, the stadium will maybe be 60-70% full pending weather.
  13. I was just listening to Schloss' interview yesterday on the LHN app, and he basically said they wouldn't be playing in this tournament if it wasn't already on the schedule when he arrived. Said he prefers to open the season at home. Also said he inherited a 2026 series at U of San Diego (return trip from when they came here last year) and the tournament at Minute Maid the third weekend of the season.
  14. A couple of 9.95ers have said Sean Miller indicated he would accept the job and was ready to make the jump. Then we kicked the crap out of his Xavier team in the Sweet 16 and the writing was on the wall.
  15. Even if, for some reason, we were open to this idea, why would he and his legal team desire to come back to work for the same people who fired him 2 years ago? Sark's past never included handcuffs, orange jumpsuits and police.
  16. Are we SEC ready? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Wade (I did just see his show cause runs through June of this year, which is not great)
  17. There are certain circumstances where promoting an assistant could make some sense. Maybe it is a hot shot young guy who is destined for bigger things if you don’t retain him (Marcus Freeman in football) or someone who has been on staff for a lengthy period of time and has been groomed as an obvious replacement for a coach getting older and close to retirement (UNC and Duke in basketball). Terry didn’t fit either of those descriptions and actually had a mediocre track record as a head coach, which makes it even worse because there is nothing to dream on.
  18. Nope. Been a fan of him for a while.
  19. Not a concern at all. So did Beard and McCasland until they got to big boy programs and adapted.
  20. It all runs together at this point. Ben McCollum will pull us out of this rut.
  21. One of Barnes last teams went 11-22
  22. Kaluma out for the rest of the game. Knee.
  23. My prediction for Friday: 1B Schuessler 3B Rodriguez SS Flores RF Belyeu CF Gasparino LF Winfield C Galvan DH Chamberlain (Borba if facing a LHP) 2B Mendoza SP Spencer That has us alternating right-left all the way through the order, which I think Schloss would like. Rodriguez batted second in the Alumni game so I'll assume they are comfortable with him up there in the order.
  24. Orphey was Jeff Choate's DB coach at Montana State, which is a connection I found interesting outside of him being a Houston area guy.
  25. That is one of the biggest collapses I’ve ever seen. LSU is so damn bad.
